DIY Nail Art: Easy, Step-by-Step Instructions for 75 Creative Nail Art Designs

DIY Nail Art: Easy, Step-by-Step Instructions for 75 Creative Nail Art DesignsI bought this as a gift, i like the easy steps and simple illustration. This is a perfect book for beginners.

This book is exactly what I had been looking for to help my 12 year old daughter take her nail designs to the next level. I bought her this book, a set of brushes, and her first set of dotting tools for Christmas. She was THRILLED. She has been able to recreate designs from this book and is very proud of herself for doing so (as am I).

Book was pretty much exactly what I was looking for cute designs that I felt like I could actually paint. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt some of the designs were repetitive, but still very happy with my purchase. Can't wait to try one of the designs out!

Women's Home Workout Bible

Women's Home Workout BibleThis book is flat-out terrific. I don't think I've been this happy with a workout book since The New Rules of Lifting for Women. You can set up a simple space for very little money or if you have the desire for a more professional gym-at-home, you can set one up as well using the advice in this book. The budgets range from a minimal $100 to upwards of $2500 (estimates, as your costs locally will vary.)

I just listened to someone complain that their gym played "unsuitable dvds" for their little toddler in the babysitting area. And someone else complained about loud cellphone conversations on the treadmill next to them. Uck. AND it is flu season and perhaps you don't like to watch people wipe their noses on equipment, not wash their hands after you-know-where and drip sweat without wiping it up. If you are grossed out by this, or have no good gym nearby or if you are happier at home, this book is for you. Also for you if getting up and out of the house is an issue; no excuses when the workout area is right next to the tv set.

The book has beautiful photographs that show proper position for using weights on benches, physio ball or bands, as well as machines. These photos are LARGE and CLEAR. While I think it's advisable to see a professional trainer if you are beginning to work out in order to get the best advice on the safest way to position yourself, this book is a great adjunct to occasionally working with a trainer or to re-familiarize yourself.

There are workout routines in the back of the book for core stability, body sculpting, or body conditioning and they are organized by ...budget! Yes. Not everyone has megabucks to set up a home gym. So the workouts go from a hundred dollars to a couple of thousand depending on how you set up your home gym. There is also a table in the front showing which exercises are done with which set of equipment, so if you love doing leg presses on a sled, you will have to substitute leg presses with a resistance band if you don't have this gigantic machine in your budget (I love the sled but it looks like an iron maiden, doesn't work with my decor and costs a bundle.) There is a section on fat loss and intensity training.

The book has info on buying equipment (used? new? local? online? and what about those alluring late-nite-you-saw-it-on-tee-vee inventions that promise to give you a six-pack if you'll only order in the next twenty minutes?) The minimal gym (and minimal space) uses a physio ball (aka Swiss Ball, exercise ball), resistance bands and a few dumbbells and maybe a yoga mat. I have a setup like this in my bedroom where we have no carpet. It takes up maybe 20 square feet if that. I store it in a space about the size of a tv set. (rolled up mat, ball, dumbbells and band.) While I have a larger space in the basement, I often just want to wake up and grab my physio ball and dumbbells and go for it. This set-up is perfect for a dorm room, an apartment or a house where you just have no space for a complete workout area. Literally, your family room can become a decent gym in a few seconds.

The home gym will also work for other workouts that you may already do with DVD or book. For example, Joyce Vedral's Speedy Non-Stop Fat Meltdown uses a bench and three sets of dumbbells. I substitute a physio ball for a bench, but benches are to be had for a reasonable sum especially if you search local classified ads or yard sales.

If I could give this book TEN stars, I would.

Women's Home Workout Bible is a fantastic book for any woman looking to get into better shape. It's one of the best books I've found to help you get started from the very first steps.

Author Brad Schoenfeld does an awesome job with great details on getting your home setup with a budget anywhere from under $100 to over $2500. Brad lists the type of equipment that will work in each cost range, and what to plan in terms of space.

The transition from this area into the exercises could be done a little better it seems that you're reading about equipment and then POOF pages of exercises just appear. Some sort of an introduction could have done well here. Also, some of those models look decidedly grumpy :) I'd be more inspired by people who looked like they were enjoying their workout.

Still, minor complaints. The photos are large and very clear, and the descriptions include modifications for those who need help. The book indicates as research is showing that stretching before working out doesn't really help much. You should always stretch daily as part of a daily routine, and not try to cram it in right before working out! Instead, do light cardio to warm up, and then if you want to, stretch at the end of your workout while your muscles are nice and warm.

