The Daughter-In-Law's Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know about Relating to Your Mother-In-L

The Daughter-In-Law's Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know about Relating to Your Mother-In-LawI couldn't wait to receive this book in the mail. Finally a professional approach to a chronic world-wide issue! Well, I was disappointed. Tons of 'testimonies,' tons of support but alas no advice. Nothing most daughters-in-law don't already know anyway.

For example, one of the main reasons I bought the book was because it touched on unsupportive husbands. However, what does it say about unsupportive husbands? That they should support their wives. That's it, period amen. No advice for those whose husbands refuse. No alternative suggestions.

I'll tell you what, I know exactly the same thing I knew before I purchased the book. If you're a professional and can offer sound advice and suggestions, please do us a favor and write a book or something. You'll hit the jackpot...gauranteed.

Due to the fact that it was a new title, and therefore more likely to be up to date with todays issues between DIL & MIL, I was really hoping that this book would offer practical advice on how to cope with, understand and approach my emotionally demanding mother in law. Unfortunately, this book did not offer such advice. There were plenty of stories from other daughters-in-law which did offer some consolation, making me feel less 'alone' in my struggle, but I was really looking for ways to help me 'breath through' or 'confront' the problems that I am experiencing with my Husbands mother.

This book would be fine if you just want to hear other womens venting, but thats about it.

I'll admit I was skeptical when I started this book. NOTHING could help me with my mother-in-law problems! Well, this book really did! Other's stories were a comfort and helped illustrate the various pitfalls in the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship. The questionaires at the end of each chapter helped me (and my husband) sort out our feelings and pinpoint exactly what was causing the friction. These conversations are so easy to avoid, but the advice in this book helped me prepare for and be comfortable with talking things out. It also helped me deal with problems that have no easy fix. I would recommend it to anyone who has Mother-in-law trouble and I'd buy it for all newlyweds--before the problems start!

I'm a newlywed and currently have my "monster-in-law" living with us. Before she moved in, we were the best of friends but things drastically changed and I can't even manage to be in the same room as her! I'm desperatly seeking some kind of advice and there are no books out there that relate to my situation. I'm only 24 years old and have no kids, so it seems there aren't any people out there that can relate or there just isn't anyone who has written about it yet. This book is the closest I can get. Although it is a great read and has wonderful advice, about 80% of the information I can't relate to. I highly recommend this book but it's not for me.

The Gerson Therapy: The Proven Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other Illnesses

The Gerson Therapy: The Proven Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other IllnessesA Highly Recommended First Book On The Use And Application Of Alternative Medicine/Natural Healing for Chronic Conditions.

This is the book that I would first recommend for anyone wanting to understand the use of alternative medicine for the healing of any chronic condition including cancer I would also highly recommend this book to anyone contemplating the use of conventional medicine as well because of the excellent material on the disease process and the potential for using this or some other alternative therapy in a complimentary or combination process of natural and conventional healing. The issue in addressing healing of chronic diseases is for the person with the disease and their family to be sufficiently unformed of the causes and all possible treatment possibilities so that they can make informed and responsible decisions about their total treatment. Other therapies and approaches could be evaluated as to how well they addressed all of the healing concepts detailed in this book.

"The Gerson Therapy" is a welcome and highly recommended addition to the multitude of books that address healing of chronic conditions including cancer by using natural or alternative means. The specific approach is healing by a combination of high quality nutrition and total body detoxification. The Therapy is a total program and does require significant life style changes at least for the detailed therapy. Actually, lifetime lifestyle changes will be required to remain healthy, but these are easily done once one has gone through the detailed therapy.

This book accomplishes several needed functions. The Gerson Therapy is brought up to date, (the therapy is over 60 years old), with the latest information including program modifications for people who have had chemotherapy, for people who are in an extremely weakened state, and a modified program for non cancer chronic conditions. The information is provided in a highly readable and understandable format. The book details the background, theory, and enough specific cases to establish credibility without being overbearing. In fact most of the case studies are used to detail understanding of the therapy. The book does not sugar coat the difficulty of healing using natural therapy and states that the Gerson Therapy may be the most difficult to follow of the many that are available. All of the information required to do the therapy either on one's own or in conjunction with a qualified clinic or practitioner is provided in easily accessible section. (There is some redundancy in some of the specific sections but this redundancy eliminates the need to search for needed information for people who are following the therapy). The number of recipes is expanded from previous books, and this is a welcome addition for anyone who has followed the therapy. The mental aspects of natural healing are now addressed and are given a separate section in the book. Finally, many tricks and techniques needed to make the therapy more workable are included. The bottom line is that the book is both informative and is useable as a day to day guide for anyone deciding to do the therapy.

