Real Sex for Real Women

Real Sex for Real WomenAs a sex educator, I try to read as many of the sex books that are available as possible and I am trying to review many of them here on amazon so that people can learn more about these books. I like that this book, "Real Sex for Real Woman", has photographs of real women and real men being sexual together. Not everyone likes this about this book and some of the reviews have said that they were appalled at these pictures. I feel that it is a personal issue. Some women and couples will be okay with seeing real photographs of real people having sex. Other people will not be okay with it. As a sex educator, I am happy to know that there is a book that features such pictures so that people can see what sex and intimacy look like between semi-regular looking people and not only porn actors and actresses.

I am more mixed on the information provided in the book. I do not often find Laura Berman to provide a lot of accurate information. However I do find the writing compassionate. I think it provides good basic information especially about intimacy, massage and communication. I feel that more of the research-based information presented in the book is not an accurate description.

Better books (in my opinion) for women who want to learn to have a better sex life include For Each Other, Because It Feels Good and The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex. For Each Other has mostly couples exercises and techniques in it; Because It Feels Good is about increasing desire, saying yes only to sex you like, getting out of sex cycles of dread; and using toys and lubricants to your advantage; The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex is about toys, communication, experimenting, male pleasure, female pleasure and more.

I am mixed on this book so moderately recommended. Good pictures, decent but not great information.

dr. berman's latest book really is about real sex for real women. how many times have you wandered into the "sex and relationships" section, opened a book, and been completely overwhelmed or baffled by the recommendations? this is a book for those of us who aren't gymnasts, super models, or super humans. she covers the basics, as well as information for those who are simply trying to mix things up a bit in the bedroom (or living room, or kitchen...) dr. berman's background allows her to talk about the psychological aspects of human sexuality in addition to the mechanics. her sections about communication and how stress or depression or emotional issues can affect your sex life provide a level of insight you don't get in just any book about sex. i've recommended this book to all my girlfriends and my partner (and theirs) are grateful!

I was surprised by this book. This isn't a book for women who are sexually mature or who are comfortable with their bodies; this is a basic book. But it is the best and most respectful basic book I have found. I plan to give it to my friend who is a virgin and getting married. She was raised in a very religious home where sex was rarely discussed. This is a perfect book for women who want to learn more than the ABCs of sex. This isn't a cure your sex life book, and it was never advertised as such. You would be shocked at how little most women know about sex. I teach a college level psychology of sex class, and I am constantly amazed at how little women know about sex. This book is perfect for those women.

As I read this book, I realized that while it looks basic, it isn't as basic as it seems. The info is just very clearly communicated. I think that one of the goals in this book is to talk about sex explicitly but respectfully. This is an excellent book for women who are uncomfortable talking about sex or talking about their bodies and their partner's body. This book is also good for women who struggle with with sex due to poor body image.

I found that many of the women in this book were not skinny models. There were women of different ages, and different sizes. There were small breasted women and average to larger breasted women. Many women had round figures with a bit of a tummy. No one in the book is really big, but you are not going to find that in any book. The pics showing sexual positions were used with averagely healthy weight women. But that was necessary for clarity IMO. And no, I am not thin! Or even close to thin!

I would recommend this book to every young WOMAN. As I thought I knew it all, I found alot of knowledge here and sage advice. Dr. Laura uses common sense along with expert advice and has taught this old dog new tricks! Quite possibly the best thing I have read so far concerns young women and their thoughts of self esteem. If used properly a young woman will come away from this book with the knowledge she needs for a happy, well adjusted, serene intimate life. Having grown up in the '60's, in rural Florida, I had no idea just how inhibited I was and that there was a whole world out there to explore. Kudos to Dr. Laura!

Please mom's let your daughters understand the biology, the chemistry and the emotions that are so important to a happy life.

The Complete Book of Massage

The Complete Book of MassageI found that this book has relatively good information, however, I found out most of this by myself. After reading through it once I already have most of the information memorized. This book is more the top layer of the muscle. I go to a choir college and a lot of the people here have deep knots in their shoulders and lower back. Trying to use this information does not help too much. Oh, don't get me wrong, there are several things in this book that I could use, although I might have to alter it a little. For someone that wants to go into massage therapy, I would suggest getting a few other books. I myself have purchased Art Riggs' Deep Tissue Massage book.

I would recommend this book for the people that just want to relax people for a short time. If however you would like to cause a deeper, longer lasting feeling of relaxation, purchase some other books. This book only provides the "icing on the cake" of massage.. I think. I sort of regret this buy, so think at least twice before buying.

