How to Look Good Naked

How to Look Good NakedIf you haven't seen the TV show you might not appreciate the book. But if you've seen the show, this book is a great supplement! He gives style tips for 8 body shapes (3 of which apply to me). The models are 'real' women. A chapter on undergarments convinced me that the right lingerie is essential. He describes the outline of the show, including instructions on doing your own naked-photo shoot, and also touches on hair, skin and makeup. He discourages any kind of surgery.

Gok Wan has changed my perspective on how I see myself and because of that he's positively changed my life. I hear Gok's voice in the book, "Honey, let's go forth and conquer..."

It is utterly refreshing to read the loving, accepting and empathetic words of Gok throughout this book. As a larger amazonian woman for most of my adult life, I have suffered the harshness, judgement and 'advice' from society about my weight. Too many diets, books, teachers, philosophies to rake in money. Along comes Gok.

Not only is he sensitive and disarming in his love for women of all sizes, he offers practical 'you are beautiful no matter what, but let's make the most of the beauty that you are' ideas and inspirations.

I have turned a big corner since becoming exposed to his knowledge, ideas and wisdom but the most transformational thing of all, that any reader will feel from his book, is his heart.

It's simply healing. We've been dissed, rejected and judged enough. I look beautiful now and feel beautiful. THAT is the transformation.

I recommended this book to any lady who is suffering low self esteem and who wants real-time-now help to make her feel a million bucks.

The book does not help. The same model poses for pear shape and hourglass??? (same for the other models)

Why not take Trinny and Susannah's approach and show exactly what kind of clothing each shape needs instead of showing us ball gowns? Why not use the women from the series?

Achieve Anything In Just One Year: Be Inspired Daily to Live Your Dreams and Accomplish Your Goals

Achieve Anything In Just One Year: Be Inspired Daily to Live Your Dreams and Accomplish Your GoalsACHIEVE ANYTHING IN JUST ONE YEAR by Jason Harvey, a certified life

coach, certainly has an interesting premise; i.e., whether it would be possible

to accomplish such a task.

I'm not sure that's the case; however, the book's subtitle was much more

realistic: BE INSPIRED DAILY TO LIVE YOUR DREAMS AND ACHIEVE

YOUR GOALS . . . and the author did just that with his collection

of 365 ideas, each supported by a relevant quote and a mini-assignment.

Some had me shaking my head in agreement and thinking that I wished

I followed the advice more often . . . for example:

* "Always write angry letters to your enemies. Never mail

them."--James Fallows

Your assignment today is to add this tactic to your list of remedies

for anger. Give it a try if the opportunity presents itself sometime during

the day. Just remember never to send that letter, because if you do, you'll

have a lot of cleaning up to do later. Hurt feelings take a very long time

to mend.

Others had me focusing on what I could accomplish in any one day . . . for

instance:

* "Whatever you can do, or dream you can begin it. Boldness has

genius, power and magic in it."--Goethe

Your assignment today is to look at some of your dreams. Pick one. What can you do

to boldly go in the direction of that dream? Is there a clear and distinct move you can make

today that will start to hurl you toward that goal? Would it really be so scary? What first step

can you take in faith? The result may be magical.

And, lastly, there were quotes that had me laughing--such as this one that was

followed by an excellent recommendation:

* "When your mother is mad and asks you, `Do I look stupid?' it's best not to answer

her."--Meghan, Age 13

When is it a good idea to keep your mouth shut? Start a list of several appropriate scenarios

in your journal. Can you think of a time when you spoke up recently and shouldn't have?

What did you learn from that experience?

It is a very wise person who knows when not to speak. Talk is often overrated, and it can get

you into a lot of trouble, too. What would your day be like if you concentrated on listening

and tried avoid talking? Give it a shot, and then write about your experience in your journal

at the end of the day. What did you learn when you cultivated the art of keeping your

mouth shut?

ACHIEVE ANYTHING is the type book that should be savored and not read in just

one sitting, but rather, throughout the year . . . that's certainly my plan!

I really liked the forward of this book. The author speaks of how when we are young, we picture a certain life and now that we are adults, we are often not where we pictured ourselves. This spoke to me and I eagerly looked forward to reading the book.

