Natural Health Remedies: An A-Z handbook with natural treatments

Natural Health Remedies: An A-Z handbook with natural treatmentsI saw Dr. Maccaro on a talk show on the TV and found here to be very personable. Her book is a great resource for information and redmedies. I have been looking for an natural healing book but so many of them have so much New Age spirituality I could not bring myself to buy them. This book will give you down to earth remedies and uplifiting Christian veiwpoints. I found it very refreshing and informative.

I think this is an excellent resource to have in the home for continual review of different health conditions and natural(herbs and vitamins)ways

of treatment. As a Christian, I appreciated the references to prayer and

the Bible.

This book contains quite a bit of health information that you don't get from your traditional doctors, although it should be that they read these books. Janet Maccaro's book is written in a simplistic way. A way in which it is easy to read and to understand. She also writes in such a way that you can feel free and safe to incorporate her remedies in your everyday living. They are natural and safe remedies. Of course, some of them you might want to discuss with your physician just to let them know you are considering, or are doing, a certian remedy that you read from her book. I would suggest this book to anyone who is interested in learing more about natural health remedies.

With so many possible side effects possible from traditional drugs and remedies, I believe the best answers come from nature itself. I found this book to be very helpful and I will use it as a resource for years to come. Why treat the symptom when God gave us natural answers to treat the root of the problem.

I was watching James Robison one day and Janet Maccaro was his guest. She gave an extremely intelligent review of her book, Natural Health Remedies, along with examples of its contents. I picked up her book and found the most widespread uses of herbs and natural foods with cures for almost any condition. Dr. Maccaro has spent hours of time researching and testing different natural remedies and has written a book so easy to follow anyone can improve their health.

The book is so well designed, you can turn to any condition or any section and get results without reading the entire book first. I would recommend this book to anyone having health problems, or just wanting to stay healthy. Thank you for bringing God's remedies to light in such an easy to read format !

The Merck Manual of Medical Information: 2nd Home Edition (Merck Manual of Medical Information Home

The Merck Manual of Medical Information: 2nd Home EditionThis reference book is easy to use and understand. When I first leaned of this home edition version of the Merck manual I was hesitant. Over the years many books have been published that are medical in nature, some published by doctors, but the content is watered down or so vague that a layperson doesn't derive much information from it. Some books are actually condescending in attitude, some patronizing. So many books briefly skim symptoms and then caution to call a physician for more information.

My son was diagnosed on the phone by our pediatrician with chicken pox and it was made clear that they did not want to see him for a physical exam. I was given a tiny bit of information by the office staff but was still curious for more information. I spent over an hour surfing the Internet looking for information but found watered down information, repeated many times over on multiple websites, including some written by physicians intended for laypeople to use. I looked at my parenting books written by doctors (one titled "The Portable Pediatrician") and was still lacking any substantial information.

But when I consulted the Merck Manual home edition, (which I had forgotten I bought recently and had not yet used), I was surprised at the level of information given. There are many details that I had not found elsewhere, such as number of days from exposure to outbreak, how long it takes the pox to change from first appearance to crusted over, about how long the infection lasts, and treatment suggestions. Reasons why some children have a mild outbreak vs. a severe outbreak were even provided, something I had not found anywhere else.

The information here is not dumbed down in that it is not so vague that it is not useful. There is a lot of information here but it is written in a style for the layperson to understand. I appreciated the writing style, which presents information to the non-physician without putting on airs.

Anyone who, like me, prefers to gather information and learn about things rather than making a call or office visit to their doctor to get just one opinion will appreciate owning this book. At about 1500 pages it covers many illnesses and ailments. If you are interested in this book I suggest you buy it so that you have it at your fingertips 24 hours a day, for whatever may arise. I am not suggesting this take the place of a doctor, but I know from working with physicians that there are certain calls that are non-emergent in nature that are not appreciated when the office is closed!

