An Introduction to Reiki: Healing Energy for Mind, Body and Spirit

An Introduction to Reiki: Healing Energy for Mind, Body and SpiritThis beautiful little book drew my attention when I was "browsing" the natural health shelf at a local bookstore, not looking for anything in particular, just wondering what would call out to me. I knew nothing about Reiki at the time. But I loved what the title addressed: healing energy for mind, body and spirit. That's for me! So I paged through to find a world of beauty: Beauty in the graceful layout and generous number of lovely photographs. Beauty in the simple text that serves as a beginner's guide to Reiki: it's history and principles; the healing treatments involving the endocrine system, seven chakras, emotions and basic hand positions; first aid practices to relieve headache, back pain, stress and other common ailments; special treatments for children, the elderly, pets and plants; Reiki and other therapies such as color and crystal healing.

It truly was an introduction that motivated me to study more, find a Reiki teacher and learn to treat myself and others with Reiki as a spiritual way of life. Though I have since read many other worthwhile books, more detailed or inclusive, I still go back to this beauty for inspiration and guidance.

It's not as informative as it could be. In fact, you're probably better off doing a couple of Google searches for 'reiki' than you would be buying this book, unless you were looking for an outline of the discipline. For what it is, it's not bad.

Transdermal Magnesium Therapy: A New Modality for the Maintenance of Health

Transdermal Magnesium Therapy: A New Modality for the Maintenance of HealthI am astounded at what I have learned from this book. I have type two diabetes and have tried many natural solution to control my diabetes without drugs. MgCl2 "oil" rubbed over my body dropped my blood sugar to 86 three hours after a dinner meal. I was shocked. I had been taking 1200 mg of magnesium daily, since I knew magnesium lowered insulin resistance. I was still magnesium deficient. The book stated that in order to get sufficient magnesium, you have to take as much orally, up to the bowel tolerance limit, PLUS, rubbing magnesium "oil" over most of your body. I am now waking up nearly every day with blood sugar levels, I.e., below a 100. I am doing this while still controlling the amount of carbs I consume. Dr. Sircus books on baking soda and iodine are equally shocking. Please get these books, if you care about your health.

For anyone who wants to be as healthy as possible, and to get there in the healthiest of ways, in my non-expert opinion, this book is a must read.

From my lay person's perspective, parts of the text read like a professional medical journal. [Readers not well versed in scientific study dialog could skim some of those parts and still get the essential information.]

Other parts of this New Modality read like a gift explaining in enthralling clarity a beautiful secret of Life. [I vacuumed those parts into my soul, which somehow seemed to already know this secret.]

Through a no nonsense, justifiably heated perspective, Dr. Sircus exposes a travesty of ignorance driven by arrogance, at best. I don't want to look at the worst.

From my lifelong experiences [64 years old] and private studies, I was aware of a good portion of what this true medicine man presents, though in a way he isn't presenting medicine: In his own terms of integrity Dr. Sircus is promoting the purest, simplest, most potent type of healing, balancing, strengthening force available at this time.

Prior to reading this phenomenal book, I had taken my unique path with this mineral, as per my reviews, comment strings, and Listmania. But, what this doctor has compiled and written in this follow up of his first transdermal therapy book, provides keys and attitudes which were welcome, needed to confirm, reinforce, shore up, and enhance the body of information, intuition, and experience I had collected.

As Dr. Mark Allen Sircus says here:

Magnesium is The Lamp of Life.

I hadn't been able to comprehend why some facets of Orthodox medicine seemed to be attempting to extinguish this Lamp. This book exposes some of the plausible explanations.

I'm thankful that, IMO, our economy won't have to crash as the benefits of this type of information come to light, and shifts occur gradually in ways of practicing true healing.

It appears to me that it will take just enough time for wise individuals to see what books like this are saying, and to act upon pieces of truth in them to reverse health issues, thereby increasing awareness of success potential among those who are "taking their health in their own hands." History of human habit seems to indicate that most people will continue following established paths until true healers in all parts of the medical industry begin reading books like this, and perusing customer reviews of transdermal magnesium products.

I want to believe, and am praying that humanity will gradually follow the Lamp of Light to sparkling baths of human DNA integrity [excuse the word drama; I write sci fi fantasy, lol].

Drama aside, I've known and experienced that Magnesium sets the priorities of the Life Force. This book gives some of the proof.

For details of what, specifically, transdermal magnesium can accomplish, read this book, and/or see other reviews, including mine, on magnesium products available on Amazon and elsewhere, including one of the magnesium chloride sprays Dr. Sircus recommends:

Ancient Minerals Ultra Pure Magnesium Oil 8 oz..

Also feel free to see my Listmania on my Amazon Profile.

For details on background and/or verity of reviewers promoting various products, wisdom might guide you to click on their names to see any Profiles they have built here on Amazon.

I am not affiliated with any product I review. I'm here because I care about the path of human health being simple, pure, gentle, and effective from all angles of cost and cure.

