Organic Beauty With Essential Oil: Over 400+ Homemade Recipes For Natural Skin Care, Hair Care and B

Organic Beauty With Essential Oil: Over 400+ Homemade Recipes For Natural Skin Care, Hair Care and Bath & Body ProductsI've recently been having an issue with my body lotion and the soap I've been using. Every time I would get out the shower I'd itch and it was because the soap was too harsh on my skin and would remove all the natural oil from my body!

Thank god for Rebecca Totilo. The best part is that the book doesn't just stop at teaching you how to make your own soaps or body wash, you can also make your own mouthwash (the spearmint-aloe is INCREDIBLE) and lip balm! Its insane and absolutely amazing all the same time. Literally everything that author Rebecca Totilo writes about are products that leave you feeling refreshed, clean and completed renewed! Now I'm itch free and loving my yogurt walnut facial scrub and my Rosewater night cream. Greatest book ever! Kid you not!

I recently opened my own massage business and I work going to different peoples homes. Basically what I wanted to do was offer a service where I could use organic, soothing oils and lotions that would rejuvenate and refresh my clients all while allowing their bodies to absorb essential nutrients. Sure, I found products I could buy at stores that promised the same effects for a lot more money, but I would end up losing more then I was gaining.

Then I found this book. I don't know what I would've done without it. It was literally everything I was looking for. I was able to create all different types of massage oils: lemon-aloe, grape-fruit honey, the list goes on!. The best thing was that all these ingredients barely cost me anything! And I have so much fun experimenting with different ingredients!

My clients love it and my business is booming! Couldn't have done it without this.

Well...imagine her surprise when I came home with this book and was able to share with her some things she didn't know. Now...she's confiscated the book and has fallen in love with the wealth of knowledge that is contained in the pages. Rebecca has a potential best seller on her hands and for those interested in a better life this is a must read!

Steampunk Your Wardrobe: Easy Projects to Add Victorian Flair to Everyday Fashions (Design Originals

Steampunk Your Wardrobe: Easy Projects to Add Victorian Flair to Everyday FashionsSteampunk Your Wardrobe: Easy Projects to Add Victorian Flair to Everyday Fashions lives up to its title. After a brief definition of steampunk fashion, the author gives instructions for creating 20 trimmings, accessories, and garments, preferably from items thrifted or from the back of the reader's closet. The projects focus on the most conservative steampunk tropes: for example a necklace with key pendants, a mini top hat, a ruffled choker, and two appealing methods of ruching up long skirts. The author substitutes a plain black leather waist cincher for the common external corset made of brocade or satin. Largely missing are the more hardwarey, techy items such as goggles and gears. Oddly, also missing is the ubiquitous short bustle-overskirt, made of several ruffles of fancy materials sewn to a band, to be tied over the back of a skirt.

Some projects are not perceptibly steampunk. For example, a shoulder cape cut from the upper part of an oversized coat made of camel-colored wool, with two conservative brown leather toggles added. Many lack the flair and exuberance that would turn them from rather tacky makeovers to steampunk. It's an intriguing and practical idea to, instead of wearing thin external drawers, shorten a pair of suit pants in charcoal gray wool, and then add lace ruffles. But the lace ruffles should be a statement, not the narrow, meagerly gathered, cheap-looking little bands shown here. Then there is a bright red nylon lace circle top with wobbly stitching that is simply unfortunate.

The descriptions are somewhat lacking in detail for beginners, but this seems to have been required to fit 20 projects into a 103-page book. They are supplemented by good-quality photos, though most beginners will wish for additional technical shots. The real problem is the loving-hands-at-home look that pervades all projects. While I assume the publisher imposed space constraints, I wish the author had included techniques for finishing seams, hemming edges, and otherwise making higher-quality garments. For example, she could have just asked readers to use ribbons and scalloped laces for the layered, ruffled choker, instead of strips of fabrics that are shown fraying all over. And even though the projects are for beginners, it would be more inspiring to see them carried out with a professional degree of skill and taste. Take the wool shoulder cape made from a coat, mentioned above. According to the instructions, the coat is cut off at the level of the underarm seams, though the photos clearly show it at waist level, which is a better proportion but which would require some undescribed method of merging the upper sleeves into the body of the coat. It is unclear from the instructions and photos what is done with the lining. However, the outside of the coat shows the bottom of the wool bound in black cotton-poly bias binding--the usual narrow kind found at the notions counter for binding internal seams. This edge is finished, but that's all you can say for it. This shoulder cape would have been positively elegant with a wider outer facing in velvet or velveteen (a brown plaid print cut on the bias would be lovely), or with rich faux fur trimming. True, the author tells readers to vary her ideas at will--but for the most attractive results, they are positively required to.