Every morning you read a page and follow the instructions to achieve your dreamed goal. You'll need a notebook and pen to keep a diary, writing down your dreams and aspirations. Much soul searching, time and energy is required by this book and to some, it might become just one more thing to have to do in a day which is the opposite of what the author intended. Personally, I was lost when asked to write down the color of my soul. I sat there thinking way too long on that one and I don't have the time to be so existential first thing in the morning. Things like this lead me to skip a day here and there and then forced me to play catch up. Since I am only two months in, I am not sure I will be able to complete a full year in the manner intended.

The author makes sure to note that no goal is too silly or superficial. We should write down our dream and by taking heed of the daily motivation, follow the path to our dream. Quotes are provided for further inspiration. The author does provide compelling and inspiring words to help the reader but a lot of it is "if you really try, you can get whatever you want nothing is beyond your reach." I find the author's message to be positive and uplifting but not realistic; sometimes a dream cannot be achieved no matter how hard you try. Just ask anyone with a serious illness.

The author provides direction for the reader but no details or specific steps. One day I was instructed to think about my partnerships. The theme of the day was "together we can." Teamwork can help solve problems that individuals might not be able to handle. This book did not address what to do if you need to build a social network, it just told you to form them.

This book was filled with positive reinforcement and motivational quotes and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to think more positively. Or you could just say to yourself, "smile, life is good and today I will [fill in your dream here]" every day in the mirror.

I read a lot of these type of books and hoped I would find something new and more interesting in this one than the last few I have read. I found lots of new ideas and felt inspired right from the beginning. The author is so good and knows how to hold your attention.

You are supposed to read a page a day, but it was so interesting that I kept reading until I finished the whole book. But that's okay, because now I plan on going back and reading one page a day and do any exercises he advises you to do. Example: write down your dreams and see what you can do to head in the direction of that dream. All you need is a notebook to go with this book. I found the inspiring words by famous people at the top of each page really nice and they will make you stop and think.

He also gives great examples and you will find yourself comparing it to yourself or to people you know. Like those who sit around talking and planning constantly but never going into action or accomplishing anything. You don't have to have great ambitions to enjoy this book because even if you want to accomplish small things, it will help you get started. Small starts sometimes produce great results though so who knows what will happen then.

I wondered if I would find my biggest fault in there somewhere and I did. I am a loner but seem to collect people. If I walk down the road, I come home with all the dogs in the neighborhood following me. I didn't object to the dogs, but then people started following also, wanting to be friends, taking up my time, etc. Well, the author says I need to "get over myself". OK, ok. I'll try to be friendlier and stop hiding. (I didn't realize I had so many faults until I started reading this book.) But don't worry, he has great suggestions for making you "get over yourself".

A great book, well written and very inspiring and motivating. Something new on every page and so easy to absorb since it's laid out as a day by day plan.

My standards are apparently too high. I have to measure life coaches and business coaches against the late, great Dr. Leo Buscaglia inspirational, dynamic, eloquent, informed, scholarly, documented exhilarating. I grew up listening to his 1969 lecture to teachers in Pennsylvania over and over for years. I bought the books. We communicated by mail. As he often said Wow. Sadly, this book has none.

The book is basically a coaching almanac 365 days, each beginning with a trite, superficial quote ("Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much" Helen Keller), and an explanation and assignment below. Usually there is a fictional character who took the wrong path: "Jenny started reading this book a few months ago, but she stopped short at around day 20. Today she is not happy." Poor Jenny. She didn't drink the Kool-Aid.

The basic (unstated) message is that you are the CEO of your own private company, and you must take action every day, to get productivity out of the workforce you.

But instead of that statement, we get a year's worth of clichés, homilies, proverbs, childish precociousness and misguided direction. Follow it literally and you will be a wretched dysfunctional failure, totally out of sync with the world and unable to cope with the day to day necessities of life. But you will have a full, if useless journal to refer to. The book reads as if it had been written in six weeks. The author tosses off a few glib, simplistic, misguided instructions and directions and moves on to the next assignment. Too easy.

It provided one laugh, on the last day of the year, when it congratulated me for getting to Day 356. Pretty much sums it up.

Despite all the five star ratings, presumably from the author's many well-satisfied clients, I found the book totally uninspired and of no use.

Want Achieve Anything In Just One Year: Be Inspired Daily to Live Your Dreams and Accomplish Your Goals Discount?

Generally, I am not a fan of the genre of self-transformation books. When I read one, it is usually because there is nothing else in the waiting room. I end up feeling either as if Werner Erhard himself were trying to brainwash me or like the most cynical person on the planet, or both.