Note: I write this review in 6/2002 and don't know why the review never appeared here. I am resubmitting it over three years later. I have been using this book regularly since I wrote this review for many ailments and it has never disappointed me. I am still very happy with it.

I am a physician working in the Northwest, and I own this book. I purchased it when I was in medical school and used it as a primer to get a plain English explaination of most common diseases. It is up to date, and far more accurate and unbiased compared to information you might find through google. I have no idea why it costs only $14, as medical textbooks of it's size usually cost five times as much.

In referance to the previous reviewer's statment, please don't every buy Gray's Anatomy. Few medical schools in the last half century have used it. Try Netter's Guide to Anatomy if you'd really like a good Anatomy book -that is the gold standard.

If you, family members, or friends have some kind of physicial discomfort or illness, chances are this book has an explantion and a solution for it! Written for people that have no particular medical understanding whatsoever. The explanations are extremely detailed, and some section have illustrations and diagrams for performing emergency procedures. Over 1,767 pages of valuable information for an incredible price of $7.99, wow! If Gray's Anatomy is considered as de facto for people in biology/medical fields, then this book is the bible for how to correctly apply those knowledges to save life.

I'm an RN student and ordered this book along with the "real" Merck Manual. While I would highly recommend this for people without much clinical background, I would strongly recommend that an RN student save their money. I've opened this book once since I bought it and I'll be giving it away to a family member. Not that the information contained in it isn't great, but I can get much more information out of my Merck Manual so I don't even waste time picking this book up. If you're a student or professional in a clinical setting looking for a book to quickly reference pathophys in, then skip this book altogether and just get the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy. However, if this book is intended for someone not in the medical profession, then by all means, this is the book to have.

Joey Green's Amazing Kitchen Cures: 1,150 Ways to Prevent and Cure Common Ailments with Brand-Name P

Joey Green's Amazing Kitchen Cures: 1,150 Ways to Prevent and Cure Common Ailments with Brand-Name ProductsDid you know that you can stop sunburn pain by adding Cheerios to your bathwater (please don't recycle!)? Also, stop a shaving nick or canker sore in it's tracks with Alum (a spice by McCormick). These and other bizzare but useful tips can be found in this new book by Joey Green, author of "Polish Your Furniture With Panty Hose" and "Clean Your Clothes with Cheez Whiz". Learn how, in a pinch, you can shave with Jif peanut butter, or use a credit card to scrape your tongue when out in public and plagued with hallitosis. Gatorade can cure a headache? You bet. Then, there are some no-brainers in here (e.g. use a Q-Tip as a substitute eye shadow applicator, shrink a zit with toothpasteall us 80's girls know this one! But, I had no idea toothpaste could reduce redness and speed the healing of a hickey!)If you love waterproof mascara, but hate removing it, simply keep Johnson's baby Shampoo on hand and remove mascara with a small amount of it on a cottonball. This book also has "Strange Facts" at the end of each chapter; did you know Abe Lincoln's Mother died from drinking the milk of a cow that ate poisonous mushrooms? The phrase "cold shoulder" originated in the Middle Ages when Europeans fed unwanted guests leftover beef shoulder to get them to leave. If for no other reason, get this book and find out how using McCormick food coloring can help you clean your teeth better. A fun book, great to give as a gift.

I had seen an ad about this book with some of the remedies listed. I went and bought it just to see what I could find in there. As I started reading it, I saw ones my MOM used.

Say you're cooking and some grease gets on you, try Colgate toothpaste(regular). Canada Dry Ginger Ale is great for upset stomach (generic brand works just as well) for clearing up congestion. There were quite a few old family remedies in this book that I've used before. The author also lists interesting facts about the companies whose products he lists. He also explains in many of the remedies why they work.

The book is really helpful, but don't feel you can only use the brand names he lists. For example, the one about using Canada Dry Ginger Ale I've used generic brands for years and you will get the same result. The Colgate one I've used gel types and that works too. I'll probably be going through this book again and again. It's a nice reference for the price :)

I recently picked up another copy for a relative. Her kids found the book and SHE didn't see it again for a week. I didn't realize the kids would be so fascinated with the book. It's really a great way to have kids explore how things work. Again, a great reference.

