Cannibal Fat Camp

Cannibal Fat CampThe cover of this book is great, an obvious homage to GARBAGE PAIL KIDS, and it delivers on the image. It really delivers. If you want some gory, hilarious fun, pick this up. The cover really says it all. And as a chubby guy, the fat humor is luckily done in a way that doesn't really offend, but celebrates in a black humor way. I strangely got hungry often while reading the book.

The best part about CANNIBAL FAT CAMP is the prose and structure of the narrative. Clever devices like forms, letters, and reports help deliver the story in a fresh, hip way. With a huge amount of buildup, we don't see any deaths until 1/3 the way through, which is a huge strength here. There is nothing supernatural about FAT CAMP, it could realistically happen, and the deliberate pace and build up form a real world around the reader. The writing on display here is really wonderful.

It feels mildly like a love-letter to William Golding's LORD OF THE FLIES, but never overtly so. It definitely has its own unique vision, ad the tale is told in a confident way. By virtue of the name alone, you get the idea that CANNIBAL FAT CAMP will eventually have some campers dying, and probably going insane. This delivers.

Camp Tum Tum is an exclusive weight loss camp for the rich and famous parents of the world (to send their kids too). It is on a deserted desert island, that, after you again read the title, you as the reader will "gulp" when you realize how remote it is. You know carnage is coming! FAT CAMP uses the simple one two set up. Step one, they set you up with a great backdrop for the story. Step two, they knock it out of the park and deliver all the gore and madness you would expect from a cover/title like this!

Add in a killer ending, and I give this 5/5 burgers with cheese and onion. Hold the veggies.

If you're undecided what to order off the horror menu, might I suggest Cannibal Fat Camp? It's a tasty morsel of outlandish humor blended with deep rich horror guaranteed to satisfy and not overstuff.

Fat is a four letter word. A group of overweight teens head off to an island in hopes of shedding a few pounds at an eight week fat camp. Through an unfortunate event, the kids find themselves without adult supervision. Hormones rage amongst rumbling stomachs as a leader emerges and takes control. The once benevolent king quickly becomes a ruthless dictator. It's survival of the fattest as finding food becomes a daily struggle.

Bram Stoker Award nominee Mark C. Scioneaux and award-winning writer/actor/filmmaker/college professor/pro wrestler and all around hack David C. Hayes join together to create one fun tale of meaty madness.

If your kid comes back from fat camp and tells you he wants to have a friend over for lunch, ask a few specific questions what they might have in mind . . . just so there won't be any unwanted surprises. Come get you some 5 star fun right here!

17 year old Miles had a problem. A huge problem. He was morbidly overweight and could not control his eating. After getting in trouble AGAIN for stealing his classmates' lunches, he had a choice: go to Camp TumTum and get his eating problem under control, or face expulsion. Feeling a bit hopeless, he agreed to see the doctor to be recommended for the camp. After meeting the once obese but now athletic and perfect counselor, he was looking forward to going to the posh resort-like camp hidden away on a secluded tropical island. On his second day at camp, he and the other campers found themselves alone when all of the counselors died from drinking poisoned protein shakes. In a panic, the campers stress ate all of the camp's food, leaving them to find a way to survive until they were rescued. Some campers had other plans.

I loved this book and flew through it quickly. The characters were great! It was interesting to delve into the psyche of Miles. I wanted him to succeed! Charles was by far the most twisted character I've read in a while. Jenny was kind and smart, the perfect person to save these kids, but the right thing doesn't always happen. I loved learning parts of the experience from journal entries and letters home.

The writing was excellent. The transition between journal entries and regular text was seamless. The doctor's report was hilariously offensive and made me wonder what doctors REALLY put in reports of these types! The adult characters in this book were as unique and the children, making the entire story flow nicely. This book has two authors, and I couldn't tell where one left off and the other began. I love that!

The violence and gore. Oh yes, this book has that in abundance! A veritable buffet of insanity, guts, blood and sex! Those scenes were very descriptive and lived through the horror with these kids, albeit with an adult thought process (which included me adding a lot of WTF's and OMG's out loud. My only gripe with this book, and it's really not a big one, was that I didn't get to "see" the final battle play out. I think that scene would have been better if it wasn't done as a newspaper article, although the article was quite interesting.

