I would recommend this to a parent/teacher or therapist who is working with autistic children/teens.I LOVE this book! I am a yoga teacher interested in teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I think I highlighted most of this book, that is how informative and useful it was. Awesome for parents too.Great Learning tool for a Youth Yoga Teachers. My wife is a Yoga Teacher and wants to help Children cope with Life. She is very happyI do not feel that this book offers enough guidance to form an effective program that would meet the needs of individual children. The author feels that the program that she has developed for her child is helpful and I have no reason to think that this is not true for her child.
The Posture Prescription: The Doctor's Rx for: Eliminating Back, Muscle, and Joint Pain; Achieving O

The exercises are pretty basic and very easy to do and I'm not sure they would help everybody but they sure helped me. I highly recommend this book. Even if it doesn't work for you, I think it's well worth $10 to find out. This book gave me the great idea to work/read while standing up the top of my dresser is just the right height for that & I'm surprised at how easy and comfortable it is. The premise of the book is that exercise can be incorporated into your everyday routine, once you develop certain habits, and does not have to involve a big disruptive trip to the gym.
I got this book because my posture leaves something to be desired much of the time & I know that this was a contributing factor to my getting a serious, debilitating repetitive strain injury. However, I was surprised to see that this book is geared especially towards people with back problems since this is not indicated in the title.
I only have mild back problems, but in my research I learned about a book that many people consider to be a miracle for severe back pain and that is John Sarno's THE MINDBODY PRESCRIPTION. Another book, the one which saved me from my repetitive strain injury, is also said to resolve different forms of back pain and that is Clair Davie's THE TRIGGER POINT THERAPY WORKBOOK.
Both of these books offer radical (though quite different) paradigms that people with back problems claim to have been tremendously helped by. (Though I warn you John Sarno's theories are pretty hard to believe at first and I wouldn't have taken them seriously were it not for the testimonies of many many people). As far as trigger points go, you can also take a look at the "theracane" website to learn more or just do a general search on the internet.
In any case, fixing posture & maintaining spinal health is essential to well-being and should be a critical part of any healing or preventative process. In The Posture Prescription, Arthur White offers a very sound and even innovative message about how to do so. All in all, this is a book that gave me some very good, common-sense ideas that are EASY to do, and natural. My friend who is a massage therapist is so impressed with this book she buys it in bulk and has started giving it to her clients as part of a postural restructuring program. Practical, readable, and best of all it works.i fell and broke my right wrist(complete break) 3 yrs ago, since then i have been in the most severe back pain, non to which i have ever known ..depression took over, when you hurt for months and months, it takes its toll.
my master bedroom is now full of physical therapy equipment. recently, i started to notice my posture, i saw a slump in shoulders and a sway back woman......in one week after i received my book, i am standing and setting straight; aware when my shoulder slump, , of my body mechanics when i stoop or bend...this is a very good book for anyone and especially those who are suffering with back pain.........Prayer is a good thing also...i highly recommend ppd.I've been diagnosed as having osteoarthritis in my thoracic spine. The pain appeared while driving, working on a computer, and during the tail-end of my runs.
This book is incredibly helpful for those with back pain.
You'll need to eliminate sitting at chairs to improve, but it's worth it.
The greatest thing this book has brought to me is the squat. Most yoga books ignore this pose, tragically. The great Steve Ilg is big on it, but it gets overlooked in many of the books I read.
I squat almost all day at work now, and anytime I'm on the computer at home. In between squats, I kneel. But, I will not sit in a chair unless absolutely necessary.
This book has really helped me learn about posture. Also, it made me realize that my form while running and lifting was hideous.
The exercises are easy to learn for anyone.
Also, this book was the first I had ever heard the certain yoga postures were terrible for my pain (plow & knees to ears).
This is a great book, but I would think most people will need to read more than just this one. I recommend 7 Steps to a Pain Free Life, and the two books by Sarah Keys.
If nothing else, I've learned to squat throughout the day for back pain relief.
Dumbbell Training for Strength And Fitness