Brad guides you sensibly. 80% of people who set up a gym stop using it in two months because they give up. Make realistic goals, in 3 month chunks. Visualize your healthy state with focus, and eat well. Drink lots of water. Make sure you include rest days in your routine, to give your body a chance to heal and settle.

One thing Brad talks about is the worry some have about the "ideal time to work out". In the end, he explains, it really doesn't matter what slight advantage you get for working out at time #1 vs time #2. If you don't exercise because it's inconvenient, then you get zero benefit. Find a time that works best for you, and work out then.

Make sure you switch through a range of activities and exercises. If you do the same thing every day then your body gets used to it and becomes efficient. Change things up to keep your body adjusting.

Interestingly, this book introduced me to a new concept that of mitochondrial density. Mitochondria are little organelles inside your cells which power the cells. The more energy you need, the more mitochondria your body creates. If you stop needing energy, your body destroys the excess mitochondria. By ramping up the number of mitochondria you have increasing your mitochondrial density you ramp up the energy you burn every day and the energy you have available to use. It's well worth it to exercise daily, mix it up between stretchy yoga, jumpy cardio and tough weight-based, to keep those mitochondria duplicating.

Some of the charts in here are hard to decipher they would have done better with line charts or more descriptions. Maybe that will come with a later version.

Still, all in all, the book is really great. The information is extremely useful, the photos are clear and easy to use, and everything is laid out in a simple fashion. I have belonged to gyms in the past, but now that I work from home it's just not convenient to go out to a gym, especially with the hours I keep. By having my gear set up at home, I can do some exercising any hour of the day or night, whenever I have spare time. It's great.

Highly recommended!

NOTE: I received a free review copy of this book directly from the author.

This book is designed to assist women with creating a custom workout space at home. In his Introduction, author Brad Schoenfeld asserts that home-gym ownership provides both freedom and significant savings. His book is extremely individualized, allowing the reader to determine what exactly is appropriate to her allotted workout space. Once these preliminary decisions have been made (in Part 1), Schoenfeld devotes Part II of the book to selecting exercises based on the type of equipment which works with both your space and your budget. He begins with the most basic of tools, including one's own body weight, balls, and bands. The next chapter introduces use of weights--in the form of dumbbells and barbells--and finally, Schoenfeld, addresses the use of larger pieces of equipment such a multifunction machines. Throughout this section, the exercises are are beautifully illustrated using full-color photographs: a single move is featured per page, with two separate photos displaying the start and end points for each exercise; additional variations are sometimes shown as well. Schoenfeld ends Part II by offering some guidance for the cardio portion of your exercise routine (including a brief discussion of cardio machines) and devoting a chapter to stretching.

In the final section of the book, Part III, Schoenfeld provides specific fitness strategies and exercise routines based on the information provided in the previous chapters. Here he reviews general training tips and presents an overview of the major muscle groups. Schoenfeld advocates a multiple set training style, maintaining that this will optimize results and avoid plateaus. Within this style, however, he offers various routines, as determined both by budget level (e.g., $100 Budget, $1000 Budget, or $2500 Budget) and by training emphasis (Body Conditioning Routine, Body Sculpting Routine, or Core Stability Routine). Furthermore, Schoenfeld also talks about varying other aspects of the program, including number of repetitions, types of sets, which muscle groups are worked on which days, etc., all in the name of avoiding plateaus and moving forward. In the final chapter of the book, Schoenfeld mentions the use of high intensity interval training for increased fat loss.

Overall, I found this book to be extremely well-done. I'm not exactly the target audience, as I am already a dedicated home exerciser with a well-established home workout space (in my own case, mainly in the form of my vast fitness DVD collection, but I also have most of the basic resistance training equipment discussed here--e.g., bands, dumbbells, medicine ball, and a stability ball--as well as a recumbent bike). However, this book was still quite useful to me, mainly in the variety of exercises which Schoefeld provides. For example, although I was already familiar with most of weighted exercises included in the book, there were definitely some resistance band variations which were new to me, and I plan to incorporate these into my worktout routine from time to time as a change of pace. For women who actually are looking to set up a home gym, this book is likely to be an invaluable resource, and I highly recommend it.

I have dozens of fitness books (including two of Brad's previous books). As a certified trainer and group exercise instructor, this book far suppasses anything that is out there. Brad, who runs his own fitness facility isn't critical about the gym, but at the same time getting this book AND applying it will save you a gym membership.