But I did look past the title and read through a few pages of "Achieve Anything in Just One Year" with Amazon's handy-dandy "Click to LOOK INSIDE" feature and liked what I saw well enough to read the whole thing. No, I didn't read it day-by-day at first because I'm just not that sort of person but I started over and am at least trying to do that.

The book is designed with daily assignments that require a bit of thought and introspection--it requires a little notebook to do this right--but even without giving the full commitment it asks for, it would be impossible not to gain at least a few helpful insights that would help improve your outlook and your life.

The exercises aid in grasping and using these concepts and if anything, they require one to be honest with one's self. I have even skipped a couple of days because I just didn't want to deal with those particular issues at the time.

Here's a typical example, from day 276: "Courage is like forgiveness. It is not something that you do only once, and it is not something that happens easily. It is a way of living and it requires practice." This is a simple statement of wisdom that might seem glib to some but most certainly is not. The accompanying exercise, in essence, is to think about some courageous people and then apply your thoughts about them to yourself. Simple but not easy!

The organization of the book and the quality of writing are both very good and the brevity of each day's exercise makes it very easy to incorporate this book into a daily routine. It would also be interesting to go through the entire book over the course of a year and then start over, going back to compare and look for changes in self-awareness.

The People's Pharmacy Quick and Handy Home Remedies: Q&As for Your Common AilmentsTHE PEOPLE'S PHARMACY:

Quick & Handy Home Remedies

(Q&As for your common ailments)

By: Joe and Terry Graedon

These are strange and frequently disturbing times, times when a source of entertainment frequently tells you the medicine your doctor wants you to "try" well there's a strong possibility it might kill you. Kill you, cause blindness, render skin rashes or heart stoppage.

This is not to say you should distrust your doctor or his medicines, but ideal, before you might meet an unfriendly medicine, you could encounter a home remedy, say an ounce of vinegar, soaking your raisins in sloe gin one which could keep you away from the medicine altogether. It was affirming when I learned my new doctor also takes the Joe and Terry Graedon's email newsletter.

The book is divided into three parts Home Remedies for specific ailments, Favorite Foods, and their nutritional bonuses and finally, Eating for Health.

The Joe and Terry Graedon are not physicians but scholars who hold graduate and doctoral degrees respectively. This book will compliment any family bookcase as a helpful guide to what ails you, when your complaint isn't life threatening.

Part I, (sample cases)

Complaint: Canker Sores -Aloe vera, baking soda, baking soda, buttermilk, green beans, kiwi, Mylanta even styptic pencil. They present a letter from a sufferer, and then they offer their response. It's valuable to hear the patient's complaints and helpful to be able to try some of the suggested solutions. They present instances from acne to wound card.

Complaint: Plantar Fasciitis, solutions using cherry juice, others using fish oil came in.

Complaint: Heartburn brought solutions from using almonds, baking soda, banana, broccoli even chewing gum.

Complaint: Nail Fungus was controlled with cornmeal, dandruff shampoo, hydrogen peroxide, iodine. Listerine, urine and Tea Tree Oil.

Second portion, Part I, Favorite Foods

From coffee through mustard, pineapple to hot peppers, cinnamon to cherries, they have chosen 24 in all. For instance, oolong tea has been helpful for fibromyalgia.

Part II: Fine a discussion on certain popular diets and some menu suggestions along with select recipes.

In these times when so many lack medical insurance, an investment in this book might be a good idea.

I have already had occasion to pull the book out twice and look for a home remedy (once for a burn and once for a leg cramp)...and both worked great! There are many things that happen in our daily lives that are annoying and/or painful, but do not merit a doctor's visit. This book is easy to use and great for these occurences!

I so enjoy this book. I've looked up so many helpful things that give good perspective. I deal with a heart condition (pacemaker), osteoporosis and cholesterol. So proper foods and natural treatments are vitally important to me.

I highly recommend this book to those who are interested in a natural approach to daily self-care.

A Palliative Ethic of Care: Clinical Wisdom at Life's End

A Palliative Ethic of Care: Clinical Wisdom at Life's EndIn A Palliative Ethic of Care: Clinical Wisdom at Life's End, Joseph J. Fins, MD, has written a timely and sage book whose readership is likely to include the clinician, the legal practioner, as well as the lay person. Dr. Fins addresses the history of palliative care in careful, measured tones, and he writes well. The book's greatest asset may be its respect for its subject, the dying, and Dr. Fins gives all concerned parties equal voice in his sensitive, yet instructive text on life's final moments. This book should be on the required reading list for everyone who has to address a loved one's (as well as their own) death.