The ending. Oh my! I didn't see that coming! I closed that book...er shut off my kindle... with a grin. I can see no more perfect ending than that! All in all, AMAZING book!

This book was grotesquely entertaining. I read a previous review that said that it was reminiscent of Lord of the Flies and I agree. I thought that through out the story. In a fantastic way. It was well written, well paced and a freakishly fun read. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I read it because, from the beginning, I thought that the story was going to go in a different direction. I was surprised by the ending, which I adore and pretty rarely happens to me like this. I kind of want to see a follow up where Miles starts his own Fat Camp...

The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You

The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to YouI lived blissfully unaware of just how bad so many of our products are until my youngest was born and we discovered he had vicious allergies and asthma right from the start. It took going through a lot of doctors to find anyone even remotely interested in finding the problem instead of just masking symptoms with chemical creams and steroids. And this was back before allergens had to be clearly listed on labels. I spent countless sleepless nights on research and turning my house and our lives upside down trying to rid our house of as much crap as I could. My friends and family thought I was going nuts and OCD -I probably was!but I was really just a mom looking to give my baby boy some relief and had virtually no one to help me. As I read The Honest Life, all I keep thinking was "If only this book and brand existed 10 years ago!!" The sanity, sleep, frustration, and tears it would have saved me!!

Whether you're invested in doing a whole lifestyle change or just looking for some clean products and tips on how to cut chemical and toxin exposure from your life a little bit, definitely read this book. Even if you already know most of the information, it's filled with Jessica's personal tips, tricks, and suggestions, which can be helpful for anyone.

You also don't have to join a hippie commune in order to make substantial changes. Jessica herself admits on page one she eats meat, doesn't have time for cloth diapers, and doesn't grow her own food. She and her husband even eat and love bacon. You'll be amazed how simple most changes are. She does admit that she has the money to eat completely organic and buy the crazy expensive Eco-friendly chemical free crib mattresses, but understands that most people don't. (Thank you!!)

Jessica explains that this is her way of natural living. It may not be for everyone. But everyone CAN get some very useful information from this book. It's up to you what you choose to do with it. "No judgement! No guilt!"

The breakdown of book:

Introduction Jessica explains how it all started for her even though signs had been there all along (allergies, always getting sick and serial bouts of pneumonia, etc), all it took was a reaction to the fragrance in laundry detergent to open up the floodgates for her. Fans of Alba will find this interesting, too, as she discusses some of her early years. She also debunks the ever-frustrating rebuttal of "But we used that when we were kids and we're fine!" (Again, thank you!)

Chapter 1 Food: The basics of what eating "honest" is, what her diet entails, eating as local as possible (with some very useful links on how to), foods that are the highest in pesticide absorption, foods that resist pesticides the best, the basic lowdown about GMO's, tips on how to eat certain foods and what eating seasonally entails, cooking tips, snack ideas (especially for kids!), and the bads of plastics. She also touches on party ideas and even the subject of weight loss. Newcomers will gain a lot of helpful information and tips from this chapter, making it feel much less overwhelming. Just remember, this is Jessica's way of living. My family doesn't eat nuts or tofu (soy), but she does and so do millions of others. It's okay to pick what doesn't work for you.

Chapter 2 Personal Clean Care: Jessica states, "One hundred percent of women of childbearing age have detectable levels of phthalates in their system probably due to cosmetic use." Don't buy into "hypoallergenic", "fragrance free" and "green" claims they're still too often loaded with chemicals. And you don't have to have allergies, rashes, or rashes to be effected. These chemicals are linked to all sorts of things from hormone imbalances to cancer. Jessica helps break down how to find the safe products. Yes, she has her own product line. But she's not pushing it on you. She clearly states there are other brands and all-natural products at your disposal. This chapter was incredibly helpful for me because, even after years of research, food has become easy, but hygiene products are still a challenge.

Chapter 3 Make up & Beauty: Even more helpful for me than chapter 2 because safe makeup is even harder to come by and even more difficult for women to give up. Jessica breaks down the good, the bad, the ugly, and what your safe options are.

Chapter 4 Personal Style: This chapter is less on chemicals and toxins and more on Jessica's personal style and how she picks what makes her feel happy and comfortable in her own skin. It's a fun, light chapter and will appeal to Jessica's fans much more than those reading just for clean living tips. It does touch on dry cleaning.