I feel qualified to make these statements about this book because three years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and after much research and discussions with conventional and alternative practitioners, I chose to first start with the Gerson Therapy. The results have been wonderful with the cancer having gone in remission after about 18 months and numerous other problems have responded to the therapy as well. I have not had to revert to my back up plan of conventional medicine. Yes the therapy can be difficult to follow particularly because it is highly restrictive on food, requires time to make fresh vegetable juices several times every day, and requires time to do the detoxification procedures. And yes, the diet has different taste due to the salt and fat restrictions, but one quickly get use to the different tasee However, to be healed without permanent side effects is well worth the effort and the required life style changes. While I had excellent support materials available, this book is still a significant improvement to the available literature. I found nothing in this book that I had a problem with and with the improvements that have been made, the book deserves the five star rating

The process of natural healing is not easy, requires attention to detail, and continued study to avoid setbacks through the process. This new book on the Gerson Therapy will provide information that can assist the decision process and will provide up to date information on the therapy's application.

The Gerson Therapy saved my life.

I was diagnosed with SLE ( Lupus), and there was nothing that the M.D.'s could offer me, except Prednisone...which was urged upon me.

Through the fortunate advice of a friend, I read the Gerson book...and to make a very long story short, I decided to do the program.

Let me just say here, in rebuttal to the first reviewer of this book, that NOWHERE in this book does it suggest that on should JUST do coffe enemas. Quite the contrary. If one is doing coffee enemas, it is essential that one ALSO be drinking the juices.

In fact, if one is serious about getting well, it is absolutely essential that one do the program to the letternot just some elements.

I stayed on the Gerson program for two and one half years. Hard? Yes.

But I came out of it healed.

I went into the program so very sick, hair falling out, skin sores, terrible joint pain, failing kidneys.

That was more than fifteen years ago , now, with no recurrance. And I neved did take the Prednisone.

I did the Therapy at home, with the Gerson book as my guide. ( The Gerson staff, in terms of support and more information, were my telephone angels.)

So, while my experience was not with cancer, I most certainly will recommend this book to those who suffer from auto-immune disorders, and also to those those who simply are interested in knowing how bertter to preserve and restore health.

Buy The Gerson Therapy: The Proven Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other Illnesses Now

Much like the previous poster, I also suffered a degenerative disease. I did the research for a cure while healing from some conventional radiation therapy. I began the Gerson Therapy (GT)as indicated in this book in part, started feeling stronger and got into it full tilt. I must admit, Dr. Max Gerson MD, the author's father, hit the nail on the head in terms of a curative therapy. His is some heirloom information and techniques that have survived because they work.

If you need to buy a book on how to get well from degenerative disease, this is the first choice. Get started now. Begin now. Disease as simple as arthritis, and as tough as cancer respond to this therapy. I know from personal experience also. The program is nutritional and detoxification with minimum supplements. The book informs as to what and why and when to use what. They do not sell vitamins, or expensive publications, just straight forward truth.

I also, particularily for Multiple Myeloma or Plasmacytoma patients, but cancer patients generally, highly recommend the book, 'Living Proof', by Michael Gearin-Tosh, published 2002. It is a wonderful narrative of how to approach cancer treatment written by a man diagnosed MM but who did Gerson Therapy and lives.

Do it, get well, and write your own review ! I'll be checking back from time to time. God Bless.

