The 7 Healing Chakras: Unlocking Your Body's Energy Centers

The 7 Healing Chakras: Unlocking Your Body's Energy CentersIt took me a while to finally manage to finish reading this book. It is amazing yet has so much to actually take in during a short period of time. This is definitely not a short easy read. It deals with emotions and physical problems that some of us experience on a regular basis.

My favorite part was the affirmations. I actually copies them in little note cards and positions them next to my bed. Every morning, as soon as I wake up, I read them out loud, sometimes more than once, they help me get the day started and put things in perspective.

Here are a couple of the affirmations that helped and continue to help me:

"I am a beloved child of this universe and I deserve love, peace and security.

I open myself to receive the abundance of the universe.

I am open to receive and accept love.

I am open to receive and be nurtured by the powerful energy of the earth.

I am a physical being and value my physical presence.

I resolve to take care of my body and accept it as it is today.

I value it as the physical temple in which I live and I will aim to provide for its needs in

terms of food, rest, stimulations, and general nurturing."

"I welcome Opportunities to fulfill my highest potential"

This book also contains a breathing exercise that I feel is a vital part of this book. I use it on a regular basis, to relax myself, to unwind, to get grounded and in touch with those around me.

You will definitely need a notebook and a tap recorder in order to utilize for the meditations as well as the various exercises in this book.

I know this is a book that I want to keep, and I know that I have to get back to it frequently I would highly recommend this book.

I bought this book as recommended reading by my Reiki Master-Teacher.

I had heard about chakra's for years, and understood their flow was integral, but until I began reading this book, I never really understood how your chakras and your life affect you.

Chapter by chapter, each chakra is described in detail. What organs it affects, where it is placed in your body, it's color, what crystals work well with it, and how a balanced and unbalanced affects aspects of your life.

At each chapters end there are excercises and meditations to be used to help your chakra be in balance so you receive optimal life force.

Many of the meditations could be used in course work, in association with a yoga class that focused on a certain chakra, or in other appropriate situations.

This is by far the best book for those who are learning or curious about chakras!

I love the way Brenda writes! This book is easy and fun to read as it teaches the power of each individual chakra. The book helped me heal some problem areas of my life and I know that I will refer back to it many, many times as well as recommend it to all of my friends! Thanks for the great work Brenda, I would love to meet you someday!

This is one of the first books I purchased that was strictly on Chakras. Her views and style of writting was OK at the time but since then I have found other Authors that are alot better. I read this book in less then 1 week so it an easy read and doesn't delve very deep. She also devotes a Chapter to each Chakra, and gives a fair overview, correspondences, the rest of it is exercises like meditations and jounaling questions. If you purchase this book you must get the companion book the workbookthe workbook is great, it doesn't really add anythng new, but it better explains the meditations and you can use it for your jounal. I would give the Workbook a higher rating the the actual book! Also most of the information find in this book can be found on the information/correspondences page of the workbook just in less detail. She definetly has her view of Chakras, and through study I just don't mesh well with her views.

If you are already familiar with chakras then this book probably is not the one for you; however, if you are looking for an introduction to chakras then this book is a good start. The author takes the time, a whole chapter's worth of time, to devote to each chakra giving you a very clear background and understanding. The exercises are very accurate and easy to do from the first time around. Definately a good starter book :)

Stuck in the Middle: Shared Stories And Tips For Caregiving Your Elderly Parents

Stuck in the Middle: Shared Stories And Tips For Caregiving Your Elderly ParentsI was very disappointed with this book. Based on all the glowing 5-star reviews (friends, perhaps?), I expected something far better than what I got. As a caregiver in the thick of things, it told me nothing I didn't already know, and the information was presented in a random, haphazard way. At one place, the author seemed to be confused about even the basics of Medicare and Medicaid, a critical error in discussing elder issues.

The stories themselves were very poorly written, and could use the services of a good editor at the very least. I was so distracted by the bad writing that I thought to myself, "how in the world did this get published?? It must be a self-published book." Sure enough, it was.

This is the first time I've ever written a review for Amazon, because it's the first time I've ever felt the need to warn others away from purchasing a book!

Don't waste your money. Instead, buy Jane Gross' memoir "A Bittersweet Season." It offers far more usable, helpful information than this shoddy, unprofessional attempt.

Many of "Stuck in the Middle's" range of true stories reflect my own family's physical, emotional, financial and spiritual journey caring for our parents. I'm glad my mom honored and personally cared for my paralyzed dad for 13 years. And I'm glad my siblings and I helped Mom remain at home despite debilitating strokes requiring round-the-clock nursing for several years until her death. But the cost, especially on two sets of siblings and their families was huge. We could have used this book to help us all "count the cost" and better conserve our own health and finances while supporting Mom. I am not a natural planner; but "Stuck" prods me to begin to research and lay out a plan for my own future, and to honestly engage my children in this. So my copy of the book will be highlighted and dog-eared! I now work in a home health company involved in Person Centered Care, and I intend to refer others to "Stuck in the Middle."