Joey Green has written several books detailing the most commonplace items in your kitchen, garden, and so forth that you can use for remedies in you health, home repair, and so forth. This book, along the same genre, is not exception. Many of us don't realize what powerful chemicals already lie in many household goods that we possess. This book details some of the most commonplace items such as soap, cooking oil, and other things to repair and restore household items such scratched wooden tables, Milk of Magnesia for acne, etc. Kudos to Joey Green for this book.

This is the first time I've seen this author. I was at the library and picked this up. I found this to be an interesting book that provides solutions for cleaning and remedies for common health ailments using standard household items.

Examples include: Soak a sponge with Coca Cola and scrub to remove rust stains from a sink or tub; Remove fingernail polish without nail polish remover by rubbing your nails with a Bounce dryer sheet; Kill wasps and bees by spraying them with 409 All Purpose Cleaner (they drop to the ground instantly and the liquid kills them within seconds). This book also includes occassional pages of fascinating history on some of the products suggested in the book, i.e. Dial Soap, Budweiser, Life Savers.

There were so many interesting remedies and cleaning solutions that I had to buy the book from Amazon. I am really interested in trying more of the solutions. I question some of the "remedies." For instance, some of the burn treatments, like applying grape jelly or colgate toothpaste don't seem medically sound. I would definitely use common sense in using some of the suggestions in the book and I would defnitely not attempt to try something that may make a situation worse, like a burn treatment.

Overall, a fascinating book that may be helpful with many cleaning and health remedies, but take some of the suggestions with a grain of salt.

This book is great! A friend of mine was reading this book at work and I looked at it and was instantly intriged. I had to get my own. So I went to Amazon and got one. I use it when I get sick mostly. I've had family and friends call me and ask how to I get rid of this cold, flu, sore throat and etc. I tell them give me a sec, I get the book and read to them. They say its great too. It really has come in handy and saved me tons of money, because I don't have to go to the doctor for everything. Definately think everyone should own a copy OR get a friend to buy it. LOL

HypnoBirthing: A Celebration of Life

HypnoBirthing: A Celebration of LifeI highly recommend Marie Mongan's HypnoBirthing course, which I took in Februrary 2000. I had a painless 18-20 hour labor. I did feel pain for the first "surges" when I was home, as I scrunched my eyeballs, went into the fetal position and tensed my entire body. But as soon as I relaxed my entire body and went limp like a rag doll (as I learned to do by listening to the Rainbow Relaxation tape every day for a month prior to my due date) the pain stopped. Any time I felt a surge, I stopped what I was doing, leaned over, relaxed and breathed deeply. I never asked for or needed an epidural. At times, I also felt endorphins, which the book claims is the bodies "natural anesthesia." My son's labor (our first baby) was a wonderful, transformative, spiritual experience and I cannot wait to go through labor and give birth again.

This book (with a number of relaxation/self-hypnosis exercises to be practiced alone or with a partner) is a course workbook to be used in conjunction with course materials. When I read it, it occurred to me it would have made little sense without the benefit of taking the class. Note, however, that the author is the first person to admit that it was never meant to be a stand-alone book.

Another book I highly recommend is CHILDBIRTH WITHOUT FEAR by the late, great Dr. GRANTLY DICK-REED. One of the refreshing things about Marie Mongan is that she credits Dr. Dick-Reed with inspiring her to create the HypnoBirthing program. Dr. Dick-Reed's book (unfortunately out of print, but I found it at my local library) explains in greater detail all aspects of labor and delivery (actually the best description I have ever read.) He is the one who theorized that releasing fear and tension during labor is what enables women around the world to have a painless labor/birth experience. Reading THAT book will help to understand and appreciate Marie Mongan's book (especially if you don't have a HypnoBirthing practioner near you) and the other course materials she created.