An indispensable aid for those wishing to use the highest cure rate therapy for cancer yet devised. The incredible cures for many degenerative diseases wrought by slight variations of this program are also described in this book. With the recent opening of a Gerson Therapy center in Hawaii, and with the Baja Nutri Care facility in Las Playas de Tijuana, Mexico, what's not to love about this amazing chance to survive the deadly big "C"? With a cure rate under 10% in America, why not go with the Gerson Therapy, with almost ten times the cure rate? This book is logical, orderly, and well thought out. It is not "easy reading," but it is certainly essential reading for our day. The present rate for cancer is five of every twelve alive today. Doctors are already predicting that the rate will increase yet again. Be prepared. Know how to prevent cancer, not just cure it.

Update 12-15-2006. My wife began the Gerson Therapy for stage 4A Malignant Melanoma in October 2005. She is quite healthy today and her cancer markers are perfectly normal according to her monthly blood work. She has at least 10 months remaining to stay on the full Gerson Therapy. She has already out-survived 7 out of 10 patients with her diagnosis from the same start date who were or are undergoing "conventional" medical treatment. Conventional treatment odds for her five year survival are 1 in 200. Gerson Therapy gives her 80 chances out of the same 200. Yes, there are other therapies out there, but it is a minefield that can kill you if you land on the wrong therapy. The Gerson Therapy has about a 75 year history of great overall success. It is definitely not 100% though. Check the history of whatever others you are looking at. But whatever you do, remember that your health decisions are in your hands alone and that your life is a precious thing. Don't let anyone scare you into wasting it.

Were I so unfortunate as to find myself with a cancer, this is the only program I would follow. Forty years ago my prognosis was a life expectancy of maybe 3 months -if I was lucky. Arteriosclerosis was then considered by medical doctors as irreversible, yet here I am, 40 years later, because someone pointed me in a different direction, one very similar to Gerson's. I bought several copies since you run into the incurable all the time. We live in a sick society -in more ways than one.

Rescue Your Nails

Rescue Your NailsMany women can relate to Ji Baek's childhood desire to have bright shiny nails. She remembers "....begging for little pearly seashell pink dots of nail polish on my tiny, tiny nails, but the response was always a firm no."

After all, she grew up in South Korea in the 1970s under the guidance of a very traditional mother who wanted Ji to become a concert pianist, and definitely believed that nail polish "was only for trashy little girls."

It's been a long road from there to here for Ji . Here is now New York City where in 1998 she founded that city's premier nail spa, Rescue Beauty Lounge. Her accolades are numerous she's been called "Queen of the manhattan manicure" by Vogue's Beauty Director, the "nail guru" by the Beauty Director of Vanity Fair, and a woman with "straight-talk, charm, and uncompromising standards" by W's Beauty Director.

After reading Ji's "Rescue Your Nails, " I join her list of devotees. For many years I've been doing home manicures, saving salon manicures and pedicures for very special occasions. To me, my nails looked fine Thanks to Ji they look oh-so-much better!

Her book is an easy to follow, very practical guide to nail care. She opens by introducing the ABC's her ten rules of nail care, and explaining how much our nails reveal about who we are. (Try it next time you're out and about take a look at people's nails, both men and women, and see what you discover.) She gives us the straight scoop on fake nails, and lists the necessities for doing at home manicures and pedicures.

One of my favorite pre-pedicure treatments is her orange-mint soak, "one of the best parts of stiletto rehab." She also offers tips on reviving a manicure, and even instructions on how to file (Confession: I've just been sawing away!). It really does make a difference if you use long slow strokes and not short choppy ones.

Full-color photos and step-by-step instructions show how to do a professional at-home manicure and pedicure. Plus Ji makes each easy, fun, and relaxing.

I have a problem with raggedy cuticles all year long and when it's spring (sandal time), I feel like my feet still need to stay in hybernation. I saw this book at Barnes and Nobles and had to buy it. Ji, the author, provides a list of everything you need to do a self manicure and pedicure, as well as, clear and easy instructions. She also tells you how to improve the condition of your nails and cuticles. There are plenty of well taken photographs showing recommended tools, techniques and results. I have other "beauty" type books but none of them go into the detail this book does on improving the look of your nails.

