The Body Sculpting Bible Express for Women: 21 Minutes a Day to Physical Perfection

The Body Sculpting Bible Express for Women: 21 Minutes a Day to Physical PerfectionThis book works well for me. I have also used his previous book Body Sculpting Bible for Women plus I have done weight training for many years. I'm not sure how this would be for a beginner as it is pretty fast paced, but if you're used to weight training and exercise in general and are looking to vary your routine, then this should work well for you.

I love this book. I'll be honest, what attracted me most was the fact you only need to do exercises for 21 minutes every day.

I enjoy activities like cycling and hill climbing, but exercises I do mostly to tone my body, not for fun.

I was looking for exercises that are easy to do, I can do preferably from the home, and don't take up too much time. I tried to combine exercises from various books I had, but as I did not really know if I made the right combinations I was soon discouraged.

The great thing about this book is that it has already done all that for me. The exercses are clearly explained and the photos are helpful too. But more, there is a whole exercise plan already made up.

You start with 21 mins of exercise every day for a period of 21 days. On the days when you do abs exercises, you only do 8 mins of exercises, the rest of the 21 mins you can fill with the cardio activity of your choice. This is perfect for someone like me who has had little training of abs.

After 21 days, you get a more flexible training plan and you don't have to exercise every day although it is recommended. There is a lot of variety in the exercises and if you follow the routine your whole body gets toned. I am thinking of getting another book in this series to throw even more exercises in the mix.

I gave this book five stars because the essential part of the book are the exercises and the exercise routines, and I love these very much.

However, the book as a whole is not perfect. The section of nutrition is too hard to follow and also rather fussy for someone who is just trying to get fit. This does not matter much to me because I got the book for the exercises and I follow my own nutrition rules (which is basically just trying to eat healthy)

Also, I think it is wrong to assume that this book is suitable for absolute beginners.

I recommend this book to everyone who has had a bit of exercise before and is looking for an effective way to tone the whole body in little time.

I wonder how much trial and effort is behind this book? From what I read in this well-illustrated, plainly-written guide I think this is not a bodily-improvement manual for the average woman and is more suited to someone who is already a fitness and health fanatic. I'm trying to incorporate a few exercises here into my morning yoga but I don't think I'd embrace the entire program. That's just me, though. I don't think anything presented here will harm anyone but it's also not going to be easy enough that anyone can pick up this book, read a few chapters and get going to where she'd see immediate benefit. I guess what I'm saying is the jury is still out on this since I've only had it six days and it's too severe and intimidating for just anyone to get major use from it. But, again, that's just my opinion and the important thing about any exercise or body enhancement project is to simply GET MOVING. If this helps with that then it's done what it's supposed to do. Best of luck on your road to betterment!

For my background, I have done weight training off and on for many years. While I agree with the others that this book is written for a women with some weight training experience, a person in reasonable shape who took it slow could also benefit from this book.

I used this book in my second trimester of my pregnancy to get back into shape after being sick for 3 months and was not able to exercise much. I got back into shape fast much to the help of using exercises from the book.

I love how it combined workouts and had many great pictures to illustrate to exercises. A must have for busy women who want to be in good shape but don't have a lot of time to spend in the gym.

Next to Nothing: A Firsthand Account of One Teenager's Experience with an Eating Disorder (Annenberg

Next to Nothing: A Firsthand Account of One Teenager's Experience with an Eating DisorderIf you are looking for a book that tells a little bit about what an eating disorder is like, giving a pretty accurate depiction in very few pages, and then focuses for the duration on treatment, this is the book for you. Carrie describes her experience with an eating disorder in about 25 pages, and then spends the next 120 pages talking about treatment, the options available, explaining the medical diagnostic side, tips during treatment, etc. If you are someone with an eating disorder that has decided to recover, someone that knows someone with an eating disorder and want to help them recover, or just want to find out about the treatment process, this book is perfect. However, if you want a book that truly describes "a firsthand account of one teenager's experience with an eating disorder" go read Wasted by Marya Hornbacher.