Chapter 5 Your Home's Style: It's about finding a style for your home that is both minimalist and stylish, which can often be tricky. But, it offers information on safer products like carpets and paint, too. Go for real wood (vintage is even better) over fiberboard because of the difference in off gassing... It's impossible to keep everything in your home completely free of gasses. But simple tips like this can make a big difference. She breaks down the basics on how to get the toxins out and keep them out. She also offers basic DIY cleaner recipes that anyone can do. You'd be amazed at what you can do with some vinegar, baking soda, and lemons. And, surprise! They actually work!

Chapter 6 The Baby Chapter: prepare for parenthood without losing yourself. How to take care of yourself mentally and physically, and how to gently prepare your home and nursery for your expanding family. She offers her own parenting tips and advice. It also goes into diaper options and what to do if breast feeding isn't working. And then we have the dreaded lead-in-toys issue. She even touches on how to pack and travel with kids! Very helpful, especially for new parents.

Chapter 7 Inspiration: Who doesn't need a little inspiration from time to time?! This chapter reminds you that life can get heavy and weigh you down if you don't remember to have a little fun and take time to enjoy life. How to find balance, dinner parties, make your own pizza nights, recipes for sweet treats, nontoxic art supplies, make a fun outdoor playhouse or a wall garden... She also offers a list of her top "10 Essentials for An Honest Life" which I think are simple, but absolutely brilliant and spot on.

Chapter 8 Details!: Resources!!! There's nothing worse than people who preach, preach, preach, but offer no verbs on HOW to do what they're preaching. This chapter is full of pages and PAGES of links to helpful information, products, and some just light-hearted and fun. More pages of links for where to shop and brands that offer safe alternatives. It breaks down chapter by chapter what was covered, what to do, and where you can find help, information, and safe products. Honestly, if this book could only be one chapter, it would have to be this one. Worth it just for this list of resources alone!

This book is so much more than just information on ridding toxins, it's about simplifying all aspects of your life to create a peaceful, happy, healthy, and inspired environment for you and your family. If you're starting a whole life overhaul, this won't be the only book you'll ever use, but it's a great start full of all the basics. If you're just looking for a few tips on natural living, you'll find more than enough to pick through here. Ad if you're just a fan of Jessica, you'll like it, too, as it's got personal pictures and some details and stories from her personal life.

I'm so happy to see Jessica using her celebrity to do something so helpful for people and so positive. Read her blog or use her products if you want or don't, but I highly recommend reading The Honest Life to everyone.

I received The Honest Life after a long, busy day. It was like a cup of tea and a spark of encouragement from a friend. Jessica touches the issues of a modern, healthy life with style and grace. The design and imagery of the book left me feeling at home and in comfort. Lots of great tips and info. It's a nice book to come home to...

The Honest Life, by actress and mom Jessica Alba, is a book written out of her passion to provide a safe environment for her daughter before she was born. The Honest Life is for anyone who cares about providing their children and themselves with a healthy lifestyle.

Alba was pregnant with her first child and had asked her mom for a recommendation for baby detergent. She took her mom's advice and started cleaning clothes...only to discover she was breaking out in hives from it! Alba discovered it contained some nasty chemicals...and although her mom at used it on her as a child, research revealed that many of the products we used as children now contain new, untested chemicals. (Just a note: a major detergent just had to change its formula when it was discovered that one of the chemicals in it was carcinogenic.)

That's right--we have 1000's of products with chemicals that have been untested (never mind the result of combining chemicals). What is a consumer to do?

Alba set out to find the safest goods...along the way found out the companies "greenwash"--that while the worlds "natural" appear, many products are anything but.

Along the way, she created a green company call The Honest Company.

This book is what she learned along the way.

As an eco-friendly designer, I love to keep current on what is out there, and this book is terrific--especially for mothers who don't want to expose their children to harmful chemicals.

Alba begins with a chapter on food--which is clearly a passion of hers, as she loves to cook and eat. In it, she provides a blueprint for eating whole, seasonal, organic ,local food--or the safest alternatives. ...nothing groundbreaking if you know this stuff; for the newbie, invaluable. She also includes nice recipes.