Buy Rescue Your Nails Now

I picked up this book at my local Borders store and, after skimming through it, I became instantly hooked at the way it engages the reader in the complex topic of self-achievement of the perfect manicure and pedicure. I have always been a fan of doing my own nails and hardly ever visit a salon; however, I had never achieved such wonderfully clean and professional results until now. With glossy photographs and an easy to read layout, nail expert Ji Baek has given us the "secret" to always having the most glamorous-looking hands and feet.

Originally from South Korea, Baek was a musician who eventually got a condition in her fingers which precluded her to continue playing. It was then when she launched herself into research for her dream of becoming a "nail stylist" (of sorts). She runs the "Rescue Beauty Lounge" store in New York City, and has her own brand of nail polish, bath line and tools. Thanks to the step by step instructions, which are accompanied by excellent graphics and photos, one can finally say good-bye to the days of ugly looking hands and feet, as Ms. Baek's new book, "Rescue your nails" is the surefire ticket to fantastic, self-made manicures and pedicures. Throughout it, there are discussions on color theory, tools of the trade (including a very practical shopping list), suggestions and considerations for choosing a nail spa, as well as Ji's very own, proven program for NBA (Nail Biters Anonymous).

A few things that I picked up from the book go from Baek's insistence in sterilization of the tools after each use, even when the usage has been at our own home the idea made me run to my own manicure-pedicure kit and sterilize it right then and there (something, I'm ashamed to say, I had never done before); to the attention to detail and thought behind every color of nail polish in her line, with one in particular called "Underwear", that instantly caught my attention and cannot wait to try a neon white which can be worn alone or underneath other colors to "spark" their brilliance in a unique way.

As I get familiar with performing all the right steps to perfect manicures and pedicures at home, I am keeping the book next to my kit in the bathroom, since I do not want to miss any steps when performing them. The author claims in the cover that she can save the reader up to $1,080 per year in nail care. I have tried the techniques and they feel and look extremely professional. As for the savings, well... it is just an added bonus.

I can see how this would be a little beginner-leveled for the experienced manicurist; however, I am certainly a beginner in sophisticated nail care. The book gives nice simple instructions on taking care of your nails, pictures of nail shapes, some recipes for spa-like treatments, etc. I don't agree with everything the author insists on either, but I also don't think that matters. As important as she thinks lotion is everyday, I really wanted to just learn more about how to trim my nails and the area around them in a healthy way and I feel she does a good job with that. If you can't get past the opinionated stuff or you're looking for something more masterful, you might get frustrated, but if you're just looking for some simple guidelines I think this is a great book.

****

This book is chock full of basic information about manicures and pedicures, covering everything you'd need to know just starting out (for example, if you were a teen). It is also good for older people like myself who haven't taken care of their nails for decades and now want to start doing so. This is very basic information here, but I needed it, especially for information about how to care for my cuticles, how to pick a shape when filing your nails, and how to deal with problems.

The book also covers taking care of your hands and feet, troubleshooting nail problems, nail biting, and finding a professional nail salon that is safe. It is a quick and easy read. The information probably is on the Internet, but it was great having everything all in one place. There are lots of illustrations and the book is a quick read and a good reference too.

Recommended for beginners to nail care.

The Radical Reformission: Reaching Out without Selling Out

The Radical Reformission: Reaching Out without Selling OutThis is one of the most refreshing and engaging books on church/culture that I've read, and is probably THE best book I've read from a leader in the emerging church.

Driscoll contends that as believers we must be concerned about three things: the gospel, the church, and the culture. When we neglect one of these three elements, we fall into one of three errors:

The Church + The Culture The Gospel = Liberalism

The Church + The Gospel The Culture = Fundamentalism

The Gospel + The Culture The Church = Parachurch

I think this is slightly reductionistic, but it still provokes reflection. Driscoll's book is a plea for the church to be faithful to the gospel within the culture not by isolating itself from the culture. He says, of course, that faithfulness to the gospel involves some measure of separation. As Christians, we are different called out of darkness into light and this will affect our life-styles and ethics. But Driscoll also contends that Christian liberty must be maintained in areas where Scripture is silent and that our liberty should be used for the sake of reaching culture.

