Total Yoga: A Step-By-Step Guide to Yoga at Home for Everybody

Total Yoga: A Step-By-Step Guide to Yoga at Home for EverybodyThis is my one of my favorite yoga books... it explains about lines of energy, chakras, the different types of yoga and Hatha Yoga, and of course, is full of some basic poses. It also includes some sequences for different occasions, included the classic Sun Salute. The nice thing about this book is that it also has clearly explained breathing exersizes, and what the do. It also has a nice intro to meditation, and includes severla different meditatoin techniques to introduce you to this idea. Of course, if you don't take classes, you SHOULD start taking them, and even if you do, this book will help you with your own at home rutine. Overall, a good little book.

I am a Yoga teacher, and I recommend this book for home practice. The point of Yoga is to turn inward, and really feel what your body is doing, and what your body needs. In classes, we tend to get competitive, which really hinders our practice. This book is a great way to learn poses to do at home, and without having someone there yapping at you the entire time, you tend to really FEEL the poses. I think classes are important to learn postures and how the corrected posture feels, but I encourage people to have a home practice as well. This book is wonderful.... big pictures makes it easy to use while practicing, and a few different series of Asana's in the back help guide you through an at home class. The basic meditation helps people start to understand how to quiet the mind, and the Chakra info is wonderful! Namaste!

Love this book. First saw it at a spa I visited. I like the layout and pictures which show you the correct forms. The part I like the best are the "sequence of asanas" at the back with suggested asanas for morning, evening, gentle and strong sequence. Well done.

When I bought this yoga book, I didn't have much expectations other than to learn the various poses properly. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a delightful yoga book. It is reader friendly and, while aimed at those who have no background on yoga, it does not dumb down the principles of yoga at all. It explains in a nonsensical and in a neutral tone what yoga is and the instructions on the poses are clear. It has suggested sample practices to help guide the reader in eventually building their own practice. I love the huge photos to supplement the instructions. Best of all, while it is larger than most books (hence the larger photos), it is not too thick or heavy for me to carry around. I've even brought it to ski resorts so I can practice.

TY is a super book for anyone interested in the many facets of yoga. Tara Fraser does a good job of including information on history, texts, chakras, diet, asanas and more, without becoming long-winded. She efficiently draws out the foundational material and sculpts a great info-guide to yoga. The asana depictions are clear and easy to follow, and she gives modifications for beginners/experts. Tara also includes some good partner-poses as well. It's a large book but lays flat for easy reference while practicing. I've used this book more than any of the several others I own. While TY is not written for a guru, it's a great book for beginners and intermediates.

Custom Gunstock Carving

Custom Gunstock CarvingI recently attended an NRA sponsored class in woodcarving and checkering. This book goes beyond what I learned, which is exactly what I was looking for. If you are interested in carving gunstocks, this is a must have book.

I realize that I made assumptions, based on other reviews, that this publication might run me through the process of carving a stock from a block of wood, and in particular, checkering it doesn't. The writer assumes that you have a gunstock that you'd like to carve Deer or Elephants into with an Exacto blade, and only mentions checkering as an aside, as in (not a quote!), your stock may or may not have checkering on it I wanted to throw it against the wall. The patterns may be useful to those interested in carving them, and the carving exercises could prove helpful to anyone new to working a blade on wood. Live and learn

The Official Nutrition Education Association Home Study Course in the New Nutrition: 12 Individual L

The Official Nutrition Education Association Home Study Course in the New Nutrition: 12 Individual LessonsWhen I went back to school for a Clinical Nutrition degree this was the first book I had to read. When I received it in the mail I thumbed through it and my first thought was, "What have I got myself into? This looks so boring". This turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read in the nutrition world. It is set up to test at the end of each chapter, but one can ignore this if you want to read for enjoyment purposes only. I still find myself going back and rereading a section every now and again because it explains the process so simply.

If you truly want to begin to learn how the organs work with each other and how food comes into play and travels through the body's system this is it. I think this book is for someone who really has a passion for nutrition or has a deep desire to learn to heal themselves on a very beginner level. One must always take what makes sense to them out of each book they read and create their own teaching method.