Subsequent chapters includes tips for buying safe personal hygiene and makeup. Here she shows how companies try to fool you and directs us to safe choices.

There is a chapter on decorating and cleaning your home in an eco-friendly way. Next, a chapter on the safest products for your baby.

Finally, there is a chapter on resources which is very helpful.

Alba's approach is not to freak you out, but to introduce the reader to healthy, natural, fun products...products that are safe for you and the environment. She concedes she isn't perfect and understands that not everyone has the money to buy all organic, for instance. But she provides the reader/consumer with the tools to understand how to make the best choices.

If this book gets you hungry to learn more about green housekeeping, Home Enlightenment is a good source; for green living and a beautiful home, I recommend Harmonious Environment.

Recommend.

I wasnt sure what to expect from a book written by a celebrity and so far I am greatly pleased. Jessica Alba comes across as very down to earth and in touch with the world in a way that most average familes are. I am not even done reading her book (on page 22) but already find it very informative, helpful and interesing. I have only begun to recently educate myself on healthful eating and using products that are phalate and paraben free etc, so this book just helped confirm my efforts and gives me more information to continue my quest to keep my family safe and free of unwanted surprises in what we eat and use. I am waiting for a cookbook from her now! Although most of her recipes are simple and fresh I sure wouldnt mind it if she condensed your ideas and family favorites in a cookbook. I love this book! It will not be in a yardsale, its a keeper! I will recommend it to family and friends!

Halfway Home

Halfway HomeRonan's first academic music teacher suggested that he learn a certain song for a national competition even though he wasn't quite ready for that song yet. Ronan not only agreed but confidently declared that she would see him win the Tenor section of the competition! Veronica Dunn replied, "There's no holding you back."

I felt that her remark was just right to serve as a very incisive expression of Ronan's chief character trait as expressed in his autobiography. Seemingly he was born with extraordinary portions of confidence, determination, and drive--a fortunate circumstance since he was also born with a physical disability, focamelia, that kept him from fulfilling his exceeding drive for physical freedom and independence. Speaking of his first singing performance which occurred when he was a boy, at Christmastime, (his first publicly performed song being, just for the record, "Mary's Boy Child"), Ronan says "As I stepped from that small stage onto myriad and greater stages in my life, I would carry with me both the love from the crowd and my own insatiable hunger to move freely and in my own way out into the world."

Despite some setbacks, and often while enduring an amazing amount of physical pain, he went forth into the world to become a winner in the field of Paralympic sport where he broke 14 world records and won 18 gold medals; he worked for a time in the prosthetics industry where he helped improve the quality of prosthetics; he became a medical doctor with special interests in various fields; and, of course, he eventually decided that his real vocation was singing. From a young age his urge to sing gave him pleasure in a way that was akin to his general underlying urge to push through to physical freedom by whatever means; and so just as he pushed himself by means of walking, bicycling, running, and horseback riding, he also worked at exercising his voice--even before he knew his vocation was singing. (Later, during his university studies, he exercised his voice a lot in pubs where I wouldn't wonder that he achieved the world's record for greatest number of times singing "Danny Boy." And probably, ten years now since this edition of his autobiography first came out, judging from the frequent joy he took before, I'd guess that he still tends to enjoy exercising in pubs whenever he can...)

Not until about two-thirds of the way through his book does Ronan begin to describe his musical vocation. It did seem to me that the narrative at that point took on a greater energy and vitality. Nevertheless, I found the entire book to be lively and interesting, sometimes outright funny. There are chapters about his childhood and about his school experiences; chapters about his career in prosthetics and in medicine; there is the story about how her served in New York at the time of the 9/11 tragedy for America. He tells incidents about his love affairs; incidents about his delighted experiences with horses; incidents about good friends; and more. Throughout his story, he mentions numerous occasions when he sent up prayers for help in challenging circumstances, and he says God always responded and helped him at those time.

This is very much a book about Ronan's family life, the particular closeness of his relationships with his Mom and Dad and his brother and sister, Tom and Fiona. His Dad proved always an especially supportive person for him. Although he went through a time of finding his Mom's personality irritating, he appreciated her determination and drive, which he surely seems to have inherited. From his birth, she was determined that Ronan would someday walk. In retrospect, he came to appreciate better some of his mother's motives.