Of course, culture looks different in Seattle than it does in the Midwest, where I minister. Driscoll's church looks different than ours, with lots of tattooed, pierced, young Christians decked out in Gothic clothing and make-up! But Driscoll rightly argues that becoming a Christian doesn't necessitate a conversion to wearing business attire (like a middle-class, white suburban American Christian), but rather a conversion to Christ and His kingdom. As I said, this is a thought-provoking book.

Be warned, however: reading this book will probably provoke a variety of deep and intense emotional responses, including laughter (Driscoll is hilarious), shock (Driscoll breaks all the conventions that you would expect of a Christian author), and (hopefully) excitement, as you hear of what God has done in his life and through his life and ministry in the lives of others.

Started attending Mars Hill Church, where Mark Discoll is the head teaching elder, a little over a year ago. Only very serious problems can keep us away on Sunday. I'm twice the age of the average member/attendee, but Mark preaches old time religion applied to today's culture and I and about 2,500 others seem very comfortable with both. Mark is very real, sometimes shocking and shows real grace. Week after week my wife and I ask each other "Is that the best sermon we've ever heard AGAIN?"

What you get in RR is what I see happening at Mars Hill, along with Mark's humor and wisdom that's beyond his years. I've been a believer for 35 years and I'm as excited about Jesus as I've ever been and due in no small part to the vision you read about in this book. Would I feel the same way if I wasn't watching Mark practice what he preaches up close and personal? Maybe not, but when I read it, I could honestly say I saw RR being worked out and it's authentic.

Read RR, log on to the MHC web site, stream the sermons, praise God and have a blast.

Driscoll's sense of humor is rather twisted. His willingness to say aloud what others forbid themselves to even think is refreshing. His views are thought provoking. His concepts in practice are enlightening. Some people "will" find parts of Radical Reformission offensive. My parents were offended by the copy I gave them. But they are now buying more copies and recommending it to everyone. RR will show you how to use your freedom to set others free. Thank you Jesus for Pastor Driscoll.

Mark Driscoll's work on living on the balance of syncretism/sectarianism is critical to the church as we struggle between moralism and 'selling out'. His work has had a profound impact on his church and church pastors across the country. This book is a must read whether you are an 'emerging' pastor or if you have been in the ministry for decades. I pray it is a wake up call to a radical but necessary place of tension.

Want The Radical Reformission: Reaching Out without Selling Out Discount?

Mark Driscoll wrote this book so that Christians will step out of our comfort zones and share the gospel with those outside our front door. Radical Reformission is "a radical call for Christians and Christian churches to recommit to living and speaking the gospel, and to do so regardless of the pressures to compromise the truth of the gospel or to conceal its power within the safety of the church" (pg 20) We Christians must repent of our lack of love for our fellow man when we have failed to share the truth of the Gospel just because people do not match our cultural preference. For this, I heartily appreciate and agree. However, I must say that I also have some concerns.

Some of Driscoll's helpful insights:

We Christians should be "building friendships for the purpose of showing and sharing the love of Jesus with lost people...evangelism is done by the whole church." (pg 66)

We Christians must repent of self-righteousness and cling to God's "power of the gospel of grace." (pg 77-78) We must be clear that we do not "impose man made rules in the name of achieving holiness", which is in effect Pharisaical (pg 140).

We Christians must be careful and attentive to our "church cultures" (pg 101). We must recognize that we may have "different personal convictions that are not necessarily sinful" according to biblical prescription (pg 103).

Like Jonah and the plant, we Christians cans love THINGS that God has provided "more than our great cities and the spiritually blind people who annoy us." (pg 106)

Addressing the need for heart transformation (versus mere behavioral change), Driscoll says, "...if we aspire to seek any change in our culture, we must resist the temptation to first change the culture. Instead, we Christians must begin by bringing the gospel to people so that they can be given a new heart out of which a Christian life flows. As more people live out of their new heart, new families, churches, businesses, and governments will result that together will transform culture." (pg 110)

For us Christians, "...too often the evangelistic task of speaking about Jesus is promoted as a work or something we must do, rather than as an overflowing of joy within us that explodes out of us because we have met God in Christ." (pg 143)

Finally, Driscoll provides a short but very helpful list of Biblical Principles for Cultural Decision making (pg 104). I would prefer to have seen an exposition and "fleshing out" of these texts instead of some of the extraneous stories that seem to serve as shock effect.