I'll admit it, I've become an oddity: a clinically informed lay person regarding end-of-life matters. I breezed through APEOC, nodding knowingly at most of the scientific disease-state terminology. The point is, you can too. For the specific symptom is not as important as the thought process Fins shares with readers. That this book is written for med students means it's also for lay people, because it's at heart a process guide.

The only way citizens can manage hospitalization and/or end-of-life matters is through information. Prognosis is but one type of information. Also crucial is understanding how the institutions we're bedded in function. According to what precepts and roadmaps. APEOC is a roadmap into provider thoughts when treating the obviously dying.

Being a writer and reader on these topics, my antennae are up, and I picked up a problem statement toward the end. Paraphrasing, in regards to unaccompanied patients with written directives and a study citing that those directives were (more) often ignored, Fins failed to say the next logical (and required) thing: "so, med students, don't you ignore ADs in these instances." I cite this oversight because it's important to realize that even docs who orient themselves toward more humane clinical practices miss pitches. This, of course, is why there's something called "patient advocacy".

Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet with Style

Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet with StyleI was looking forward to reading this book after learning about it from some fashion magazine, but I unfortunately I have to agree with the other negative review on here. (I'm surprised there's only 1 so far!) I too am unsure what the other reviewers are raving about...

Here is the synopsis of the book:

Throw out or donate a lot of your clothes

Make a list of every clothing item you owe (who has time for this?!)

Go out and buy yourself a whole bunch of new clothes

Build your own shelves to organize your closet (I, for one, cannot build my own shelves)

The book re-hashes a lot of old/stale advice such as throwing out clothes you have not worn in a year, not using wire hangers, folding sweaters, not keeping your clothes in plastic from dry cleaners, etc. There are a few useful sections, such as advice on packing for a trip, and instructions on selling old clothes on Ebay (although nowadays it's almost impossible to sell clothes on Ebay unless they're designer duds for a deep discount price), but overall, this book was a waste of my time.

This book is surprisingly light on useful information. I only picked it up because of a feature in InStyle Makeover magazine. I was impressed by the little tidbits of information the book author provided. But the book itself was a HUGE disappointment. I expected to see more information on how to really make the most of your closet space, as well as restyling clothing and seeing your old clothes in a new light. It had almost zero content concerning truly 'shopping your closet'. I'm befuddled by the high reviews it makes me believe the reviewers are all friends of the author and therefore unobjective.

Save your money and purchase Closet Control by Barbra Horowitz instead. It's far more comprehensive and covers everything this book does and so much more. I found it in a bargain bin and if I'd realized it was superior before buying Shop Your Closet, I could have saved a lot of money.

Buy Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet with Style Now

I must admit I was rather disappointed after reading this book. I bought the book with the intention of the title "shopping my closet" and instead found the author going through giving the basics of organization of not just a closet but other household areas. While her writing style was light-hearted and fun, I wouldn't recommend this book if you are someone who feels they have a closet full of clothes, shoes and bags yet never the right thing to wear as this book does not help you with that. I would recommend The One Hundred by Nina Garcia or for a good organization book, Peter Walsh's books.

This book is fabulous for anyone that has been hoarding clothes and has lost track of what is in their closet or for anyone that has limited space. Melanie provides tips for organizing your closet in clear easy steps with pictures and diagrams and gives you the motivation and guide to stop procrastinating. I loved the tips for keeping clothes in their best condition and for travel. Her advice can easily be used in other areas of the home that need organizing also. Particularly her travel/packing tips are helpful, practical and realistic! I highly recommend it!

I really can't imagine what the reviewers who have given 5-star ratings are impressed with. There is nothing here but common sense. The tired old advice to go through your clothes and make three piles: keep, donate and throw out. Advice to get rid of lots of clothing, and decide what you need and go out and buy it. I had such high hopes for this book and kept reading, hoping to come up with something useful. There was one little piece of information that I hadn't heard: In order to make ironing easier, put your clothes to be ironed in the freezer so that they will pick up some moisture. This won't help me since I have about two square inches of free space in my freezer, but it may help someone.