I think the book makes a good companion-piece for the album of songs entitled "Ronan," for you do see here how some of the songs in that album express aspects of his life history and his character. In the book, Ronan sometimes uses the expression "over the moon" to describe his feelings of joyful excitement about certain accomplishments and I was reminded of the album song entitled "Ready to Fly." Also on that album one finds the songs he wrote about his Mom and Dad.

Reading about Ronan's singing career and his encounters with outstanding singers was really the crowning enjoyment for me of the book. And anyone who is a singer could surely glean some useful tips and advice here.

In one of his early competitions, although he didn't demonstrate great technical advancement, Ronan was chosen the winner because the judge valued his singing as having "heart" and "showing greatest potential." Again, in that designation by a maestro, the word "heart" seems to me to be an incisive, exactly right recognition of one of Ronan Tynan's most outstanding traits as a singer.

Hopefully, appreciators of Tynan will have the pleasure of reading the other half of his journey "home" someday.

Milk-Based Soaps: Making Natural, Skin-Nourishing Soap

Milk-Based Soaps: Making Natural, Skin-Nourishing SoapIf you are an inexperienced soapmaker and you read this book, I think it is probably going to scare you to death. You'll drop the book and run away screaming and never give another instant of thought to making milk soaps. MILK-BASED SOAPS was an informative book and I feel that it taught me some useful things (I have my own soapmaking business), but I was making goats' milk soaps long before I read this book and it just isn't as hard as she makes it sound, I promise.

I was really, really puzzled by Makela's instruction to cool the milk/lye mixture down to 80 degrees F while having the fats/oils at 120 degrees F and THEN mixing the two together. She says in the book that the milk/lye mixture will want to keep separating and falling to the bottom of the pot while you stir -there's a reason for that, you know. It's because there is not enough 'synergy' between these two substances that are being combined at such wildly disparate temperatures. You know what? I bring my milk/lye mixture and my fats/oils mixture both to 110 degrees F for a 6 pound batch of soap and I have NEVER had any trouble. And I do NOT use all the multiple pots and blenders to scoop the raw soap back and forth, etc. I use one heavy stainless steel pot, one sturdy plastic Rubbermaid pitcher for the lye/milk and one stick blender. This does not have to be a group effort. Makela tends to make this sound as if you need a tag team of willing friends dressed in Haz-Mat suits standing at the ready to assist you in your time of need.

Truly. I make this soap all by myself. I do it all the time. It only has to be a big hairy deal if you intentionally make it that way.

One part where Makela is dead-on right is when she says to put the milk (in its pitcher) into a cold bath -I stop up one side of my sink and add cool water and ice cubes -and then pour the lye flakes slo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-owly into the milk. She is correct when she says that this should be AT LEAST a fifteen minute process, which is one of the reasons why I charge more for my goats' milk soaps. I owe Makela a thanks for the cool water bath idea -it's a great one and I have never had trouble with the goats' milk overheating since I've done that. I appreciate that advice immensely. When you stir rhythmically, add the lye slowly and keep the milk nice and cool, you'll always have a sunny yellow milk/lye mixture that will easily combine with the fats and oils to make a really beautiful, creamy, buttery beige-colored soap.

There were some nice recipes in this book and some worthy advice for marketing your handcrafted creations. All in all, it was a good book. Buy it -and don't let yourself be intimidated by what is not really a difficult process at all.

This is one of the better books I've read so far. The recipes are large, but the first few batches you make will probably be given away, so these are big enough for you to keep some as well as give away.

The history given is helpful, it was a pleasure to read. As for the methods she uses with the blender, it is alot of work, but it is faster than stirring by hand. Personally, I use my stick blender, less work all around.

It is not nessasary to use palm or coconut oils in soap, and they aren't even the base for all soaps as another reviewer wrote. My best soaps have olive oil as the base and no coconut or palm at all.

Milk soaps aren't for someone completely new to soapmaking.. try making basic soaps first. The recipes are all over the internet, but this book is easy enough to follow that someone who has been making soaps for a month or two will have no problems following it. Actually someone who has never made soap would be able to follow it, but a little experience before trying something that is tricky like milk soaps, wouldn't hurt.

Overall, for the money spent this book is worth it. Much more detailed and well thought out than another soapmaking book I read recently.