While this book was well written, and didn't have anything technically wrong with it (although I must say I quit reading shortly after she started talking about treatment, so I can't give a fully accurate review), the title is misleading. It isn't a book about her experience with an ED. It is all about treatment. I didn't want a book on treatment. I wanted a book on what it was like to have an eating disorder.

Know what you want to get out of the book, and then you will know if this is the book for you or not.

This book offers wonderful support and information to those suffering from an eating disorder as well as to the family and friends trying to help their loved one. The style is very engaging and easy to read, with lots of practical advice. The author draws upon her own experiences along the way. But, at the same time it includes the latest in scientific research and findings, in language that is very understandable. "Next to Nothing" has it all, and is a must read for those looking to understand the complicated world of eating disorders.

If you've struggled, or know someone who struggles with an eating disorder, this a book that can help you realize that you're not alone and that there IS help. I should know, I've struggled with them since I was a teenager, but have overcome them.

It can happen :-)

The Herbal Medicine Cabinet: Preparing Natural Remedies at Home

The Herbal Medicine Cabinet: Preparing Natural Remedies at HomeThis book is exactly what I was looking for. As a student of altenative medicine, this will be a great addition to my "health library". There is a check list for one's herbal first aid kit/medicine cabinet, very concise and easy to follow directions, a little history of the herbs, a list of ailments and what to use. The ingredients for the most part are easy to get your hands on and if you can't seem to find what you are looking for--there is an extensive resource guide that includes everything Debra St Claire has discussed in the book! Lip balms, salves, deodorants, mouth washes, baby products---you name it and you will most likely find it in this book. If I were to choose one book to start me on the path to health altenatives, this would be the one I would choose. Five star? No. How about a six!

Debra St. Claire (formerly Debra Nuzzi) did a series of videos with a book inside of it that was the basis for this book. Ms. St. Claire expanded the material and has made a very easy to understand and accessible book for both the beginner and advanced medicine maker. I had the pleasure of seeing Debra at Herfest a couple of years ago, and she is a fantastic teacher! This book is certainly something every herbalist or anyone interested in natural healing should own.

I am a clinical herbalist of over 20 years experience and I have recommended it for years to beginning herbalists. I find this to be one of the best texts for learning how to make tinctures, syrups, lozenges, lip balms, salves, and other preparations. Debra St. Claire uses easy to find ingredients, takes you step by step through preparation and gives you good solid recipes. She shows you how to do the tincture math so that your preparations don't mold. (If you intend to pour vodka over mint or lemon balm leaves you better know how much water is in the leaves! And if you want to get the resins out of St.John's Wort, you better have access to high alcohol like Everclear or Baccardi 151.)

This is the ultimate, hands-on herbal and will either be sufficient for family treatment or stand as a first step for people who want to learn western herbalism. I also suggest it for Chinese herbology students who don't learn all of the hands on techniques outside of decoction. Well worth the money.

Get a Whiff of This: Perfumes (fragrances) -- the Invisible Chemical Poisons

Get a Whiff of This: Perfumes -- the Invisible Chemical PoisonsPeople have been wearing perfumes and using various other scented products for decades. What changed? Perfumes are *not* made from natural sources, nor are they safe, as falsely advertised to be. They contain hundreds of deleterious chemicals, having maimed and disabled millions of people -people of all ages. Given the fact that perfumes do no bear warning labels, I wrote this book in hopes to educate people about the truth behind an industry that has no regard for health and a government that condones it. Please read my book and demand safer products. You and you children deserve much better. Perfumes are only nice if you enjoy slathering yourself in greasy petrochemicals, neurotoxins, hazardous waste and nearly 100 carcinogens, just to mention a few of their products' contents. Get a Whiff of This will enlighten you to the truth. Personally, I wish someone would have informed me years ago, as I'm a former perfume user.