This book is wonderful! It explains the process of hypnobirthing completely. It is easy to understand and is written well. The author explains how women experience pain in childbirth only because we are conditioned to think its necessary. Marie Mongan elaborates on this theory, the "Curse of Eve", as she calls it. After reading this book I definitely felt more confident about my pending birth of my second child, and I am more relaxed in my day-to-day events.

She explains how we are affected by stress and fear, how it works against our body's natural flow of labor. This book also explains techniques for relaxing and for inducing self-hypnosis. It also includes the different stages of labor and different sections for your birthing partner. It is not intended to be the only source if you choose this type of birthing process, you should also consult a therapist who is knowledgeable in hypnobirthing. She even has a website for more information!

I definitely recommend this book for any mom-to-be, especially if your first birthing experience was not what you wanted for yourself and your baby.

I was a skeptic. But with my first pregnancy, I had so many problems with drugs *not working*. The epidural wore off. Twice. And the third time it never took. I had other drugs on top of it, and they ran through me like water. The doctor said my adrenaline was running so high, it didn't seem like anything would take. And when it finally came time to push, I was so exhausted, they had to use forceps to keep me from a c-section. And I felt every bit of it.

So with the second pregnancy, I knew better than to rely on drugs. I had to learn how to deal with it on my own. At first, I was panicked. And then I read this book. I thought they were crazy. But what the heck I gave it a try. I labored at home for 18 hours without even having to call my doula yet. My husband watched football playoff games!!! But be careful you can cut it too close! I genuinely felt very little pain! But if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten to the hospital just a bit sooner, because my daughter was born only 20 minutes after I got in my hospital bed! I was not in near the amount of pain after delivery, my daughter was very alert, and best of all, I had I still can't believe I'm saying this a WONDERFUL labor and delivery. It reaffirmed for me what we are really capable of handling not just having handed to us, but *handling*.

I found this book to be extremely helpful, even without taking any hypnobirthing classes. The Hypnobirthing book shows you how to prepare mentally (with focus and relaxation techniques) and physically (with stretching exercises and instructions for perineal massage if you want to try it) for childbirth; it teaches you what all of your muscles are doing during labor to help you work with your body, which decreases the pain you experience; it suggests better positions for labor and delivery than the standard flat-on-your-back position; and it explains to you why childbirth doesn't have to be (and shouldn't be) a painful or scarey experience. I studied this book religiously before the birth of my second child, and that birth was so much easier and more peaceful than my first. I delivered my son without any medication or intervention, thanks to Hypnobirthing.

This book was a joy to read and helped me to develop a calm and peaceful outlook during my high risk twin pregnancy. After reading the book during my fourth month of pregnancy, I inquired about taking a hypnobirthing course with a local certified hypnobirthing instructor; but the instructor was rather skeptical about me being able to benefit from the course with a twin pregnancy and reminded me of my higher chance of complications and cesarean section birth. Although my twin pregnancy did result in complications that required me to be on strict hospital bedrest for a month, the relaxation exercises and thought training promoted in this book helped me during my bedrest experience and during a long and difficult labor. When the physicians were close to giving up on me and told me to seriously think about a cesarean section even though the babies weren't showing any signs of fetal distress, I believe my calm persistence and my continuous mental replay of the "opening blossom" and "progressive relaxation" techniques, among others, helped me to achieve a mental-physical state that allowed me to vaginally deliver both of my twins.

Strength Training for Young Athletes - 2E

Strength Training for Young Athletes - 2EMy son started lifting on his own about 3 months ago. I wanted to set him up with a good workout with the right weight and repetition so he would get the most out of the work out without damaging his developing bone and muscle structure. This book was extremely helpful in that it addresses safety issues, weight determination (maximum lift), repetitions and change ups. I would recommend this book to anyone with a pre-teen to mid-teen. It offers a good alternative to an adult lifting regimen that is not suitable for growing bodies.