Some of my concerns on this work:

1.) Is it necessary that the Gospel must be "contextualized" to make it "accessible"? (pg 55-56) The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for both Jews and Greeks (Rom 1:16-17). In our sinful flesh, we Christians can so easily replace the power of the Gospel message itself with culturally-attractive gimmicks. "Do you dig Jesus?" is no replacement for explaining a sinner's dire predicament before a holy God and His provision in Jesus Christ's substitutionary atonement.

2.) To what degree do we immerse ourselves into culture to faithfully share the gospel? Is it necessary or advisable to listen to a "sexual talk program" or read "Cosmo Girl magazine" (pg 131) to successfully engage the culture with the gospel? Can we cross the line and speak in an inappropriate manner according to Scriptural standards in order to capture the attention of culture? The subtitle of this book is "reaching out without selling out." One way that we can "sell out" is by substituting the priority of Scriptural faithfulness with a desire to be culturally relevant. In one portion of the book, Driscoll appropriately chides churches that try to appease the preferences of different age groups. He makes the valid observation that people are highly complex and cannot be pinned down as a monolith according to particular age generalizations (pg 128). I would argue that we should extend Driscoll's conclusions to culture-at-large. Culture is complex and always changing and is, thus, a "moving target." I would argue that a Christian should engage but NOT be consumed with riding "the next wave of culture." Instead, the Christian's focus should be on Jesus Christ and His all-sufficient word which are always relevant.

The Teenage Body Book

The Teenage Body BookThis book is incredible! I am 40 years old and know this book quite well. As a pre-teen, this book was a gift from my best friend's mom. I learned many things through this book that my mom had a hard time explaining. This book made it easy for me to explain topics to my own daughter (who is now 21) and who felt freely to talk to me about any subject, and still does. This book I passed to my daughter who remembers reading it as a pre-teen. We reference things in the book today since i have a step-daughter who is a pre-teen. I will now purchase a book for her very own. To the moms out there, do yourself and your child a favor and purchase this book. It is a great reference for the both of you.

I purchased this book for my nephew so that he would gain an understanding of the pysical and emotional changes he would be going through. The material was presented in a tactful, educational, yet interesting to a teen boy manner. I just asked my nephew if we should pass this book to his newly 13 year old nephew and he said "yes!"

She was right to trust this book to help answer the many questions I had as a teenager. I remember my friends sleeping over and how we would pour over the information in this book. The Diabetes Miracle: 3 Simple Steps to Prevent and Control Diabetes and Regain Your Health . . . Pe

The Diabetes Miracle: 3 Simple Steps to Prevent and Control Diabetes and Regain Your Health . . . PermanentlyMy husband and I just started the Diabetes Miracle diet. I'm pre-diabetic and my husband is diabetic. We were rather skeptical at first but decided to give it a run. The induction phase takes a little getting use to, but after being on it for about 3 weeks, I've seen a 7 pound drop and my husband has seen a 10 pound drops. However, we both know the weight loss will be slower because we are correcting a problem from the inside out. However, I checked my blood sugar two hours after eating and was surprised that I was sitting at 98Normal. My husband, has all the earmarkers with the diabetes, his blood pressure is coming down, to levels he has not seen in 10 years, and he checked his blood sugar 2 hours after eating and found that his blood sugar was sitting at 102, when the lowest it has ever been in the past, was 130.

I'm hoping that it will move my high cholesterol numbers down to normal levels. From what the book says, if you have high cholesterol, high trig numbers, and/or high blood sugar numbers, the weight will not fly off until the diet cleans up the blood. I can wait, if it does improve my numbers. We will see.

With what I am currently seeing, I have a feeling I've chose the right book to correct my metabolism problem. With the results that we are currently seeing, my sister-in-law is now trying the diet.

Diane Kress is a Registered Dietician and author of the best selling book "The Metabolism Miracle". She has over thirty years of hands on experience working with diabetes, metabolism and weight disorders. She shares her knowledge and experience in her new book, "The Diabetes Miracle".