This book is suitable for beginners who want quick gratification and who are willing to toss their projects aside after a few wearings. And for experienced sewists who know how to--and are willing to--fill out and modify the instructions to produce polished, durable garments. Steampunk isn't really about ruffles or gears: it's about style.

Terrific book for those who are interested in dressing with a little steampunk & victorian 'flair'! Projects are geared for folks with basic sewing and crafting skills perfect for a beginner and myself, new to the genre.

Particularly interested in the feather fascinator and the shoulder wrap have finished the feather fascinator and my daughter loves it! Highly recommend and hope Calista Taylor does more books on victorian or other historic period fashions Kudos!

I was so glad when the book arrived. I was afraid that the items pictured, the patterns and instructions would be beyond me but I was happily wrong. The items are fairly inexpensive with respect to materials especially if, like me, you go to thrift stores. The patterns are very straight forward and the instructions are simple, of course the pictures included are a big help. I am Trying to decide on colors but expect to have my own "Steam Punk" outfit soon.

This is an excellent idea book for steampunk fashion, and concentrates on modifying existing clothing rather than creating from scratch.

That said, some of the techniques explained to modify the clothing is a little unnerving for a tailor. Much of the explanations are 'cut straight' without explaining how to avoid crooked hanging, or to leave excess for seam allowance, or to go off basic measurements and folded paper rather than an actual fitting or a pattern. This can lead to bad habits in young sewers.

Still, for a beginner, this book would be great for ideas.

Looking Good: Wardrobe Planning and Personal Style Development

Looking Good: Wardrobe Planning and Personal Style DevelopmentNancy Nix-Rice introduces the concept of "clothes capsules" in her book "Looking Good." These are sets of your existing clothes (or helped out with items you might want to purchase.) These are tops that go with slacks, skirts, the accessories. You put them together in your closet and never have to say "I don't have anything to wear." You also can learn to purchase items (even those tempting bargains) that fit with the capsules.

But that isn't all that is in here. There is scarf-tying help, accessory advice, color advice for your complexion, make-up advice including a face chart, sewing information, mending, clothes and fabric care, renovation and remodeling out-of-style clothes, and how to pick the proper clothes to flatter any figure. And I mean ANY. She has photos that are astonishing, showing how even someone with a very full figure can instantly improve the very same outfit by using a buckle, the right color stockings and the right hem length.

Just about anything you'd need to know about keeping your wardrobe up to date and flattering to you is in this book.

This book has helped me make many positive changes. In fact, although I have owned it for many years, I have it out once again to review and get things back in order or in other words, "brush up" on my image. For anyone in or entering into the corporate world...it is an absolute MUST READ! Covering such topics of how you look, making do with very little, and excellent tips for business and pleasure traveling, it is a "how to" manual of sorts. Beginning with the basic clothing and storage space that you already own..sorting and editing, building onto your wardrobe with inexpensive accessories, packing for travel, updating closets and storage areas, selecting the most versatile styles, and ending with great tips on how to care for all. For travel it is amazing how few items can become so many combinations. The information on organizing is a definite read for women and men. If you haven't had the opportunity to read this fabulous "manual", treat yourself now! You may want to go ahead and order several because you WILL want to share it with friends!

I will give this book the thumbs up for the good content, the good tips on dressing and choosing the right kind of clothes based on both your personal style and your colour group. My only 2 dissatisfactions are: 1. Limiting dress styles to only the 4 groups are not realistic, I cannot find myself fitting into any of them. 2. The pictures are out-dated, with dress styles showing out-of-date clothes and accessories. I think this book should be given a new look (which is what it is supposed to help women to achieve!) of up-to-date examples of just what they are trying to show.

This book is a strong reference piece with useful illustrations. I agree with other reviewers that the styles and color palettes could benefit from an update. The advice offered is sound, however, and regardless of outdated fashion lines in the examples they clearly convey the concept being illustrated.

In addition to the illustrations the reader is asked to evaluater her wardrobe using charts and graphs. Questionaires about preference are included as well as a measurement worksheet to help the reader sort out the information being presented. It may sound like a lot of information but it is an easy, managable approach

The manner in which these ideas are illustrated is the real strength of this piece-if the reader is very visual this is the book to have. The graphs, charts, and questionaires in the book also offer the reader options for reflection.