Asian Faces: The Essential Beauty and Makeup Guide for Asian Women

Asian Faces: The Essential Beauty and Makeup Guide for Asian WomenI'm not usually one to buy books on makeup and beauty, etc. So, this is a first for me. The book truly embraces the beauty of Asian faces and is filled with gorgeous pictures. As someone who tends to stick with really simple and basic makeup applications, I've really been surprised at the results I've gotten from following the step-by-step and "down to earth" instructions.

Also, there are examples given for different kinds of faces and features (ie. eye makeup applications for those who have double lids and those who don't). It is a really empowering book for Asian women who have either tried to follow makeup instructions for Caucasian faces that usually don't work and/or had someone do your makeup who tried to make you look Caucasian instead of playing up your natural and beautiful Asian features.

After the superb reviews, I was really excited about this book but found it to be too basic and lacking in real information. For example, makeup basics section is mostly pictures of items (lipstick, lipliner, eyeliner) with a name of what it is underneath. There is a section on how to wash your face (1. splash warm water 2. lather in circular motion 3. rinse). The second part of the book is composed of picture of face on left and description of how it was done on the right but the description is written stepwise with breakdown like this--"1. use foundation 2. use highlighting foundation 3. use eye shadow at base 3. use eye liner 4. use mascara 5. use lipliner." There is nothing about how to apply to eye liner, how to apply to lipliner, the foundation, etc. I can't do the makeup in the pictures but I can definitely write this book. Save your money.

Buy Asian Faces: The Essential Beauty and Makeup Guide for Asian Women Now

I am a 27 year old woman of (probable) Korean ethnicity (I was adopted and whoever my birth parents were are untraceable). I grew up in a white family in a small hick town in PA where Asians were unheard of (lol, for ex. at age 15 a record store owner truly thought I was Yoko Ono, excitedly pointed to a poster of the Beatles/John Lennon and called all of the employees over to look at "John Lennon's wife in our town"! Another time, a 19 year old student told me, "Its so cool that I met you because now I can say I met a real life Asian, because before you came along I thought Asians only lived in the TV!")

My adoptive mom has never worn make up in her whole life even for her wedding!! Obviously, I was clueless about makeup, clueless regarding my appearance in general growing up. The time period was right before Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, and other beautiful Asian actresses began to appear in common media and grace the beauty ads of women's magazines.

I was very self conscious because I had no idea what I looked like, I know it sounds weird.. I used to search magazines and TV shows, to no avail.. Ppl told me I looked exactly like Yoko Ono/Connie Chung/and Lisa Ling of Channel One news (in High School). I didn't think I looked like any of them but I didn't know what I looked like either, so I was just confused.. I had no clue what to do about make up, so I pretty much ignored it, gaining names like pizza face because of horrible acne...

Anyway, sorry about the ramble...

I WISH I HAD A BOOK LIKE THIS GROWING UP. I am sure many other Asian women would have found this book as life changing as I would have.

In my early 20's, when I finally started gaining confidence about my looks, I bought every make up book that there was.. all of the Kevin Aucoiyn books were my favorites, because of the creativity, variety, limitless possibility, and stunning beauty of the images... I was stunned by the transformations done by makeup alone, and this is when I first began to view makeup as an art form.

I began to take pictures of myself experimenting with all different types of makeup looks. The only thing was, I could never understand why some of the looks would not work on me, and all of the ones that did I had to spend hours of confusion 'adapting' them to fit me, eyes especially. It was very frusterating to find looks that I loved, but couldn't figure out why they did not work, or looked completely different. I wondered if I was doing something wrong, or at more frusterating times, if something was just wrong w/ my face, if I was defective in some way, since the looks worked on my friends that I made up.

There are only 3 other books that have direct info for Asian women (Asian Beauty by Margaret ?, a small book by Jaceyln that took 6 weeks to arrive from Amazon, and Iman's Beauty of Color book). The first one disappointed me as far as the makeup tips went, but I thought it was nice for teenagers in situations like mine was because of the emphasis on Asians being beautiful too and the role models/famous Asian women... The 2nd one was a big disappointment it was so small and didn't have many looks at all. It labeled eyes into 4 categories, and the whole techniques revolved around trying to make a "double eyelid" look and by the end I had no idea what type of categories my eyes fell into, because they are very small but I do have a lid. Iman's, even though it was for all women of color, was the best of those because of the wide variety of looks, and truly celebrated all shades of women of color... The only thing was, since the book focused on many races, it wasn't directly presented to Asians of course, since that was not the aim of the book. I would highly recommend that title as well.