The 352 page book covers step by step what you need to do if you are prediabetic, or have type 2 diabetes. The book begins with an overview of the issue. Diabetes is rampant in the US, with millions of Americans having the disease or on the road to getting it. It is not only common but growing. According to Kress, the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) predicts that one in three adults may have diabetes by the year 2050. These means millions of Americans are at greater risk for stroke, blindness, excess weight and other health problems as a result of the disease.

But what to do about it? In the book Kress shares how to prevent type 2 diabetes if you are on that path. And how to manage type 2 diabetes if you already have it. She promotes a 3 step diet plan, exercise and supplements to regain health. If you are taking medication, by following the plan and working with your physician, it is possible that you may be able to eliminate the need for medication or cut back.

Diane's writing style is very clear and she is able to share detailed medical information, in an easy to read way. You are left with a better understanding of the disease and how it works and you are given a clear concise action plan.

The diet is a 3 step plan designed to normalize the blood sugar, put the body in fat burning mode and more. In Step 1, you detox with an 8 week "boot camp". Here you will eat a lo carb (not no carb) diet. You will eat tons of veggies, good protein and healthy fats through out the day. In Step 2, you introduce more carbs in a methodical way to keep control of the blood sugar. Step 3 is maintenance mode. In Step 3, you enjoy a greater range of carbs. This is the plan you will follow as a lifestyle plan.

The diet plan includes drinking water, taking supplements, and exercise. Exercise is a great way to keep blood sugar on an even keel and Diane, shares how to do it for the best effect.

In addition to following the plan, Diane shares how the right attitude and managing stress are important facets to a well rounded plan for managing this disease.

The book is truly outstanding. Diane has experienced amazing results with her clients who follow her plan. Now you can share in this knowledge and potentially enjoy renewed health and vitality. If you,a loved one, or someone you know have diabetes, this can be a game changer!

I first discovered this diet, which now is really a lifestyle of choice, through Metabolism Miracle. I started the "diet" the same day I downloaded it on my Kindle. Within days I had downloaded the Cookbook. I have lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks. I have lost many more inches. Dropping 3 pant sizes. The bases is MM but Diane as had a few rewrites and it is easier and clearer to understand. I would suggest buying this book as it explains more and gives you insight into pre-diabetics. You will definitely garner more information. If you are a diabetic, pre-diabetic or non diabetic you will find answers to your questions. The diet is the same in all three books. Each book is a little more refined. In her latest book Diane explains the "diet" a little more, gives you more information on exercise, blood test, diabetes and how to prevent it. I would recommend buying the cookbook. I would not recommend buying them on your Kindle. There are charts which you can't really download and print. I have ending buying hardback copies too. If you crave carbs are addicted to sugar this book and help you get control of your life. It is not like South Beach or Adkins. You will eat carbs again and not gain back the weight!

ONE YEAR LATER!!!!!

Still eating this way pants have gone from a size 16 to a size 8. Tops from XXL to L/M. Couldn't have been happier

"The Diabetes Miracle" is such a fabulous book that it deserved my first book review ever. It is not just for diabetics, but for anyone overweight who wants to become more healthy. It changed many of my longstanding beliefs that eating lots of whole grain foods and avoiding fats was healthy. That's backwards. As a retired engineer I was able to confirm via blood tests virtually everything Diane Kress has written about the bad effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar, the existence of the liver's glycogen cycle and the necessity of eating at least one "carb serving" every 4 hours or less. No doctor has ever told me to eat before bed for a fasting blood test in the morning, yet that was just the first of the revelations in this book.