A must read. I've spoken against all the perfumed scents and cleaners always and my words seemed always to fall on deaf ears. All scents of every kind make me instantly ill; yet, people will respond to me, "Oh, I like that." If you read the real truth exposed in Connie Pitts' book, you will help clean the air we all breathe. Those sents truly do belong in the toxic waste dump as she says. How many people had to die from cigarettes and asbestos before those items were finally touted. Scents is a multi-billion dollar business and government agencies do not want to speak out against constituents desires; they are willing to let millions die and cost health insurance mega millions, individual costs skyrocket, pain and suffering continue to perpetuate the sale of the poison odors! Read this book, please, then help expose the real truth about the scents poisoning our air.

I did purchase the book on Amazon! Absolutely awesome and informative Book.

Wonderful book full of truth, and don't we all love those books? Unfortunately, half of us will refuse to accept the truth and "blame" other people for our problems. The problem is that half of us create disease in our bodies from eating the wrong foods or using the wrong "beauty" products. Products like perfumes, aftershaves, deodorants, body creams, and sprays are so poisonous to the body's natural equilibrium. I would love for this book to be advertised on TV. Man oh Man how that would cause some controversy amongst the big pharma companies who dish out all this poisonous crap! in fact, when I win big on the lottery or sell enough of my own books, I will sponsor Connie in any which way she would love to market her book.

Anyhow, I too are extra sensitive to chemicals, even in foods. I use soap on my hair, body, and face, and Neem cream moisturiser from The Neem People. Ghanian Black Soap is my staple, and I make my own skin scrubs using natural coconut oil, raw shea butter, and natural cane sugar. It's wonderful and my skin smells lush. Natural essential oils fragrance my home, and I have stopped using Mr Muscle and Cillit Bang and just use basic water and 10-20 drops of lemon and lime essential oils. Just shows how much scare mongering goes on in advertisements to persuade people to buy the product. I feel healthier than ever, although I do suffer from migraines as my body is so sensitive to outside pollutants. Great job Connie.

Imagine yourself basically a prisoner in your own home because of all the toxic chemicals in fragrances of products used everywhere we go! The author of this book describes her gradual build-up of becoming intolerant of fragrance. She used perfumes, scented candles, lotions, etc...and has ended up not being able to go out of her home because of the horrible reactions she has to the toxic fragrances! This is a scary book...but any one of us could face the same situation! A very important book...now, I think about it every time someone walks past with strong perfume or any other type of scent...thanks to the author for enlightening us!

Every woman worries about getting breast cancer because there is such a high incidence rate in this country: NINE out of TEN women will get breast cancer. One has to wonder why; certainly, our doctors can't (or maybe "won't") tell us. After reading this book, it makes perfect "scents." I never knew perfume, cologne and products that have "fragrance" in them contain deadly carcinogens (in fact, the very same ones found in tobacco smoke). This book contains convincing and legitimate scientific and medical data confirming that fragrance chemicals are also composed of neurotoxins and teratogens (which cause birth defects).

I also was educated as to why so many people have asthma, RADS and migraine headaches.

The unequivocal evidence presented in this book reveals the fragrance industry has been testing its chemical products on US -the unsuspecting consumer -and, despite the industry's mass fortune, the results of their "roll of the dice" have been debilitating illness, disability and death to millions of innocent, unaware people. The fragrance industry has violated every federal law, including the Toxic Substances Control Act, and, as usual, our government has done NOTHING to protect the public.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I read the entire book in one day because it captured my attention 100%. Immediately after reading this book, I threw away every bottle of perfume and all products that had "fragrance" listed on the label. Folks, we're talking about pure POISON -far worse than pesticides -and we're putting it right on our skin which makes it go directly into our bloodstream, and then we are forced to inhale it in the same manner as second-hand smoke. At least tobacco smoke can be avoided in the majority of public places, but perfume vapors are ubiquitous and completely unavoidable, especially in places where they should be banned, such as hospitals and medical facilities.