Buy Milk-Based Soaps: Making Natural, Skin-Nourishing Soap Now

The recipes are good, but too many of my questions remain unanswered (and I have been making soap for 10 years). Like why put so little honey in the honey and milk soap? And why is sugar an ingredient in the basic recipe? What purpose does it serve? What is the purpose of encouraging experimentation and then not giving enough information to experiment wisely? She says to do something or not do something without giving specific reasons all too often.

I learned to make soap from Carla Emory's book, _Encylopedea of Country Living_ and the information there was much more sketchy than this. Still, I like it better in that it is at least sharing all it knows, while I feel the author of this little book is holding back what might well be the most vital information.

I like some of her ideas but I'm not sure it was worth the money. I suppose the method of handling the milk was worth it though as to make milk soap was why I bought it.

I liked Caseys recipes but..it was almost tiring just reading her instructions,like...start with this pan, then put the mixture in that pan...then stir both pans at the same time.I make and mix my soap in one pan,it's really not that difficult.I agree with another reviewer who said it does'nt have to be a team effort. The best soapmaking book I have ever bought is "The Everything Soapmaking Book" by Alicia Grosso. This book has all the information you will ever need to make really beautiful handmade soap.

Want Milk-Based Soaps: Making Natural, Skin-Nourishing Soap Discount?

If you have a degree in chemistry and feel comfortable working in a laborary environment this is a good book for you. I have found making milk-based soaps easy and fun but not as a result of Makela's book, which makes it seem intimidating, time staking and well, down right confusing. If you crave simplicity pass on this soapmaking book.

Detox Box

Detox BoxWhen I first received "Detox in a Box" I was disappointed because the program is based on a plan that requires the procurement of over $100 worth of supplements. However, after listening to the introduction CD I decided that $12.00 to $15.00 per day was a worthwhile investment if it meant saying good-bye to my miserable state of mind. I originally intended to do the 7-day program, but found that it was so easy to follow and I felt so great that I followed the plan for 21 days. I lost over 15 pounds and feel terrific. As a result of this program, I have made major adjustments to my diet. This is not a "quick start" program; after you receive the materials at least a week of preparation is required Keep in mind that it is well worth it! In addition to "Detox in a Box", I also recommend, "Breaking the Food Seduction".

6 25 06 I did The Detox Box program about 60 days ago and wanted to let a little time pass before I commented--. I loved it!!!

I went with all of Dr. Hyman's suggested `favorite' supplements.

Yes, it was expensive and some what time consuming, but I feel it was so very worth it.

It helped me kick the intense sugar, white flour and caffeine addictions that had hold of me. This is extremely miraculous for me and I am so very thankful to God I found this program.

Here are some of sources (showing costs) that I used. Once I made the decision to do the detox I was in a rush to get all these things in fast and in some cases I paid more in shipping charges as a result.

I even had to get a blender (our other one bit the dust a few years ago) but it is a good thing I did because since the detox I have kept up with the morning shake several times a week. On the detox the hardest part, but doable, was getting down the Bentonite Clay and the Psyllium. I did the program pretty close to prescribed and have since kept up with eating more Brown Rice, Fish, Veggies and with drinking more water and Herbal Teas.

I think giving up that morning coffee was really helpful for me both with controlling my evening sugar cravings and improving my joint pain. Lost about 10 lbs so far and plan on losing more really feeling more energy and joy.

Check Amazon.com for all the `program' products as well. I really appreciate Amazon and the users who wrote reviews on this product. I hope I can encourage someone to try The Detox Box. Hopefully you will share my success with it. I have about 100 self help health books (including Mark Hyman's other books) and so far this one has been the catalyst to give the others possibility!

I love this detox box. The information you need is written very clearly, and you won't have any trouble following the program. When I first got on the program, I had a tough time "downing" the vitamin C, bentonite clay and psyllium. But I felt so great after just 4 days, it was worth it. The shake is actually very good, and the rest of the food you are supposed to eat is everyday healthy organic vegetables and fish and brown rice.

You can get very creative with the spices recommended and make each meal really flavorful.