Frankly there are several other books available which offer very similar information, but I would still recommend having this one on hand as a reference.

Prescriptions for a Healthy House, 3rd Edition: A Practical Guide for Architects, Builders & Homeown

Prescriptions for a Healthy House, 3rd Edition: A Practical Guide for Architects, Builders & HomeownersAs a Building Biologist I work with people who want healthier homes and there is no better resource for creating a healthy home than this book. Every builder, architect and home remodeler needs to read this book before they start their next project. It's cutting edge thinking.

My wife and I are building a new home and I am someone who pays a lot of attention to things that can affect the health of my family. I unfortunately don't trust the world and the government to fully protect us. They do a great job on average, but sometimes the specifics fail (contamination in water supply, cancer causing high voltage lines too close to houses, etc.). Also, in todays world of "build it cheap" the entire contracting industry is pushed towards cutting corners and not paying attention to things that can cause serious health issues. This book is FANTASTIC! It discusses all of the relevant issues in building a healthy home, and finds the right balance between being readable to a layperson like me, and yet organized well for the contractors (things to include in your spec separated into the 16 Divisions, which is how the contractors look at building a house). I could not recommend this book more highly and already sent another 3 copies to friends and family.

This book is so valuble. Every builder or renovator should read this, as well as anyone who wants a healthy home. I learned about this book from several people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, who told me that this was the book that helped them build a home they could live in. That's a rare thing to be able to do, as many people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities cannot find a healthy building they can live in.

Taming the Paper Tiger at Home

Taming the Paper Tiger at HomeMonths ago I saw the author on a morning talk show. I already own so many books on organization and clutter reduction, I thought what good would another book on the subject do me? Recently, after spending hours going through piles of paper that had been on the dining room table for weeks, and ending up with half of the papers in smaller piles, I ordered this book. I also ordered "Taming the Paper Tiger at Work" for my husband who is also "organizationally challenged". These books are quick reads, motivating, and the method the author lays out for managing all the paper in our lives is practical and easy. My husband took his book to work and spent the next two days revamping his files and was excited about it. My dining room table has been paper free for two weeks, and I know where to find info if I need, and what "papers" need to filled out, or phone calls made. Not only is my house tidier with less papers laying around, I feel less anxious that I am "forgetting" something.

I really appreciate any good book on organization. I would like to thank the author for her great advice on how to divide and conquer your "action" papers. This book is a nice complement to "File, Don't Pile" which gives much more detail on how to organize your other paper mess which is your reference files. I recommend both.

I would have rated this book higher if it had been the first book I read about organization. However, I purchased 5 at the same time while on a work space organizational kick. I read Organizing Your Workspace by Odette Pollar first as it states it's a quick read. Paper Tiger gave the same basic organization structure as Pollar's book, but with a more interesting and real tone than Pollar. However, Paper Tiger spent the second half of the book on the big picture of organizational organization, the home office, computer files, and long term maintenance of the filing system. Things I'm not interested in right now that I am in the overwhelming start of a new organizational process. This info may be helpful to me in a few months when I have established a routine and can concentrate on long term maintenance. I would have found more practical time saver tips and starting advise a better help.

I'd read Barbara Hemphill's earlier book and was glad to see she's expanded it into two books now with the focus on work and home. Being a chronic paper hoarder means rereading this book occasionally before the paper overwhelms me.

She really understands what needs organizing and streamlined, from messages to catalogs, recipes, photos, bills, tax records and the endless stream of paper that flows through our lives. Setting up the systems to handle our troublesome paper clutter brings relief. Some of it you know already, and just need a reminder, but other tips give new ways to handle the growing piles of paper.

Very practical.

The Cosmetics Cookbook: Over 50 recipes to beautify your face, hair, and entire body you can whip up at home for practically pennies!I have been making cosmetics for over 10 years, have a diploma in herbal medicine & aromatherapy...thought this book would be a great addition to my cosmetic cookbook collection. It was not. If you are a beginner & when I say beginner, I mean you have never made anything cosmetic in your kitchen before, this may be a good book for you. If you have made cosmetics in the past and don't know much about formulation, then check this book out from the library before purchasing. The recipes call for ingredients like mineral oil and petroleum jelly (NASTY ingredients to use on your face & body--these are both by-products of the petroleum industry, are not good for you, create a greasy layer on top of the skin, do not penetrate &/or heal anything), clearly the author does not realize what she is instructing people to use on their bodies. I generally do not leave bad reviews of any book, I try to find a little nugget of valuable information in the book prior to writing a review, but I have not been able to find a thing that justifies a good or at least ambivalent review of this book.