As I posted on a one star comment elsewhere, I agree that he needs to give a better plan of action, but I would still give this book a much better rating simply because of the enormous amount of desparately needed information he includes. He sounds out a battle cry that desparately needs to be sounded and he does give you places to look for more information. The number of conditions he connects to magnesium deficiency are amazing and he always gives more sources. I think the book would be too large if he went into more detail. It is a bit technical for the average Joe, but anybody can get an amazing amount of desparately needed information here.

If you are struggling with Cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, MS, arthritis, Alzheimers, ADD/ADHD, or have a child with Autism, you really need this book. You will be amazed what little old Magnesium can do. Like a lot of things, it has been hiding in plain sight all these years. If only we/they had listened; how many lives could have been saved?

This book is a lifesaver for me and my brother.

I am 59 years old and for the past two years, I suffered from tingling feet along with some weird numbness in my lower legs. My feet became hypersensitive and I couldn't stand to have my wife even touch them. At first, I began to look at my diet and started taking vitamins and various supplements. Later, I suspected I might be in the early stages of diabetes, so I tried cutting back on sugar and alcohol consumption. (I decided to only go to a doctor as a last resort--I didn't want to get a bunch of prescription drugs with who-knows-what side effects.) Eating better and exercising helped but I still had bouts of tingly feet, as if I might have some nerve damage.

A few weeks ago I discovered "Transdermal Magnesium Therapy: A New Modality for the Maintenance of Health" by Dr. Mark Sircus. He makes a strong case that most people are deficient in magnesium, and many of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency I seemed to be experiencing.

As recommended, I tried soaking my feet in a hot solution of magnesium chloride for about an hour. When finished, my feet felt wonderful, so much so that I asked my wife to rub them later. The sensitivity was gone! I began using magensium oil daily to stay on top of this situation. So far, so good.

With such dramatic results, I thought of my brother who is 55.

My brother is a disabled veteran who has been diagnosed with MS and is on beaucoup medications. His health has declined markedly over the past few years and he needed to use a big walking stick just to get up and move around. Always in pain, he couldn't sleep well. After my fantastic results, I noted in the book that Dr. Sircus says that the symptoms of MS are the same as the symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Hmmm.

Two weeks ago I drove up to see my brother with a bucket and some magnesium chloride. I told him what I wanted to do and shrugged and said "Okay" without much enthusiasm. I prepared a hot soak and I sat down with him for an hour while he soaked his feet. Toward the end of the session, he said he usually got charley horses in his toes if he tried curling them, but they felt fine. I left him with a small amount of magnesium chloride so he could do some more treatments.

The next day he called and said he had not felt so good in years! He had slept soundly and had no cramping at all. Several times he would say "It's not possible." He began rubbing the magnesium oil over his body and would continue to do so.

Two days ago, I drove up to see him with his Christmas present--a large jug of magnesium oil! He was moving around without his walking stick--he said he hasn't needed it. He looked healthier with more vigor than before. At one point he jumped up from his chair and smiled, saying he couldn't do that just two weeks earlier. He still has some pain, but he says he feels better each day. Pretty darn good if you ask me!

I am still new to magnesium chloride. But after using it just a short period of time, the results have been dramatic. Other family members have taken note and are starting to use it now too.

Magnesium chloride is amazing and this book tells you why. Now go see for yourself.

PS: Dr.Sircus' other book, "Sodium Bicarbonate Full Medical Review" is equally great. A must read!

I can't write enough to do this book justice. Read this book and see if it doesn't heal and save your life or someone you love! This book along with 3 others, I believe, have given me the self-healing breakthrough I've sought for over 4 decades of research, study, paths walked with traditional and alternative approaches of every kind imaginable...and many hundreds of thousands of dollars spent. A life long search for mind/body/spirit healing has come together in the last 6 months with this book and a small handful of others. I"m on it. Already notice a BIG difference and it's only been 1 week. Dare I be excited? I believe so. My graduate degree is in medical research methods I read hundreds of books and so I look very closely and dig very deeply into my health research. This one is excellently presented with clarity and researched integrity. I am grateful for this book and this author's life work. Thank YOU this very well may have just healed my body and opened my life where I'd lost hope.

Encountering Medieval Textiles and Dress: Objects, Texts, Images (New Middle Ages)

Encountering Medieval Textiles and Dress: Objects, Texts, ImagesAs is the case with many books compiled from excellent work created by diverse authors, this book could warrant a review of each chapter. The book covers the fifth through the sixteenth centuries, from Ireland to Italy and the Mediterranean, and is compiled into three sections based on date(s) covered by the articles.

This tome discusses the distinctions of levels of society as delineated by clothing, the development of the textile industry, and the use of textile analogies in period literature. It examines textile depictions found on monuments, in sculpture, in paintings, and on manuscripts. But in its fourteen chapters this volume manages to convey a cohesive and encompassing view of textiles in the medieval period. It offers the reader not only interesting facts, but the authors' excellent work convincingly connects the dots so as to give clothing a life of its own in the context of the times.