The book includes exercise routines from strength coaches such as Dr. Ken Leistner, Jeff Friday (strength coach for the Baltimore Ravens) and several strength coaches for NCAA division 1 schools.
The book is totally essential for anyone training at home, but will be of a great help to those training in gyms. In fact, some who train at gyms will be tempted to purchase a set of Power block dummbbells (dumbbells that go from 10-130 lbs and take up about 4 square feet) and skip their gym fees. After reading this book, you will gain a greater appreciation of the usefulness and versatility of training with dumbbells.
Get this book! You will not be disappointed. If your workout employs dumbbells (Powerblocks in my case), this book is a great resource.
Though Brzycki doesn't go into the depth of why HIT works as much as his other books (Maximize Your Training; A Practical Approach To Strength Training), the book does provide a reasonable background on training philosophy as well as rep, set and tempo recommendations.
The gem that sets this book aside from others are the thirty plus workouts from outstanding trainers at the high school, collegiate and professional level from all around the United States. Excellent stuff that will keep any training enthusiast happy for a long time to come.
Bottom line? Buy this book. It's well worth the investment in time, money and your health.

There are a couple of "cons" to this book: I agree with previous comments that the photos are too small and not always at the best angle for showing the proper positions. Also, some of the models are wearing oversized T-shirts and sweatshirts that make it hard to see how they are holding their arms, positioning the back, etc. I also agree with the previous reviewer who said the squat in this book is a Bulgarian Squat, not what people would normally do for a regular squat. And the lunge does look like a split squat, not a regular lunge. When a routine in the book calls for a squat, I do a regular squat, not the Bulgarian Squat from the book. But overall this is a great book, with many great upper body routines, split routines, and specialization routines to choose from. Each routine was sumbitted by a different professional, and I'm enjoying sampling all the different training styles! The routines are short too, which makes it easy to stick with and find time to fit in a workout.

This book is valuable to anyone who wants to get the best results from his/her strength routine, whether training at home or training in a gym. Not only does this book describe how to train correctly (good form, proper intensity, recommended volume, etc.), it also provides many sample strength training routines that cover the whole body. This book can also teach one how to train with barbells and machines. It is not just limited to dumbells.I keep a copy of this book on the shelf above my desk and use it as a quick reference when training my clients and/or athletes. I highly recommend this book to any trainee or strength coach/fitness trainer.
Jeff Holt, M.Ed.
Professional Sports and Fitness TrainerDumbbell Training for Strength And Fitness is a well-written and illustrated guide to safe and effective dumbbell training. If, like me, you've been training with dumbbells for years and prefer it to other training methods, this book will expand your knowledge base on dumbbell training and provide a ton of tips on technique you would typically get only from a very knowledgeable personal trainer. If you are just getting started, most importantly, this book will walk you through the proper technique for dumbbell training. I cannot stress enough, especially with dumbbells, the need for "safe" training for longevity and "effective" training to achieve the results that motivate you to keep training. Great book worth the read if you train or want to start training on your own with dumbbells!

I literally planned my house around the advice given in this book! On many subjects, different views are given, and you are left to weigh the pluses and minuses and decide for yourself. This book is easy to read, fascinating, and not at all preaching. The author is also not bound by any predisposition to follow any specific views (i.e. she is not completely conventional or completely alternative) and just presents the facts straightforwardly. It is challenging these days to know what cookware to buy, how to get rid of ants without calling pest control, and what bubblebath is safe. I was surprised to learn that even my home's type smoke detectors contained fadioactive material (yikes) and that even your ironing board can outgass fumes...This book is very very helpful to me, this is info that is hard to find elsewhere! This book was a real eye opener for me during my first read--EYE OPENER!. I went through every chapter with a fine tooth comb and to tell you the truth I was shocked. Shocked because I have been assuming, up to this point, that the products I was using, in my household, in my hair, on my skin (the stuff I grew up on) was safe. Now I know this is USUALLY NOT the case. I have used this book as a continuous reference, a Bible if you will. READ THE LABELS on your products! This book changed my life and gave me an excellent education about how toxic our homes and body products REALLY are. Now...I rather dislike the companies who make toxic cleaning products, makeup and body products (and food). My hope is that someday this world will stop supporting the bad stuff and move on to the good.