I was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY the moment I flipped through Asian Faces by Taylor Chang-Babaian. The photographs were stunning, and I had never in my life seen such a variety of Asian women. I'm definitely no longer a beginner by now, so typically the first section of makeup books (a breakdown of the various cosmetics and basics) never provides me w/ anything new. However, I found myself reading and re reading the sections on layering, eyeliner, contouring, and other basics that she shed new light upon.. it was finally like the light bulb in my head clicked on, and every Asian adaptation of looks made sense. (the eyeliner close to the lashes was something I always thought was essential, I had a photo shoot once where the make up artist said that was wrong but I felt in my heart I looked better w/ it.. Taylor confirmed I was right after all!) Total beginners will find the first part of the book easy to follow, and advanced makeup artists will find tons of inspiration (and probably learn quite a few new tricks as well!!)

I LOVE how Taylor displays endless creativity in her looks... the gorgeous full size pictures make some of the looks seem complex, but on the other side of the page she breaks everything down into steps, w/ an intensive focus paired w/ a close up picture of the more complex techniques. It is the morst thorough examination of the looks and best system of explaining the steps in any make up book I've ever seen!

I also love how she puts the focus on the variety and beauty and art of makeup merging w/ her models, as opposed to focusing on "how to make a double eyelid" or other tips that might as well be saying, "how to make your eyes look less Asian".. or other things that make you feel flawed to be Asian. Instead, she celebrates the diversity of the many Asian women of the world.

The book has seemingly endless looks, format being similar to Making Faces or Face Forward in the looks section which is divided into :

Day, Evening, Cities (such as looks of LA or NYC), Period Looks (I LOVED this section.. I never realized these looks that I admired so much but was unable to adapt in Kevyn's books were even possible for Asian women, until now!), Special Occasion, and Costume.

FINALLY, I can try every look out of a book directly from the instructions, instead of spending frusterating hours attempting to adapt looks that usually never looked the same or don't work on me at all. This book exceeded anything I could ever imagine. I did a 1920's period look last night for the first time ever w/ no makeup remover involved! The days of irritated red eyelids from rubbing off products over and over, the nights of being the latest one out for a night on the town because my special night out makeup took an hour longer than the other girls... Those times are over!!

My only complaint is, I wish this book would have existed 12 years ago, and there better be more.. many many more from this groundbreaking author!

I like this book. The previous reviewer who said it was like an Asian version of Kevin's Making Faces book was spot on. This book thankfully covers different types of Asians. I wish that it had more on cool and warm tones and color theory though. Overall nice book I would love to see an updated version and maybe a little more on the history of Asian make up. That would be really nice.

Enjoy the video. Sorry it is out of focus.

I have mono-lids, meaning no crease on my eyes. Most make-up advice in magazines have tips on eye make-up involving people with deeper set eyes and creases, all which don't apply to me. I bought this book hoping to learn techniques that work with my eyes, but the only one it offered was a basic sweep of one color of eye shadow just above the eyes something I had already accomplished the first time I put on make-up.

At least it includes great advice on color choices for cheeks, eyes, face, etc. I went out and bought brown eye shadows in gold, dark brown, and taupe upon this book's recommendation and it has worked well in giving me a natural, but polished look.

It's so easy to follow, and so quick I'm done in 15 minutes and on to the rest of my day. There's no stress on me to take 15 minutes a day to spend on my body. I can easily spend this much time experimenting with a new lipstick color. Everybody can find 15 minutes to exercise!

There are 4 different workouts and the variety keeps things interesting. The format is the same for each one: You warm up for 3 minutes, do 10 minutes of a really good routine strength training plus heart-pumping intervals and then cool down for 2 minutes with full-body stretches that remind me of Yoga. You can do it at home with just one set of dumb bells or a fitness ball.

And it's not just for women. My husband could do this and should do it! He thinks that if you can't spend 4 hours working out it's not worth it; but that's overwhelming, so he doesn't do anything. The 15 minute workout is a good way to get started and be consistent. You can always add on and do more...

Many people do not have time to go to a gym or do not like the gym-atmosphere. This book has the solution to these problems. Instead of trekking to the gym three times a week, spending the money on gas, this book enables you to work out in the comfort of your home. Pagano, a personal trainer for more than 20 years, starts the book by introducing basic principles of fitness, including the healthy range of bodies, the BMI, fitness testing and the benefits of cardiovascular fitness.