Chapters such as Dressing the Part, From Content to Form and Marie de France's Bisclavret deliver both sides of the coin: we are what we wear as well as wearing what we are entitled due to class structure. Without clothes, Bisclaveret is a wolf, un-recognizable; with clothes he is a nobleman, although Gloria Thomas Gilmore discusses the balance of both sides of the coin. Does form follow function, or is function a result of the form?

In Christ as a Windblown Sleeve, Margarita Yanson explores the changing costumes within Gottried von Strassburg's Tristan where changes in clothing mark the complexity of the main character, Tristan. Simularly, in As Proud as a Dog in a Doublet, Linda Anderson sees costume as an integral part of the play. On the other hand, The Margaret Fitzgerald Tomb Effegy comments on the strong nationalism in the dress of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, when adherance to national norms was seen as akin to patriotic act, and changing one's dress could be seen as treason and situates the effegy within the context of the time.

The chapters written by the editors are pivotal and act to anchor the rest of the book. Snyder's work discusses not only the sculpural forms in the column-figures and document seals in great detail, but in discussing the dress pictured from England to Germany it provides both an overview and excellent detail. Inserted between two chapters that draw from literary sources, the sharp images of the columns offer the mind a break as the detail is made visible to the eye as well as to the mind. Désirée Koslin's chapter touches on materials, dyes, weaving, finishing and meaning of cloth and clothing. Even through its title the final chapter is an overview and a case study. In many ways, it rounds out and sums up the book in a very satisfactory manner.

From art and legal manuscripts to archeological evidence and period documents the authors describe dress and its importance in great detail. The rich description plus the illustrations paint a lucid image of the clothing of the time in detail suitable for recreating the costumes discussed, while the discussion of the meaning of such explores timeless issues regarding the role of clothing and cloth in society and the lives of individuals. Black and white images throughout illustrate the chapters, and a seven page glossary makes terms that may be unfamiliar to some understandable without reaching for the dictionary, and a comprehensive index makes revisiting bits of information a breeze. Although this book is aimed at the student of the medieval period, and specifically at someone interested in the dress of the period, those interested in philosophy and dress in general can see parallels throughout the ages making this a book of value. Reading this book has made me think about dress more closely, not only in a historical context, but also while people-watching, and in movies such as the Matrix trilogy where dress has layers of meaning.

Ergonomic Living : How to Create a User-Friendly Home & Office

Ergonomic Living : How to Create a User-Friendly Home & OfficeThis trade paperback is chock full of practical advice and downright wisdom. It tells us how to structure home and office to fit the human body, all its limitations and wondrous powers. Ergonomic Living follows its own advice such that form follows function and use.

The book has two major sections, home and office. There are eleven chapters: How to Enter Your Home, How to Relax, The Inner Circle. Each briefly introduces a series of concise, well-designed modules: The Deafening Kitchen, Wiring and Cables, Effective Ambient Lighting, Choosing the Right Pillow. The photos and illustrations are excellent. "You have a right to an ergonomic kitchen in which your personal needs, both physical and mental, come first." The authors show you how to exercise that right. Right on!

For many parents, the chapter on creating a child-friendly home will, by itself, be worth the price of the whole book.

My edition is a little out of date on some things, but the principles remain sound, the information useful. For example, someone ready to buy a DVD recorder will profit from the section on selecting a VCR. The summary still applies: "Difficult to memorize controls are never used. Remotes keyed to newspaper codes will be used frequently. Remotes keyed to instruction booklet diagrams will be ignored. Tactile well balanced [sic] remotes will remain near your hand. Slippery, flat remotes will end up on the floor. Basic controls should be immediately obvious."

_Ergonomic Living_ is a warm, pragmatic and, yes, wise book. It concludes, "Change, movement and grace. This is a friendly world; we built it, and now we have the tools to live in it on your own terms. We can choose to inhabit healthful, comfortable environments, amicable places that serve our needs. We can be the masters of our own possessions, the actors on a human-centered stage. We can feel good all day."

Whether you are new to the home office or a seasoned pro, this brilliant book can help you feel better all day.

This book was given to me yesterday and I have read the entire book and still can't put it down! Everything in ERGONOMIC LIVING makes sense and causes one to ponder why they had not thought of these common sense revelations sooner. I especially enjoyed chapter 3, How to Prepare Food, where the authors actually show diagrams of Ergonomic Kitchens and walks the reader through The Kitchen Test. Chapter 4 was another favorite, How to Relax, where the author states "You don't deserve to be tormented by your own hard-won possessions." This book is a must for new homeowners; I'm buying a copy for my daughter right now.

While I did learn several things about ergonomics, I finally put the book down when I got tired of the preaching. Many of the author's topics were not on subject and, instead, were rantings about the time we spend watching television or other pet peeves of the authors. It got really old. I was looking forward to learning how to design my home. I didn't need the nagging. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