This book is excellent and has every picture for every step and also shows you how to use oils, which types of strokes there are, and also talks a little about reflexology. It has all types of massage: Back, legs, arms, hands, shoulders, buttocks, stomach, and neck. Has massage for babies and pregnant women. Shows how to setup your own massage place and is excellent for beginners.

An enjoyable and very useful book. A Comprehensive step-by-step guide. Beautifully, clearly and richly illustrated! Covers everything : what to do before you start, basic techniques, massage for every part of the body, aromatherapy, self-massage, massage for babies and children, healing massage, and a little about pressure techniques (shiatsu and reflexology). This is "the book" to have if you want to learn about giving massage. Show it also to your partner and if you're lucky you may get to experience the magic of massage without having to spend a fortune.

This book is for couples who want to give each other a sensual massage. First of all, try giving a full body massage sitting next to someone on a bed, your back and shoulders will hurt. If Maxwell-Hudson is so serious about massage, why doesn't she have them on a massage table, which is proper. This sounds like a book about foreplay or sensual massage, not therapeutic massage. Someone with therapeutic intentions or who wants to get out knots or kinks will not benefit from this book. Some of the positions photographed are sexually suggestive. There may be technical discussion in this book, but it is out of place. The featured bodies may be beautiful, but not draped properly. This is not for professionals and to title this work The Complete Book of Massage is misleading at best.

This is a somewhat clinical approach to what should be a really warm and personal subject. The author has a tendency to go on and on, burying us with minutia that we don't really need unless we are involved in massage professionally.

Offputting for the novice, hobyist or hedonist; might work better for the professional-level massage practitioner.

Arthritis, What Exercises Work: Breakthrough Relief For The Rest Of Your Life, Even After Drugs & Su

Arthritis, What Exercises Work: Breakthrough Relief For The Rest Of Your Life, Even After Drugs & Surgery Have FailedI suffered for 8 months with inflammatory arthritis in my knees. I saw doctor after doctor, had test after test. The only solution was Celebrex which gave me chest pain. I got this book at our library out of desperation; I felt too young to lose my mobility. I'm thrilled to say these exercises were outstanding and really DO help.

Best of all, the are at least half a dozen helpful exercises for every joint area in the body starting at the top and going down even the jaw is covered.

My husband started the exercises for back & jaw (he's got TMJ) and they helped him as well.

I can't thank the authors enough for compiling such an honestly helpful book. How refreshing to actually find something that does what it says it does. THANK YOU. I have some relief in life finally.

I suffer with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in my entire body! With inflammation in my entire body, mobility is very very limited! I tried these exercise every morning for a week. I couldn't believe how much my mobility had improved in that week. Now I do the exercises everyday at least twice a day. This book is definetly worth buying.

Some parts of this book were good and some not so good.

Part 3, 4 and 5 are good. Part Three talks about aerobic exercise and 4 and 5 give details on exercises you can do for specific body parts and in special situations. The instructions are clear and there are good diagrams. Unfortuately, they don't give any advice on how many repetitions to start with and how many to build up to and which exercise to move on to when a particular excercise becomes too easy.

My problem is with Part 1. It has you go through some quizzes to put yourself in a "level" which they claim will help you pick or develop a program of exercises that suits your needs. But after you figure out your level, they never mention it again. There are two sample programs, one for level 4 (in bed) and one for level 2 (moderately active) and that's it. No program suggestions for the other levels and the excercises themselves are not given a label.

A bit disappointing.

But the exercises I am doing for my particular problem areas are good. I think the exercise sections make the book worth the money.

I don't have arthritis. I was just looking for exercises for body parts which don't get much attention in most programs. This book provided just what I was looking for. It has stretching and strengthening (gentle toning) exercises for your neck, jaw, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers, back, hip, knees, ankles, and feet.

The authors' discussion of arthritis treatment is also very interesting. They say arthritis pain encourages immobility. But immobility exacerbates your problem. The solution for the suffering patient is to start moving the affected joints. Movement is much more effective than any drugs or surgery for long term care and even for recovery. The authors provide instruction for simple exercises for all of the most frequently affected body parts. Additionally, the authors discuss how general aerobic activity can also combat arthritis. They provide good suggestions for simple aerobic exercise.

The authors also provide an introduction to body relaxation techniques. They note that high stress is usually associated with arthritis, and so may be a triggering factor for it. I would have liked to have seen more discussion of this interesting theory. I also would like to have seen some discussion of how diet may affect athritis. Nevertheless, this book is a great collection of exercises for joints that you may not have been paying much attention to before.