This easy-to-read book is very colorful, filled with glossy pictures. In order to exercise the whole body, various exercises are introduced that target specific parts of the body. Each pose or move is artfully demonstrated using an actual photograph. Hence, those using this book have a clear visual of the expected pose and chances of error are lessened.

The author also provides short descriptions of the procedure so that those moves not demonstrated in the photographs can also be executed. A live action DVD is also included in this book, making it even easier to follow the steps. The best part of the exercise regimen is the fact that not many types of equipment are required to get the full effect. A body ball, two dumbbells and a mat is all that is needed.

This book will enable anybody to get real results without leaving the comfort of their home. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting a more healthy and fit lifestyle.

I have a huge collection of exercise videos, and this dvd-book combo has got to be the most effective one that I own. Each unique 15 minute segment is superbly crafted into a cardio and weight training combo. I feel that, at last, I am doing exercises correctly with the proper form. The production quality of the dvd and book is excellent. I have been alternating these exercises with Alycea Ungaro's "15 Minute Everyday Pilates" which I also highly recommend.

I am a woman in my 70s who has fortunately discovered this remarkable exercise book, The 15-Minute Total Body Workout. While I do own other exercise books, I find Joan Pagano's current publication of greatest value to me. The included DVD makes it easy to follow each routine. Starting slowly, I've now used the first section, Step-Touch, for two weeks, alternating it with twice a week exercise sessions at my local senior center. Now I'm ready to become familiar with the other routines.

In addition to the DVD, each section in this flexible book offers wonderful photographs for easy-to-follow moves. For all senior citizens interested in staying fit, let this become your exercise Bible, as it's becoming mine. What 15 minutes of exercise can do to enhance your energy level is truly remarkable.

I am 24 years old and looking to get in shape for my sister's wedding this spring. I wasn't looking to lose weight, but to tone. I want to have nice, defined arms and a taught tummy for her big day!

This book/dvd is awesome. It can be done in your living room with 2 sets of weights and a medicine ball. I was skeptical about a 15 minute workout and how much I would feel, but you sweat! I normally do 2 15-minute workouts at a time and end up huffing and puffing by the end. But it's not like the other 8-minute workouts where the first 2 minutes aren't bad and then the last 6 are impossible. It is done at an even pace that is manageable throughout all 15 minutes. And you cover it all: you warm up, do cardio, do weights, and cool down.

The voice-over on the DVD is great. She tells you how to do it, what your other body parts should be doing/feeling, how to breath, where you should feel it, and how to slow it down or speed it up depending on your comfort level. The video also references the page the move is on in the book so you can look it up if you are having difficulties with it.

I'm really glad to have this book/dvd. It isn't too time consuming or too much of a hassle to do, but yet you feel it and notice a difference. I've been doing it for a month and people have already commented on my newly trimmed hips. I highly recommend this book for all ages and all levels of fitness. You won't be disappointed.

Collins Gem First Aid

Collins Gem First AidThere is NO use having a complete First Aid manual, sitting on your bookshelf, when accidents happen around your car, at work, at the beach etc. and not by your bookshelf.

The Collins First Aid book is tiny enough that you can actually have it around for an emergency. I put one in the car, one in the backpack that I carry around with my toddler, and one at home by the phone. Its diminutive size means that a woman can easily keep it in a purse, or a man in a larger organizer.

I BUILD FIRST AID KITS FOR FRIENDS. THEY MAKE EXCELLANT GIFTS. I ALWAYS INCLUDE A COPY OF THIS BOOK. WHAT GOOD IS THE KIT IF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO USE IT DON'T HAVE A REFERENCE SOURCE. FOR IT'S SIZE, IT IS CRAMMED WITH AN AWESOME AMOUNT OF INFORMATION. THE BOOK IS SMALL ENOUGH TO NEVER BE LEFT BEHIND IF GOING ON A DAY HIKE. YOU CAN ACTUALLY FORGET YOU'RE CARRYING IT. I TRY TO KEEP A COUPLE OF COPIES OF THIS BOOK ON HAND. IT IS SIMPLY THE BEST BASIC FIRST AID BOOK ON THE MARKET.

I purchased more than one of these. The books are ideal for putting into your first aid kit, and I keep the other in the car.