I like to detox every few months, especially after a vacation or holiday week of eating and drinking too much. Not only do I lose 4-5 lbs in 5 days, my skin looks more radiant and I feel like I look younger! I'm 47 and my skin is starting to wrinkle. The detoxing makes my skin tighter and smoother...a side benefit I was not expecting. The products cost about $250, but lasts a long time. You can get most of the products at an organic grocery store (Whole Foods/Wild Oats). Or of course at a special pharmacy and on-line. Thank you Dr. Mark Hyman for this wonderful program.

When I first looked at what was required and the flax seed stuff never tried before, I thought this is for the birds! But I weighed 235 pound on May 10th and my blood pressure tested by the doctor and at home was consistently 150/110. Today is May 18th and my weight is 219 pounds and my blood pressure has been for the last 3 days 120/80. I'm only going to continue the detox for up to 14 days. I will be following the advice of this doctor from now on. My HMO doctors did not know what to do.

OK.... No one would beleive this. My husband and I went on Dr. Hyman's diet for 2 weeks. I lost 8-10 lbs. My husband lost 12 lbs. We eat lots of food and it is ALL healthy.

Now for the amazing part. My son has Down Syndrome and severe respiratory problems. I looked into the side of allergies for him through Dr, Hyman's ideas. I actually make shakes out of the same food that my husband and myself eat. My son hardly has the congestion that he once had. We believe that gluten and other horrible had created his health problems.

In the past we have brought him to many specialists: pulmonologists, cardiac specialists, allergists and on and on.

He was on so many antibiotics and other steroids. I thought I would loose my precious son to a horrible fate.

We work closely with this diet for him. It has been successful for allergies, which he probably had/has which never showed up with any allergy testing we had in the past.

I am delited, please try this book.

Folk Medicine: A New England Almanac of Natural Health Care from a Noted Vermont Country Doctor

Folk Medicine: A New England Almanac of Natural Health Care from a Noted Vermont Country DoctorI read this book a number of years ago and took the advise of Dr. Jarvis. I have been taking a combination of Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey for over 10 years now and have not been sick at all. I credit taking this mixture for my good health.

My mother used many of Dr. Jarvis' remedies with me when I was a child. They worked. We also used traditional medicine of course, but often came back to the folk remedies when the medical remedies didn't work or the doctors had no answer. In turn I used these remedies with my own family--and now with clients who come for help with holistic approaches to healing. I recommend the book to people who are well and want to stay that way, and to those who are ill, have no insurance, and no money for high priced drugs, even if they had the money to go to doctors. No, these remedies will not--and should not--replace western medical care in serious situations, but they will definitely help reduce the number of doctor's visits for non-critical illnesses. I recommend Dr. Jarvis' book because I have forty years of successful experiences with it. He was way ahead of his time.

Dr. Jarvis has only the best credentials. In this day and age of New Millennium drugs, he promotes the use of such innocent items as apple cider vinegar, royal jelly, and honey. I have not tried all the remedies in the book because they cover too broad a spectrum of ailments, discomforts and inconveniences. But he has been right on target for migraines, age spots, and more! My aunt is beginning his regimen to cure arthritis. I give the book 4 stars instead of 5 only because I cannot begin to prove the effectiveness of his entire household medicine bag.

Although i am not a medical professional, i have always been intreged by the natural healing properties of our bodies and the earth. I don't have much to back up ALL of Doctor Jarvis's research EXCEPT for 1. The Apple Cider Vinegar claim. I was stricken with a horrible case of Adult Acne in which i tried every product and even went to a dermatologist who just shoved chemicals in my face and told me to take some awful pillstelling me that it would only get worse b4 it got better. (which it did.) so I stopped EVERYTHING and began putting Apple Cider Vinegar on my skin, and drinking a few tbls every day. I cant even explain to you how i saw my skin change, every day that passed it got better and better and better and only about 3 weeks to a month later i was completely clear of acne that had stricken me for months and months.... and i would never had known about it, had it not been for this book.

I thought that this book was going to cover all kinds of herbal medicine.

It turned out that it covered just 3 natural products, which were apple cider vinegar, honey, and kelp. It turns out that if you just add these to your diet that you will be healthy.Dr Jarvis started experimenting using these ingredients on cattle and horses. The animals has such excellent results that he started using them on his patients. They also had excellent results. He includes a lot of research information from other sources. He has a nice comfortable writing style.

I loved it.