Excellent! The only word to describe it. The book is very well presented and also well written. A MUST for every home with such simple and easy to prepare recipies. I would recommend this book to everyone and really worth its price in gold!

The Spark: The 28-Day Breakthrough Plan for Losing Weight, Getting Fit, and Transforming Your Life

The Spark: The 28-Day Breakthrough Plan for Losing Weight, Getting Fit, and Transforming Your LifeI got this book because a friend lost 40 pounds in the last 10 months and was raving about Spark and the SparkPeople website. So I bought this and I'm happy I listened to her. I think this book is necessary for anyone trying to lose weight even if you don't use the diet or exercise information in it.

This book is more than just diet and exercise. It's inspirational and the focus is on you as a person and gently nudges you into creating a better lifestyle in an easy manner for yourself. Diet and exercise come after that for true and permanent weight loss. That's a big distinction from other diet and exercise books.

There's incredible support at the SparkPeople website. In fact, you should definitely join up there in order to get the most out of this book.

One of the biggest reasons people fail at weight loss is because they don't have any positive support that they can fall back. So maximize the benefits of this book by joining the website to get the kind of support that will propel you to success. It's free.

Like another reviewer mentioned, this program successfully connects weight loss with all the other aspects of your life instead of having a disconnect or wall between weight loss and the rest of your life.

Spark is great for taking information from other books and programs that have more of the nuts and bolts of fast weight loss tricks and meshing them into your life without making weight loss a burden and a big struggle.

I've personally lost 24 pounds and 3.5 inches from my waist in 5 weeks (a lot faster weight loss than my friend) by using this Spark book, the SparkPeople website for support, The 5-Second Flat Belly Secret Lose 2-3 Inches from Your Belly in Less Than 1 Month for targeted fat loss from my stomach and waist, 5-Minute Miracle Exercises: Lose 5 Pounds in 2 Weeks Only 5 Minutes a Day! for quick fat loss workouts at home, and The Mediterranean Diet: (author To Come) as the basis for my diet.

I should say that I got 2 of those books because I saw them on the "customers who bought this item also bought" list for Spark. That's a great resource to use to find complimentary books on Amazon.

Spark is definitely worth buying.

True or false: People fail to lose weight and keep it off because they don't realize they need to eat healthy food and exercise.

We know that isn't true-everyone knows about healthy food and exercise. But isn't that the message of most "diet" books? Once you find the right magic foods and the right magic exercise, once you have that secret knowledge not found in any other diet book, then YOU will lose that weight!

If we are willing to be honest, the real reason we are not losing weight is US--we end up choosing to eat that dessert, to sleep in instead of pounding the pavement, to say to ourselves "this is never going to work."

And that's where The Spark starts: with how we view and live our life and how we can make sustainable positive change. In fact, it doesn't even start talking about what foods to eat until page 84.

Where it starts is with four "cornerstones" of positive living: focus, fitness, fire, and positive force. The author takes a chapter on each of these concepts and lays out how they apply to life in general and a life shift like weight loss in particular.

So, does this work? Does the effort to really understand the principles of positive change make a difference? Well, this book is really just the distillation of a website & online community, , which has helped tens of thousands of people make meaningful change. In fact, the center of the book contains short bios and color photos of seventeen people, real people, real people who you can actually contact through the sparkpeople online community, who have used the principles to lose big weight (most of them 100+ pounds) and keep it off and really change their lives.

Yes, the healthy diet and exercise tips are in there, just like in every diet book. But what makes this book different, and special, is that the focus isn't the food, but you: a practical plan to change your outlook and jump-start your motivation so that you can practice a healthy lifestyle and change your life. A very good way to start out the new year, or any time you decide to change for the better.

Buy The Spark: The 28-Day Breakthrough Plan for Losing Weight, Getting Fit, and Transforming Your Life Now

"The Spark" (the book) is in my opinion not what people beginning a diet need to lose weight. However, I'm not sorry I bought it, for one very important reason. I'm grateful from the use of their web site, and happy to contribute to their income by buying the book.