Stuck in the Middle: Shared Stories And Tips For Caregiving Your Elderly Parents The stories in "Stuck in the Middle" ring true and give me hope. At my stage in life, my greatest concern is becoming a burden on my daughters. Thank you for your great list of DOs and DON'Ts for those of us who will soon be receiving care.

This book was so meaningful to me that I gave a copy to a dear friend who has been trying to "hold it together" while caring for her 98 year-old mother. In her "Thank You" note she wrote, "I have read "Stuck in the Middle" and, whaddaya know, there are others out there just like me some are much worse off I feel fortunate. I appreciate so much your thinking of me with the book it is comforting to read how others have coped and get the little hints and tidbits that they offer."

The real-life testimonies in this book provide a rare glimpse into the personal and inter-personal dynamics in every family and every care-giving situation. These often-unaddressed human elements set the tone for the entire care-giving experience and are every bit as challenging to navigate as the more recognized practical aspects and stages of care giving. Thankfully this book gives important and reassuring insights into the entire care-giving journey--from practical tips on such matters as legal preparations to staying emotionally and physically healthy as caregiver.

Style Yourself Over 40, 50 & Beyond

Style Yourself Over 40, 50 & BeyondStyle yourself over 40, 50 and beyond has taught me not only how to identify my own unique style and how that style reflects my personality, but why it's important to convey a consistent style that authentically communicates who I am . But it doesn't stop there. The author tells me where to shop to get the garments that reflect my style. I had no idea how relieving it would be just to know my style, where to shop for my style, and to know that my closet could be filled with garments that would allow me to dress in my style every single day. I no longer worry when I have to go shopping.

I am so happy to read cover to cover and feel the love of fashion the author, Sybil Henry has put into every page. She has given every woman over 40, 50 & beyond essential guidelines, and helpful tips on how to find your style and define your body shape and size (details begin in Part2 of the book) Sybil is making it all come together for women over 40.

She is also giving you stores and brands for your shopping experience. So go out there, grab your "new finds" and say 'thank you Sybil" and we love you.

I have read many fashion books, but this one is "Amazing" Each page you turn is worth the price of this book.

Style Yourself Over 40, 50 & Beyond is a MUST READ! I knew the basics about style but it always took me forever to put together outfits. Whether I was dressing for work or a night out, the process was painful and painfully long! I'd try on a million different combinations of things. I'd end up with the right outfit (maybe) but I'd also end up with a big pile of clothes on the bed. This book takes the guess work out of looking your best. It's so much more fun to shop now since "Style Yourself..." has taught me how to do it right. I take more style chances because I know what I'm doing now and co-workers/friends have started to notice. Some people have asked if I've lost weight or what I'm doing differently. I tell them, "Buy the book!" Added bonus: I'm not wasting money buying things I'll never wear; I buy the right clothes for my style and body type.

One of my hobbies is baking. I ALWAYS bake with a recipe so my desserts come out their best every time. "Style Yourself..." is my recipe book for looking my best everyday!

Based on the title and table of contents, I was expecting this book to be so much more useful than it was. There was actually nothing in it that was specific to women over 40, and there was nothing in it that was helpful in trying to define a personal style, unless you happen to fit into the ridiculously few categories that the author tries to lump all women into: Chic, glam, sporty, classic, etc. Even to these, she devotes only a couple of pages each, with no practical suggestions. The advice on finding clothes to flatter your body shape boiled down to a few pages, with a lot of white space, and was nothing that I hadn't seen better done before. This book was all promise and no actual delivery. As I said, it was such a disappointment. (A much, much better book on style and appearance for older women is "Staging Your Comeback," by Christopher Hopkins.)

Well, I am happy to report that I finally received the answer to style that I so desired. What is the first thing that came to mind after my excitement to this revelation? I must share this: "Sybil Henry", of "The Style Concierge" .

In her book she explores all things style from A to Z for women over forty. Not only does she explore the proper fit and where to shop, but she tackles the subject from head to toe. Through her writing she speaks candidly about her own journey and touches on "oh so many" of the issues, I am having with regards to "clothing" and how I "feel" as a woman over forty when in the dressing room. As well as beyond in the struggle to "show up" feeling the joy about my presentation to the world as I so confidently did in my younger years.

Check out her book, I can assure you, you'll be glad you did. It's packed with information that will help you achieve your authentic style.