This book was written some time ago and there may be some minor changes in the nutrition world, but this book still holds its own and I highly recommend it for the passionate learner.

Natural Facelift

Natural FaceliftMy best friend gave me Juliette Kando's NATURAL FACELIFT for my birthday saying it had helped her and I should try it. I had noticed that she had been looking fresher and younger lately and now she told me how she had done it. 'You just read the book and get into doing the exerises' she said so I did. That was three weeks ago and I have never looked back. The thing that worried me most was that I was beginning to get bags under my eyes. I looked up the exercises for it and they really work. My eyes are more open as well now. I also had deep neck wrinkles and they have all gone now. Brilliant! The exercises are easy to follow and the author encourages you all the way. Well, with the excellent results, you just don't want to stop. People have been complementing me, asking me if I'm in love or if I've been on holiday because I look so much more happy and relaxed and, yes, younger. I want to strongly recommend this book to anyone who is worrried about losing their looks. It also lifts your morale because the practise works on a psychological level as the author says and I find that to be very true. Doing Juliette Kando's facial exercises is much better (and cheaper) than going for cosmetic surgery which, like Kando says, only damages your skin. So hurry, go and buy the NATURAL FACELIFT by Juliette Kando and enjoy, it really is a brilliant book.

I am in the market for a book on this topic, but too many of these reviews seem faked up -multiple reviews by Charlotte from London; exact same wording submitted under different names. At this point, I don't care if the book is any good or not -your overkill has cost you a sale.

A few months ago my wife said that I was getting old. I am 45. When I looked in the mirror I noticed that she was right, my face was hanging almost like a bulldog and I noticed many wrinkles below my eyes and around my mouth. I told a friend about it in the pub after a few drinks and he suggested I buy Juliette Kando's Natural Facelift. 'But men don't do that sort of thing' I said to him. 'You'd be surprised' he replied. So I went and got the book and began doing the exercises. Not too difficult, they are explained in detail and illustrated so I soon got the hang of it. Now that I have been doing them regularly, and learning the more advanced ones, I am very pleased with the results. My face has fewer wrinkles and looks fitter and happier. My wife noticed the difference in my face and has now also started doing the Natural Facelift exercises. We recommend it to anyone who wants to age gracefully.

I also am wondering if all the positive reviews are legitimate. I went to the bookstore to check it out & found the book to be fairly useless. Lots of text & needless exercises for the body. The few exercises listed for the face had unclear photos that are not very helpful. I say save your money or you might be very disappointed.

Therapeutic Exercises Using the Swiss Ball

Therapeutic Exercises Using the Swiss BallI love using this book. It is very easy to read and follow directions. The book offers both beginning and advanced exercises that are very fun to perform. This book is a valuable tool in the clinical setting due to the ease of making a home exercise program. I recommend it to anyone wanting to use swiss balls for alternative exercises.

My therapist recommended this book for me to use in my own rehab program after I had finished 6 months of formal rehab for spinal rod and disc surgery. There are different levels of difficulty. My therapist was kind enough to go thru and mark the exercises accordingly and it has greatly extended my range of motion and flexibility without undue stress on the rest of my body. I am imobile from the neck to the waist and I use these exercises everyday. I would highly recommend this in conjunction with a prescribed phisical therapy rehad program

First Aid Manual

First Aid ManualIt shows how classic some information is and some things don't change. But others do change. CPR techniques had changes especially after learning about the AED+CPR technique from Singapore Armed Forces. How to handle cuts are too simple to have much changes and the main differences is the multitude of products to do first aids or the personal preferences of the first aider.

I am now a trained military medic and this book gives comprehensive information that balances well for beginners and yet not to be a dull reading for the experts. Lots of pictures and clear simple explanation is really the mark of DK books so it is difficult for me let it go until I learn much of CPR had changed and being a medic (for myself) for almost a decade means I can finally let this go. I believe I have enough of experience that I did not have when I was in high school. Graduated from it but perhaps I will need an updated version after 15 years.