I saw this book at B&N and reviwed it. It is top quality: the pictures are clear, the exercise demonstrations are precise. Brad is not a faddish fitness expert or one of those overnight sensations. He is no nonsense, always communicates the truth, and his writing style is done in such a supurb way that anyone can understand. One doesn't have to be a exercise science major to understand.

You don't have to spend a mint on infomercial equipment: just get this book, follow his advice, do the exercises, and you will get results.

Again, this is by far one of the very best exercise, fitness, and wellness tools on the market PERIOD. It far exceeded my expectations...but then again, I should not have been surprised because Brad only produces quality, not junk.

ANY personal trainer or fitness expert carry this book to their sessions. Your clients will not regret your use of it.

I am in love with this book! It is FANTASTIC! The Women's Home Workout Bible by Brad Schoenfeld is everything I've ever wanted in a workout resource, and much, much more! It is designed to help any woman set up a workout area in her own home, with budgets ranging from less than $100 to over $2500, depending on what the woman wants. The absolutely amazing thing is that Schoenfeld shows how to get a great, gym-style workout, for very little money.

There are hundreds of exercises, complete with large, easy to see photos and complete explanation, and often slight alternatives as well. The book is organized very well into sections that include body weight, balance balls, elastic bands, dumbbells, barbells and machines. And each section breaks down into shoulders and arms, torso, core, and lower body. It explains sets, reps, tools and equipment, and various workout jargons as well. There are several routines included, but it would be super easy to create your own routine.

The author also takes the time to discuss how or where to purchase equipment, new vs old, etc. This book includes everything to do a proper workout, whether for a slight, low-impact workout, for an intense, grueling workout, and anything in between.

Waking the Tiger Within: How to Be Safe from Crime on the Street, at Home, on Trips, at Work, and at

Waking the Tiger Within: How to Be Safe from Crime on the Street, at Home, on Trips, at Work, and at School with New Fighting Terrorism ChapterScott Flint is an accomplished martial artist and self defense trainer. In this book he will teach you ways to increase your awareness, methods to develop your instinctual fighting ability and techniques to keep you safe wherever you go.

This is not a book for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Scott goes right for the jugular, and pulls no punches with the techniques shown. His style is very much in your face and up close and personal. As he puts it you must become your assailants worst nightmare if you are to survive

As a full time self defense trainer and part time law enforcement officer, I am constantly amazed by recommendations made by well-intentioned people that you should give in to the attacker and just do whatever he says. My experience and research has shown that the individuals who are mentally aware, properly trained and are willing to fight back are the survivors. This book clearly shows how to do all three.

The good news is that statistics show that the people that are the most prepared to defend themselves are the most likely not to get attacked. Although most attackers are dumb, they are not stupid. Just as the tiger looks for the weakest animal in the herd, the predator looks for signs of weakness when choosing a victim. Just the mere act of preparing yourself may be enough to keep you safe.

Waking the Tiger Within is easy to follow and understand and should be considered a must-read for anyone interested in defending themselves and their loved ones from violent attacks.

"What a great book! Just finished the first reading last night. I am an NRA Certified Instructor in the Refuse To Be A Victim(r) Program, and of course many of the things mentioned are included in our seminars. A number of other items brought up will be finding their way into future seminars I'll be conducting. Thanks for a super job."

Easy to read, understand, and remember, this concise volume supplies straightforward instructions on personal protection from criminals. The advice is to the point, minimizing situational nuance and anecdotal discussion. The author explains how almost anyone can avoid being an easy mark and how he/she can disable an attacker and escape danger if necessary. Children are told how to deal with would-be kidnappers and bullies.

In modern societies, many individuals are so burdened by concepts of sensitivity and political correctness that they are ready prey for criminals. The author pulls no punches in emphasizing why and how these attitudes must be set aside. To be safe, there are things people simply MUST do and things people simply MUST NOT do in a world menaced by strongarm carjackings, gang wildings, vicious home invasions, and terroristic spree killings.

In one day, most readers can absorb this book and steel a wobbly outlook or strengthen an existing resolve to be a non-victim.

New Choices in Natural Healing: Over 1,800 of the Best Self-Help Remedies from the World of Alternat

New Choices in Natural Healing: Over 1,800 of the Best Self-Help Remedies from the World of Alternative MedicineThis book is used to discuss the alternative ways for healing, for people looking for other methods of healing rather than expensive medications from the hospital. This book covers traditional and eastern ways of healing, as well as nutritional healing, such as food therapy, juice therapy, vitamin and mineral therapy. The book is organized by health problems, and has an introduction for each method of healing. It also contains a resource page where you can find information on each method.