I started a diet in mid-June, and I used SparkPeople to track my calories. It helped me immensely, and in two months I've lost 17 pounds that at the start of the summer I had no idea I would or could be losing. However, I did it because I got into the nuts and bolts of calorie control and switching to better foods on day one of my diet.

I want to emphasize that SparkPeople is a wonderful set of tools and resources to help you lose weight. I owe a lot of my weight loss to making use of the web site's tools, and without it I would not have lost as much weight as I already have.

The book is not as clear cut.

The first 80% of this book spends most of its time talking about organization and motivation techniques. It came across to me much more like books that are intended to pump up a sales staff than a book which would help someone who is overweight kick start their weight loss program. Frankly, I don't think it is helpful to try to get someone who desperately needs to lose weight to juggle many different motivational concepts. That's just too confusing. When a book tells me that one of the first things I need to do to lose weight is to embrace "Positive Force", I'm sorry, I don't know that that means, and I'm still fuzzy about it after finishing the book. LOL

What someone who has trouble because they've gained weight needs is a set of simple and practical steps. "Positive Force" doesn't give me a clue towards how I'm going to lose a pound this week. "Replace soft drinks made with corn syrup by drinking water" does do that. That's in this book too, but not until about the last fifth of it. That's something I can hold onto, and in fact it was the very first step I took in my own diet. I cut 150 to 600 calories a day out of my own "calorie waste" just by cutting out the corn syrup sweetened soft drinks.

The next thing I did was to replace high fat, high sugar snacks with healthy snacks. My favorite emergency go to for a snack is one or two grape tomatoes 2 calories each replacing something like 3 oatmeal cookies at 75 calories each 225 total for the three. An apple at 70-100 calories is another good choice for an afternoon snack.

Next I cut out high fat dairy, replacing sour cream with 0% Greek Yogurt and severely curtailing my consumption of cheese. I cut most of the butter out of our cooking. We started cooking our own meals with healthy meats and vegetables and stopped ordering pizza. My favorite Pizza Hut Meat Lover's Pan Pizza is 310 calories per slice. Three slices of that on a Friday night plus a Dr. Pepper was 1100 calories all on its own. This pizza is out of our meal rotation now. LOL I'd eat a Jack in the Box Ultimate Cheeseburger for lunch ... 800 calories. Now I'm on a ham sandwich and a bowl of soup for 300 total. The 300 calories is more filling, more nutrition, and actually better tasting.

These are the kinds of things you do to lose weight. Its the detail work that identifies what's gone wrong with what you decide to eat, and replacing those things with smarter choices. We didn't really even have to make too many difficult choices here. The meals we cook now are better tasting and better for us than the pizza was. Yes, it takes more time, but the rewards are far more valuable than the time spent.

I gave this book three stars because in its last sections, it does give you some specific information and hard data that you can use to lose weight. I think it is organized backwards. Its rare for an individual to make the decision to take that first step to lose weight. When they do, don't waste the chance to help them by talking about organization. Give them a short list of simple actions to help them get started. If you ONLY do the type of things I noted above, you'll lose weight. Then do some reading on your own and add to that. Find healthy and fun recipes. Add some exercise when you can. But the most important thing is to identify the calorie land mines and get them out of your life.

As I mentioned above, I've lost 17 pounds in two months, and my wife has lost 14. We're enjoying what we eat, and going hungry is not part of our "diet" experience. We eat real meals, made of real foods, and they taste good. That's the easy way to diet, let me tell you. And it isn't hard to do. Its available to everyone, any day they choose to start eating that way.

UPDATE: As of October 28th, I reached my original goal of 30 pounds lost. I'm going to continue to lose a few more pounds to have a safety margin for the extra calories that Thanksgiving will bring. I'm firmly in control of my weight, and I attribute that to:

(1) Identifying the high calorie, low nutrition foods in our life and banishing them from the house.

(2) Using the SparkPeople.com nutrition tracker (counting calories) to double check when I'm reaching my calorie budget for the day, and making sure I stay within that budget.

(3) Taking the trouble to find great tasting dishes we can prepare which don't rack up huge calories. This keeps us from suffering "diet fatigue" from not enjoying what we eat, or getting bored with what we eat. Hint: several ounces of chicken and two or three one cup servings of vegetables will stuff you for less than 400 calories for an entire dinner.

(4) Finding low calorie snacks to gobble when a stray craving hits (grapes, grape tomatoes, apples, even popcorn).