I'm the father of a young athlete and a coach. The information in this book defintely dispells the myth that weight training should wait until the teenage years. I look forward to applying the principals from this book with my son and players.

Security For Women, The Evolution of Empowerment

Security For Women, The Evolution of EmpowermentMs. Clark does an excellent job of focusing on one of the key factors of self-defense: Prevention.

The first half of the book focuses on methods of Prevention, such as:

Situational Awareness

Risk/Threat Assessments

Surveillance Detection (State of the art prevention method)

The second half focuses on Integration (Prevention, defending and surviving). Ms. Clark gives various self-defense situations and looks at them from different angles. This is done effectively by walking the reader through the steps of what is actually going on in the situation (Through a possible victims eyes, perpetrator, etc). By asking questions and understanding mindsets, Ms. Clark changes the way in which one views these situations. What's important is that this change in view will lead to a safer world for the reader.

The book is a little lengthy (450 pages), but is a must read. I hope Ms. Clark continues her efforts to make our world safer.

Well written, lots of diagrams, clear explanations. It would make an excellent textbook for a personal security course. I have hundreds of books and videos on individual protective measures and this book is easily one of the best, if not the best, of the lot.

While women are the primary audience, much of the book is equally applicable to men.

I am a single mother. My daughter is heading off to college. I started to become concerned because I am so used to being able to check on her, meet the boys she dates, know where she is and when she is coming home. I realized that part of what it means when she goes off to college is that I will have limited ability to protect her. This made me so uncomfortable so I started looking at a variety of books, trying to find good information that I could give her before she left.

This book is a goldmine of information about every possible threat a woman could face. In one chapter "Preventing the Worst" there are so many useful tips that I was able to discuss with my daughter. We took the time to have conversations along the lines of "What would you do in this situation?" or "How would you handle it if this happened?" The book became our platform for addressing serious issues that young women must become aware of.

Naturally I gave my daughter the book to take with her to college because it is the kind of book she can use as a reference guide as things come up. I also bought another copy for myself because I found so much useful information in it about how a woman living alone can keep herself safe.

I have never seen anything like this book. The information is so incredibly practical, yet easy to understand. It is presented in such a way that it makes you feel confident about taking more responsibility for your own security while at the same time living with less fear. I strongly recommend this book for any woman. Keep a copy on hand because you never know when you or someone you care about might need it.

Total Knee Replacement and Rehabilitation: The Knee Owner's Manual

Total Knee Replacement and Rehabilitation: The Knee Owner's ManualTotal Knee Replacement & Rehabilitation is written by a surgeon (Daniel Brugioni) and a physiotherapist (Jeff Falkel), both well-qualified and specialists in this topic. Dr Falkel's own bilateral knee replacement both knees at the same time was an eye-opener to him and changed his own approach to managing knee replacement patients.

The number of people having total knee replacement is due to massively increase as post-war baby boomers start to hit their sixties, but this is unfortunately occurring at a time when health insurance companies around the world are tightening up on cost containment. The authors recognise that rehabilitation after total knee replacement is long, and insurance companies already do not fund adequate physiotherapy time. This book was written to support the knee replacement patient with practical advice for a full year after surgery.

The first two chapters give an overview of arthritis and current approaches to slowing its progression and improving quality of life. Knee replacement is discussed in some detail basic design considerations, bilateral knee replacement and how to go about finding a competent surgeon. Question and answer sessions complete each chapter.

There is a useful pre-surgery chapter, advising on getting your home ready for your return from hospital and giving useful exercise regimes for building up strength to facilitate the use of crutches or a walker after surgery. What to expect once you arrive at the hospital and on the day of your operation are covered in some detail, but detail of the surgical process itself has been deliberately minimised. Potential complications are, however, covered in an appendix.

From this point on the book really fleshes out, and focuses on rehabilitation, taking the reader day by day through carefully chosen exercise regimes, all explained and fully illustrated. Through the early days on the ward, then home, and beyond are all covered in significant detail, using for the greater part readily available household items as rehabilitation aids.