What I love most about this book, is that Dadd gives practical changes that can be made as gradually or quickly as budget demands. We use alot of the recipes for natural cleaning in this book. But my favorite recipe overall is for the Ginger Soda... mmmm. As my children grow out of their old toys, almost all plastic, we've been getting them new ones that are more natural (wooden mostly). And as they are growing out of their clothes we replace them with cotton fabric. I was very suprised, as I looked at the tags in the clothes, how much of it was synthetic blends. We've replaced the childrens' and our bedding with 100% cotton and we're all sleeping better. I recommend this book to everyone who will give me the time of day! Enjoy and have safer, happier home!!The new version is shipping, even though the webpage information has not been updated. The new version is revised and expanded. The Resource lists of companies and products has been removed to Debra's website so it can stay current,

An excellent overall book covering a huge range of issues. Loads of good information and tips.
Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer-Can Chicken: The Definitive Guide: the Nation's Best Companion Guide

This book has an interesting name and many potential readers might be wondering exactly what is meant by the term "Beer Can Chicken". This is discussed in the books opening sections, with author Cary Black explaining how the beer can method works and how to prepare a beer can for this purpose. The beer can method of cooking chicken inspired special cooking devices like the Poultry Pal Cooker, described in the book's opening pages, and it forms the basis for other kitchen devices that help to cook chicken in a similar manner. These different cooking tools have slight differences, but they function the same way. They allow the meat juices to trickle down into a pan, combine with the beer (or other liquid) placed in the pan, and then bubble up, back into the chicken. The use of an actual beer can doesn't accomplish this feat as perfectly as an actual cooking apparatus, but the basic idea is the same. This produces a chicken that is flavorful, moist, and tender.
I like the fact that this book includes so many nonpoultry recipes. Most cookbooks of this type would have stuck with the main topic of chicken and failed to mention anything else. But Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer Can Chicken includes recipes for both side dishes and desserts. Author Cary Black wanted buyers of the book to have some good recipes for other foods to serve along with the fullycooked bird, so he added these final two sections to the book. They include vegetable side dishes and other things that are compatible with chicken, along with some tasty sweet foods to finish off the meal.
If you're the type who cooks on a budget, you will appreciate the fact that most of the recipes in this book are simple to prepare and they require only a small list of ingredients. Besides the chicken, it is common to see other requirements like onions, potatoes, butter, pepper, salt, garlic power, etc. The liquid flavor essence can call for ingredients like beer, wine, rum, cranberry juice, soy sauce, etc. As long as you have plenty of spices on hand, along with an assortment of beer and liquor, you should have no trouble rounding up the ingredients for most all of these recipes. The ingredients are relatively few, and they are basic ingredientsnot items that are going to cost a small fortune to purchase.
Overall, Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer Can Chicken is a good recipe book for those who like to cook chicken and who like to discover new and creative ways to make an ordinary piece of poultry taste like something prepared by a gourmet chef. The presentation of the book is much like the printout from a standard word document, and it wasn't designed with the most professional look in mind. But the book, taken as a whole, is quite good. It offers some unique and delicious ways to prepare a chicken or turkey along with some good educational material, side dish and dessert recipes, and basic advice to ensure your meal is one worth remembering.Beer can chicken has been a fave at my house for a long time. It was nice to find a book with all the brining and injecting information! No one else has that! The desserts were good and so were the accompaniments. I use this cookbook VERY much and really like it. The cartoons and humor made it a book to cook with that made me smile! It's not often that you can read a cookbook strickly for the fun of it, but this is one of those times. This book is not only a lot of fun to read, it also offers practical recipes for the cook in your family. Put it on the shelf in your kitchen and use for all your parties .... we did.