If you are wanting to understand more about natural healing, this book is definantly for you!

This book has natural remedies for minor ailments (it specifically mentions that if symptoms are severe or persist over an extended period of time you should see a doctor). I have found it very helpful (I figured in the least it can't hurt me). This book is split into 3 parts.

Part I: This part contains an overview of what natural healing is and then gives descriptions of various methods used in natural healing (ex. acupressure, aromatherapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, yoga).

Part II: This book lists many ailments in alphabetical order. It is easy to look them up because they are written as an encyclopedia style reference. Some problems included are: acre, bad breath, colds, heartburn, jet lag, rashes, and warts. This part also includes illustrations of things such as massage and acupressure so that it is easy to lacate the areas yourself.

Part III: This part lists various resources in case the reader is interested in looking up more information or some organizations that deal with natural healing.

I would recomend this book for anyone who doesn't know much about natural healing but likes to try and heal themselves before seeing a medical doctor.

New Choices in Natural Healing takes several areas of natural health care and incorporates it by condition. As an example, if you were to turn alphabetically, of course to Arthritis, you'd read a short paragraph describing the ailemtn, then a paragraph or two under Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation and Meditation, Vitamin and Mineral Therapy, and -finallyyoga.

If you know much on herbs, you'd get frustrated seeing the cautious and very generic recommendations, and the same goes for some other areas. However, to have this much information on such a wide variety in one book is invaluable, an excellent idea and, even if not done completely up to par, worth owning. The authors act more as journalists in a way, objectively describing what the experts in each field would recommend for each condition, not taking an active stance much. The objective authors of course follow it up with ask your doctor and generic advice, but the book they've put together has served its use well enough.

The end section is great, as it's filled with illustrations on acupressure points, massages, reflexology jargon and charts, a few relaxation stretches, yoga illustrations (good amount of these). This section alone brought the book up another star I'm a visual learner, and the diagrams can assist many people. Great segment!

The beginning is well-done, also, telling about each area of natural healing with background details and such. Having a book at your fingertips that will point you in the right direction for a variety of natural techniques is priceless. In order to learn this much about each would involve buying multiple books about seperate healing techniques a book such as this saves mucho on the wallet, makes general browsing a breeze, and cuts your time in half. Not perfect in some areas, but certainly worth picking up!

Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer-Can Chicken: The Definitive Guide: the Nation's Best Companion Guide

Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer-Can Chicken: The Definitive Guide: the Nation's Best Companion Guide for Cooking, Brining, and Injecting Beer-Can ChickenWhen this book calls itself "The Definitive Guide", it's not boasting! Easy-to-understand recipes for the best tasting beer can chicken EVER. Lots of recipes for desserts and stuff to go with your main dish of BEER CAN CHICKEN! There's even beer can TURKEY recipes! I have tried almost every recipe in the book with ease and no fail results! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I received my first copy of this cookbook when I bought my " Poultry Pal " vertical poultry cooker. The cooker and the the recipes in the book are excellent. I have purchased several more of each to share with family and friends. I'm working my way thru the book and haven't found a recipe my wife and I haven't liked yet. I'm sure there is one, but we haven't picked it yet. We really like the "Bavarian Kraut Bird" calling for "Hefenweizen" , a german sweet wheat beer as liquid base. The recipe recommends an aperitif of Schnapps, but we like Hard Apple Cider. Enjoy!

Buy Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer-Can Chicken: The Definitive Guide: the Nation's Best Companion Guide Now

Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer Can Chicken provides the reader with the full cookbook experience. Starting with some information about unique cooking devices that infuse your chicken or turkey with different flavorings, the book then covers several important aspects of beer can cooking, including safety; gas, oven, and charcoal grilling; rubs and marinades; and brining/injections. The book is more than just a list of recipes: It wants the reader to get the full experience, with facts and tips on all aspects of the cooking process.