There are several sections on scar management. Bathroom aids are discussed. Range-of-motion exercises, strengthening exercises, balance exercises, endurance exercises all are discussed and illustrated, and carefully graduated as time progresses, right the way to a full return to normal activities. Question and answer sessions accompany each chapter, and an index of the exercises is available in its own appendix for ready reference.

This book will be extremely useful to anyone contemplating total knee replacement.

This is an excellent book for anyone thinking of having TKR. I would suggest that you read it prior having your surgery and keep it next to you during rehab. The information contained in this book answered many of the questions my husband has had. He refers to it on a daily basis for exercises and scar management. Now he is 9 weeks post surgical and he walks with no pain, no canes or braces and he is 83. The exercises in this book have been much more advanced than he received in Physical Therapy. It is great having a P. Therapist who has been through the surgery write about his experience.

My wife had total knee replacement surgery on one leg last June. When a friend and co-worker who had had both knees done (at the same time!) visited her in the hospital, she raved about this book and said it had helped her recovery greatly... even offered to give my wife her copy! Since the friend was doing so well only 6 weeks after her operation, I was very impressed and immediately ordered it. My wife, who is a registered nurse, has found it full of useful information and helpful exercises. Although she knew a lot about the process of knee replacement, she felt that this book clearly explains the process for the lay person. The authors stress the importance of strengthening your leg muscles before surgery. The post surgery exercises are intended to guide you through your first year of post-op healing. Lots of clear photos take the mystery out of this medical miracle and help you take charge of your own rehabilitation. If you are considering knee replacement, this book will improve your chances of returning to pain-free walking again!

I love this book! It got me through some really tough times. Because the authors have been through major surgery and one had bilateral TKR's, they know from where they speak. I bet I read the book 10 times while I was rehabing.

My only criticism, and it's minor, is the timelines for rehab seem a bit overambitious. I'm "only" 57 and some of the rehab was tough for me. I found myself questioning if I was really coming along as well as I thought at times. Just remember, regardless of age, everybody heals differently.

Anyway, I highly recommend this book to anyone undergoing TKR. Buy it BEFORE surgery.

The Heart Attack Germ: Prevent Strokes, Heart Attacks and the Symptoms of Alzheimer's by Protecting Yourself from the Infections and Inflammation of Cardiovascular DiseaseI read this book just after "The Potbelly Syndrome". They cover similar ground but this author has a medical background (to me that is not necessarily a good thing given the drugs-are-wonderful blinkers of the medical profession). Both books provide an alternative view, claiming that many health problems and degenerative diseases are actually due to long-term infections, often in chronic form that the standard tests fail to identify and that (therefore) most doctors ignore or even deny.

Physicians are reluctant to accept that standard tests might not be foolproof and even more reluctant to accept that the same type of bacteria and viruses present in healthy people could cause a variety of diseases in sick people, even though almost all healthy people eventually die of the same diseases, such as cancer, heart or kidney disease, and stroke (see PS below).

Chlamydia Pneumoniae (not the same as the sexually-transmitted form of Chlamydia, it has thus recently been renamed to Chlamydophila pneumoniae) is the most mentioned in both books, although there are many others that could be relevant. It is for this radical departure from the usual viewpoint that I have given it the two stars although this book disappoints in the long run. It takes over 300 pages to explain the problem; then there are less than 5 pages to explain the "advanced treatment" which consists mainly of wait for it repeated rounds of antibiotic treatment!

The proven counterproductive aspects of antibiotics are completely ignored and no success stories (either anecdotal or research-based) are provided for this "solution". In 2005 researchers reported that, in acne patients, antibiotic users are twice as likely to get an upper respiratory tract infection within a year; the Feb. 18, 2004 issue of "The Journal of the American Medical Association" provides evidence that long-term antibiotic use is linked to increased breast cancer risks (and they haven't yet researched other cancers in the same way); in children antibiotic treatment has been associated with increased risk of recurrences; these are just three bits of the ever-mounting evidence that antibiotics are dangerous yet this book offers antibiotics as the answer?! Words fail me.