(5) Still eating some of the higher calorie things we love, but limiting portions (a 1/3rd cup serving of potato salad instead of a huge serving ... one hamburger instead of two (home cooked, the cheap fast food hamburgers have ridiculous calories).

(6) Making a few sensible but still decent tasting substitutions: home made ranch dressing made with yogurt for 35 calories a serving instead of store bought at 160 calories per serving, for example. In fact, yogurt is a big key in our weight loss. It substitutes for sour cream and other dairy products at a fraction of the calories. I can make key lime pie using yogurt and light cream cheese for 170 calories a slice instead of eating the key lime pie bought at the store, which is 450 calories a slice. The taste is similar and the texture of what we make at home is actually better ... and it literally takes 10 minutes to make.

I have bought my fair share of diet and nutrition books, always looking for that little something I didnt know about that was holding me back, or even better, something that could cause me to start losing weight with out any effort at all.

Well, I'm sad to say, there is no such book on the market. You honestly have to make the effort to get the results. I have enjoyed reading the articles on for a good while, and knew enough about the diet to know I would enjoy The Spark book. I bought it, deciding I would read it while I walked on the treadmill.

I have to say I really was shocked at how different the book was than what I thought it was going to be like. I was expecting that it would be more technical, "do this many sit up's, eat this many calories". It REALLY is sooo much better than I imagined! The author breaks down exercise, diet and nutrition into very manageable solutions. I have many diet books, but this is now my favorite one! It made me want to actually do more than just read it, it made me want to actually DO the things that will bring about positive change in my life, and thats something impressive in itself! Everyone wants a spark of inspiration to live a healthier, thinner, fitter lifestyle, and there's a good chance you'll get it from The Spark. Author Chris Downie gives a formula for success that includes goal setting, positive motivation, an eating program, exercise, and community support through his worldclass website, . In fact, the real magic of the Spark program revolves around participation in the sparkpeople website, which is more exciting than the book.

The Spark diet is a 4-stage process, which Downie bills as a way of life rather than a diet. However, it really is a low-fat, moderate calorie diet, and it draws heavily on the USDA food program guidelines. There are 4 stages, and each stage has several sub-steps. All these activities make the diet complicated to understand and implement. As for exercise, Downie advocates 10-minute "streaks" of continuous, positive activity every day.

The Spark has a lot of goodness going for it, and Downie's positive, contagious energy is hands down the best feature of the book and his website ambiance. The program clearly works for a lot of people, and Downie has a legion of raving fans. That said, like many weight loss and fitness books, The Spark suffers from predictable, re-hashed information and consequently did not hold my attention.

Also, Downie's organization of material creates confusion rather than clarity. A few times I had to read a whole page or more before I could figure out what the chapter was going to be about. In general, I had a hard time following his lead.

This book is recommended for people who are drawn to online interactions and who like a lot of support. It's not recommended for the computer illiterate.

Taking Care of Your Child: A Parent's Guide to Complete Medical Care

Taking Care of Your Child: A Parent's Guide to Complete Medical CareI received this book as a freebie, part of a very smart corporation's plan to get their employees to take better care of themselves and their children, presumably, of course, to thereby lessen the overall insurance burden.

Never-the-less, with the probable exception of the dictionary, it's been the most referenced book on my shelves over the last 15 years since my first child was born. I treasure its simple wisdom and sensible approach and it has helped me both to ignore certain complaints and to act quickly upon others during that time.

As for the rather embittered review which claims it's full of dangerously misleading information, I'd have to disagree (although it's important to note those comments were made in reference to feeding issues, an area -unlike meningitis, for instance, or a fall which resulted in a jagged bone protruding -in which there's still a fair bit of debate).

No, it shouldn't be used as a sole source of information, nor should it completely replace your own good judgement AND instinct. However, for any number of every day ailments and injuries that any parent will encounter with their children, its generally sound guidance will be most welcome in helping you arrive at a conclusion whether to phone the doctor or not.

Being a parent is often enough like playing pin the tail on the donkey in the dark -this book, however, WILL shine a bit of light where you might need it most.

This is an excellent book for new parents. I just love the flow charts which are great when you need answers in a hurry.

Our pediatrician told us to buy this book on our prenatal visit, about 30 years ago. It was an excellent source and can help calm a new parent and save on wasted trips to the doctor. I loved the flowchart method of telling you whether to call the doctor or not. Of course, if you are unsure or the book did not cover the exact symptoms you still should call the pediatrician. Now I am going to buy it for our daughter to use on our grandchildren.