It was a non 8-hour fast that falsely indicated a severe prediabetic condition for myself and got me started on an aggressive 1200 calorie diet, on which I lost 2 pounds a week for ten weeks. Then I discovered her book, began timing my meals, restricting carbohydrates and increasing the fiber/protein/vegetable fats in my diet, as she advises. I lost more like 3 pounds a week on the same caloric input. Blood sugar levels became almost flat with a little exercise an hour or so after eating meals with overall fiber grams equal to about 25% of carbohydrate grams. That is an improvement on the 2 grams fiber out of 11-20 grams of carbohydrate that she advises. I am now eating breakfast, brunch, late lunch, dinner, late dessert and bedtime snack while continuing to lose weight and feel great. One thing I found and something she does not mention is that under such aggressive dieting the liver glycogen cycles become shorter to the point where I could no longer fast (or sleep or delay eating breakfast) for longer than 7 hours overnight before my liver began its second overnight increase of my blood sugar levels. I had been able to sleep for up to 9 hours before I began restricting carbohydrates. I was "forced" to raise calories to above 1500 per day to get back to being able to fast for eight hours overnight. Her book does not mention calories much at all just to eat high fiber foods from a list she provides until feeling full. I could have used some guidance on recommended caloric input when hunger no longer exists as motivation. I also found that some of the snacks suggested to reset the liver glycogen clock, such as a cup of strawberries or half a banana actually had inadequate carbohydrate grams to do the job under aggressive dieting. An orange or apple or whole banana has always worked, however.

Another thing she writes is that some blood pressure medications increase blood sugar levels. That was dramatic in my case. Elimination of a diuretic as my blood pressure fell, caused my blood sugar levels to drop 10-15% over a week as my blood pressure climbed a similar amount, while remaining acceptable. Suddenly my fasting blood sugar was 15% below the threshold for prediabetes she mentions, after being marginal for weeks. Simultaneously I appeared to stop losing 3 three pounds a week for a week, apparently retaining about 3 pounds of water and simply diluting my blood and blood sugar concentration by 15%. I am not impressed with any medical approach that prescribes a diuretic to reduce blood pressure at the expense of increasing blood sugar concentrations and vice-verso. Both conditions are bad. Nor am I impressed with any blood sugar level indicators that fail to account for blood dilution or lack thereof in determining whether or not one has prediabetes or diabetes.

I am very impressed with her book, however. It is full of assertions, that I feel I have proven to be correct, that everyone should learn for the good of their health. I recommend it to everyone who remarks about my dramatic weight loss, that I now know how to attain and maintain.

Twelve Month Update 2/2013: Twelve months after being pronounced prediabetic and having an A1c of 6.5% actually in the diabetic range I have now had two completely normal six month blood test checkups with A1c tests of of 5.6% and 5.5%, including normal LDL, HDL and triglycerides. I have not taken cholesterol/triglyceride medications for seven months; I no longer need to test my blood sugar; I have lost about 70 pounds and have maintained that weight for three months now. My weight and BMI is now within the "normal" range. I wear medium shirts instead of XL. I owe it all to Diane Kress's advice in this book. While I never did her Phase 1 diet because I discovered her book only after already starving to lose significant weight, out of fear of diabetes, I continue to largely follow her Phase 2 diet. I still eat six times a day with each meal containing about 15 net grams of carbohydrates, supplemented with greater calories from healthy fats and proteins. While I have given up milk, juices, cereals, potato, pasta, rice, pastries and most bread, I do not feel hungry or deprived in any way. I have increased consumption of vegetables, greens, nuts, seeds, yogurt, lean meats, eggs, low carb wraps & pitas, bananas, berries, apples, olives, butter and soft cheeses. I have learned that if one does the exact opposite of those decades of USDA high carb/low fat diet recommendations, one will be healthy. Thank you Diane Kress!

For full disclosure, I've only read half of the book so far, but I can tell that this book is different from other diabedes and diet books i've read. It is really explained well. I regret no doctor had the time to propertly explain things like this. My experience with doctors has been "here's your last test results, take these pills, see you in a month for a retest". The part that really touched me the most in this book was when the author described the pattern most people are on, which is to take a bunch of pills, and eventually almost everyone ends up on insulin shots, then dies. And that is exactly how I felt I was heading until I started reading this book. I finally understand how sugar works, and what insulin is, and about metabolism, etc. I really believe after Step 1, of eight weeks, I will see real improvement, and hopefully may not need to take as much medication. And it's written every honestly, like the part where if someone deviates from the very important and somewhat difficult Step 1, you have to allow adding another 3 days to Step 1 for every mess up. I don't want to go beyond 8 weeks for Step 1, and I appreciated the way she wrote it and explained it. I look forward to finishing the rest of the book shortly and getting on the plan right away. Good luck!