The book indicates antiviral treatment may also be necessary and then touches briefly on fungal infections but does not recommend antifungal treatment. (No mention is made of parasites in either book; to me this is a worrying oversight.) To my further surprise and disappointment, this book also recommends daily aspirin, a "treatment" that has been proved dangerous, and then repeats the usual (useless) diet and exercise BS we've been getting for decades.

Basically, this book claims to cover improved treatments for the most prevalent chronic infections but does not. Where the "The Potbelly Syndrome" is so much better although it too provides no real solution is that it goes way beyond this, providing some of the evidence that the "lose weight & exercise" mantra is useless advice and looking at more up-to-date alternatives.

Also worth reading is Alan Cantwell's "Four Women Against Cancer" which explains how CWD bacteria they can live without having a cell wall and therefore act more like a virus cause cancer and how, since this bacteria is inside the cancer cells, tests don't find them and anti-microbial treatments (both natural and synthetic antibiotics, antifungals, antiprotozoals, and antivirals) do not cure cancer. This and the similar theory in The Heart Attack Germ book may be the underlying basis for many incurable health problems.

P.S. There are a few other books on this point: "The Inflammation Cure" by Meggs and Svec, "The Inflammation Syndrome" by Challem (dietary remedies only, in this one), "Stopping Inflammation" by Appleton (food again, particularly sugar, dairy and wheat as the bad guys), "Inflammation Nation" by Chilton (good and bad fats), and "The Anti-Inflammation Zone" by Sears (nutrition again) all appeared in 2003/4/5 and all discuss the role of inflammation in the major diseases of our time, and some of the things that one can do to limit inflammation.

All those books are also fairly easy to read but, as I know too well after more than a decade of careful nutrition, none really has a complete solution for the problem nor can I find anything more recent that might have offered newer/better advice even though there's more and more evidence to back up the book's claims in 2009 one report suggests that high blood pressure could be caused by a common virus, known as CMV, affecting between 60 and 99 per cent of adults worldwide, and that it is also linked to kidney disease, stroke and even cancer. In 2012 it was revealed that some arthritis is caused by bacteria.

LATEST NOTE: I had similar problems as outlined in this book and turned out to have serious adrenal fatigue and serious low thyroid issues. The thyroid issue had been getting worse for 2 decades, whilst "standard" medicine denied I had either, repeatedly assuring me all their tests "proved" this. `Hypothyroidism Type 2' by Mark Starr explains how all chronic pain is linked to low thyroid, including those involved with diabetes, heart problems, both bleeding (like gums, periods) & blood clots (including strokes) and some cancers. If you have any kind of chronic pain, you need to know 1. some are calling low thyroid the silent epidemic (silent because officially denied) and 2. that ALL the standard lab tests are WRONG. The FREE basal (at rest) temperature self-test is THE gold standard for low thyroid problems and with your symptoms means more than any lab test (although most conventional doctors won't agree). It will pick up conditions that current lab tests don't, such as thyroid resistance. The stopthethyroidmadness website has excellent instructions for this self-test, as well as several for adrenal fatigue, which often goes hand-in-hand with low thyroid.

Also, the new generation of colloidal silver, especially Sovereign Silver, is almost a panacea. The modern colloidal silvers are different from and safer than the old colloidal silvers and do not have the side effects. Most people need only 1 teaspoon a day. 2 teaspoons twice daily will cure almost anything safely.

This is an informative and well written book about the notorious Heart Attack Germ also known as Chlamydia pneumonia and how it relates to heart attacks, Alzheimer disease and other symptoms in the body. The author is a retired physician and surgeon who explains in detail and at times with a sense of humor what we all should know about our body. He covers everything from doctor office visits to lab work, preventative medicine and the detailed illustrations throughout the book make it easy for the non-medical reader to understand.

I highly recommend this book.