This book has an interesting name and many potential readers might be wondering exactly what is meant by the term "Beer Can Chicken". This is discussed in the books opening sections, with author Cary Black explaining how the beer can method works and how to prepare a beer can for this purpose. The beer can method of cooking chicken inspired special cooking devices like the Poultry Pal Cooker, described in the book's opening pages, and it forms the basis for other kitchen devices that help to cook chicken in a similar manner. These different cooking tools have slight differences, but they function the same way. They allow the meat juices to trickle down into a pan, combine with the beer (or other liquid) placed in the pan, and then bubble up, back into the chicken. The use of an actual beer can doesn't accomplish this feat as perfectly as an actual cooking apparatus, but the basic idea is the same. This produces a chicken that is flavorful, moist, and tender.

I like the fact that this book includes so many nonpoultry recipes. Most cookbooks of this type would have stuck with the main topic of chicken and failed to mention anything else. But Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer Can Chicken includes recipes for both side dishes and desserts. Author Cary Black wanted buyers of the book to have some good recipes for other foods to serve along with the fullycooked bird, so he added these final two sections to the book. They include vegetable side dishes and other things that are compatible with chicken, along with some tasty sweet foods to finish off the meal.

If you're the type who cooks on a budget, you will appreciate the fact that most of the recipes in this book are simple to prepare and they require only a small list of ingredients. Besides the chicken, it is common to see other requirements like onions, potatoes, butter, pepper, salt, garlic power, etc. The liquid flavor essence can call for ingredients like beer, wine, rum, cranberry juice, soy sauce, etc. As long as you have plenty of spices on hand, along with an assortment of beer and liquor, you should have no trouble rounding up the ingredients for most all of these recipes. The ingredients are relatively few, and they are basic ingredientsnot items that are going to cost a small fortune to purchase.

Overall, Zen and the Art of Cooking Beer Can Chicken is a good recipe book for those who like to cook chicken and who like to discover new and creative ways to make an ordinary piece of poultry taste like something prepared by a gourmet chef. The presentation of the book is much like the printout from a standard word document, and it wasn't designed with the most professional look in mind. But the book, taken as a whole, is quite good. It offers some unique and delicious ways to prepare a chicken or turkey along with some good educational material, side dish and dessert recipes, and basic advice to ensure your meal is one worth remembering.

Meniere Man And The Astronaut. The Self Help Book For Meniere's Disease

Meniere Man And The Astronaut. The Self Help Book For Meniere's DiseaseThe author was struck with the disease in his prime, 46-years-old. He lovingly shares how he overcame this debilitating disease in hopes that it will help others who are faced with the same frightening challenge.

In spite of the fact that the cause is unknown and there is no well-defined treatment, he chose to not let the disease defeat him. He won the battle by changing his attitude about the disease and taking back control of his life through exercise, diet, vitamins, alternative therapies and positive mental training.

He urges those who are facing the same battle to create their own personal regime and take control. He then proceeds to give you detailed instructions on the steps he took to take back his life. He covers so much that is would be impossible to list them all in this short review, but some points that jumped out at me were:

1. The importance of finding your triggers and stressors

2. How to cope with an attack, the hearing loss, and diminished cognitive abilities.

3. Medications, surgical options, and alternative therapies.

He emphasizes that the only thing that stands in the way of successfully managing the illness is attitude. It is important to understand that there are viable choices that can be made.

He ends the book with a short chapter titled: Laugh. Love. Life. . . . then, follows it with "100 ways of coping with Meniere's."

Highly recommended.

Kudos to the author for having the strength to tackle a subject that hits so close to home.

One by one he skillfully addresses each aspect of the disease; from symptom recognition, to the effect of each symptom on the human body, and finally to the options available in treating these debilitating symptoms.

Not only did the author present a smorgasbord of pertinent information, but did so from a first-person point of view. Not only in a way that was easily understood, but in a fashion that tugged at the reader's heartstrings as well.

If you a looking for the definitive `read' on Meniere's disease this is the book for you.

It has helped me tremendously in dealing with my sister's husband.

I was unsure of what to expect when I started to read this book, but it quickly became apparent that it is in fact, a truly uplifting story. Both well written and well structured, it takes the reader on one man's incredible journey from the complete despair at suffering the debilitating Meneire decease to inspirational hope for others in his position. It's pages contain a lot of helpful information but it is also an entertaining read.

This book could only be written by someone who has been to hell and back. It's poignancy tugs at the heart strings at times and yet the story is inspiring and full of hope. The author writes with authority and a hugely positive attitude, which makes me think that this book will be of immense help to anyone suffering any chronic illness.

I feel so strongly about the message of hope this book conveys, that I have recommended it to my daughter-in-law who, as a young mother herself, has suffered through a difficult decease and life-changing surgery.