I really liked the way the author gives an overview and then discusses in detail all the different aspects of incidents. This book is not really for physicians, but I appreciated the practical aspects of the content and think families that have been affected by an incident would benefit from reading it.

101 Feng Shui Tips for Your Home (Feng Shui Series)

101 Feng Shui Tips for Your HomeWell, it's a simple story: I was interested in the subject and picked up a few books that would introduce me to it. All the books I bought were supposedly written for beginners but this is the only one that I was actually able to read and apply from start to end (the others being too complicated or abstract). With 20/20 hindsight, I can honestly say this is the only book that you'll need to start making significant changes to your sorroundings and your life.

Extremely useful, it is sitting on my coffee table right now and I refer to it almost everyday.

This is the best beginner's book for fengshui. It is clear, simple and well written. The best part is that it is easy to begin. Each of the tips in the book are independent examples. You can pick and choose as you go through the book. If you have never read any thing about fengshui before, you should start here. This book was featured by the FengShui BookClub(tm) on fengshuihelp

if you are looking for a simple introduction to feng shui, this is a great door opener. it presents the basic ideas of feng shui without too many details, which can be quite intricate. it provides enough information for a novice to implement the basic principles in their home. however, if you are serious about feng shui, or need detailed attention on problem areas, you will definitely want to follow up with more sophisticated reading once you determine where you need to focus your energy.

Although I didn't even know what Feng Shui was when my wife bought the book, I have gotten really into it because of the difference it has made in our lives. Thank you Richard Webster. The book is easy to read and understand and if you are not familiar with Feng Shui now, you will be when you finnish the book. Good solid advice. Excellent tips. A great starting point. Well worth the price

Don't waste your time or money on this book.

It is badly written, contradicts itself constantly, and the writter is obviously not an expert on the subject.

It is pure bull aimed for those looking for New Age solutions.

If you really want to learn about Feng Shui, read A master course in Feng Shui by Eva Wong. Be ready to do some study and hard thinking, but it is worth it. You'll realize that most of the books you've read on the subject are just based on the fact that we want to better our lives and fortunes and will practicaly do anything to achieve it. Don't let others get rich on behalf of your unkowledge. Research before you believe. Good luck.

A Handbook of Native American Herbs (Healing Arts)

A Handbook of Native American HerbsI love this book, from its use of plant scetches to its easy to understand format, to the fact it is actually in alphabetical order. I have been studying the usage of herbs since I was 13, and of all my books on herbs this one by far is my best and most used.

I would recomend it as very practical for modern usage as it tells the Name, Offical name, features, medical parts, uses, doseage, etc. It is a must for an herbalists bookshelf or for those into native american plants and culture.

I liked this book, educating and very factual. I reference this book almost daily. Pictures of the plant it self are in drawing form making it easy to identify the plant in the field. Narrow and saddle-bag size. Wonderful!

This is a very interesting book to use and to study. You'll find all sorts of things you never knew before. Things that you'll be thankful you knew in the future. It's also a great reference book for natural cures and treatments to various minor (or major) medical situations.

It's easy to navigate, easy to read, and easy to get what you need or want to know from it quickly :) Fantastic book to read, especially if you live in the country, or the woods.

The American Indians had no SuperWalmart to run an buy some ibuprofan or aspirin at 10 o'clock at night. Oh, the pain, what would the do??? Why not chew on the bark of a white willow tree! This is a good book detailing over one hundred herbs commonly used by the American Indians for a variety of treatments. The book details the treatment, gives methods of application and a drawing. Would be better (but more expensive) with color pictures. Helpful to a degree, limited without enough scientific information for my own needs.

First of all, if you thought this book was referring to herbs used by Native Americans, you were right only to a very minor degree. The book is actually referring to herbs found and used in America. This includes all herbs, native or introduced. It reviews each herb, it's scientific name, and common names, a description of each, and their uses. Most uses are for "folk medicine", although clinical uses and their effects are also given. Doses are given in most instances.