I encourage every woman and man to read this book in order to protect your health and that of your children and loved ones, then share it with everyone you know who wears fragrances. After reading this book, I guarantee you will be OUTRAGED ... Contact your local and state representatives and, most importantly, the FDA and DEMAND that the FDA punish this unscrupulous industry for its heinous crimes against mankind. We are human beings, not guinea pigs.

AND, FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHATEVER YOU DO -DON'T BUY THE PERSON YOU LOVE A BOTTLE OF PERFUME OR COLOGNE FOR CHRISTMAS!!!

Essential Abs: An Intense 6-Week Program (Men's Health Peak Conditioning Guides)

Essential Abs: An Intense 6-Week ProgramI purchased about 10 books from Amazon on abs in order to compare them. This one is a rather simplistic book. It's like an enlarged Men's Health magazine article. If all you want is a book that tells you exactly what to do for a specific time period, you'll be better off with The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs, which has more information as well as a DVD. Here's my conclusion from comparing books...

If You Want to Trim Your Waistline: You can't trim your waistline without losing fat, and you can't lose fat around your waist without losing it everywhere (focusing on a muscle group like the abdominal muscles doesn't burn fat in that location, just a little bit of fat from everywhere on the body). So, if you want to trim your waistline, skip the ab workout books and go with a good, proven overall weight loss and fitness book like Bill Phillips' Body for Life. The Abs Diet is a similar program, but like all the Men's Health publications, it advertises a 6-week transformation, which is just a little unrealistic. Plan on more like 12-24 weeks to see really noticeable changes if you are fat.

If You Want Sculpted Six-Pack Abs: If you are overweight at all, see above--you can't get a six pack while you're overweight, and you can't lose abdominal fat by doing an ab workout, so go for overall fitness. However, if you are already lean, see below.

If You Want to Strengthen or Build Your Ab Muscles: If you're trying to improve for work, play, or rehab, you might consider the following books: The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs Deluxe DVD Edition contains decently up-to-date information and tells you exactly what to do and when to do it, based on a six-week fitness course. If you're looking for a similar book with more information, you can choose from The Complete Book of Abs or The Complete Book of Core Training. The Complete Book of Abs (1998) is a little out of date in terms of its dietary/nutritional recommendations, but it focuses more on exercises that develop the external abdominal muscles (the ones you see in a six-pack), including lots of variations on leg lifts, bicycle motion, and sit-ups. It will also give you more resources for creating your own program, and, if that's what you want to do, go with this one instead of The Body Sculpting Bible. The Complete Book of Core Training (2006) focuses more on the functional body core, including internal abdominal muscles, legs, etc., and includes more trendy exercises using medicine balls, exercise balls, yoga, etc. A different sort of book is Stronger Abs and Back (1997), which was written before the current fad of selling "core training," but contains the elements of core training because it gives good functional sports-focused advice. Its dietary recommendations are out of date, but it recommends a 24-week workout plan, which is much more realistic than the 6-week plans advocated by many of the other books.

If You Have Back Pain: See your doctor, and if he prescribes abdominal/core strengthening, see above.

My one-book recommendation: Body for Life.

My two-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back.

My three-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back + The Complete Book of Abs.

My four-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back + The Complete Book of Abs + The Abs Diet.

Hope this helps!!

I am 5'9" 200, not a thin guy. Used a low carb diet to lose 10 pounds along with this program and in 2 weeks could see real results. My waist is smaller and I see definition in my abdominal area for the first time since my military college days, 35 years ago. The exercises are very well-described, not unusually difficult, and can be done on a living room floor with no equipment. You feel and see the results immediately. I usually complete the third level in 15 minutes. I have never written an online review before but was so pleased with this book and the results I felt that I should. For me it was money well-spent.

The book delivers what it promises: An Intense Six-week program to train your Abs from every angle. But this book is more than just an Abs workout, it is a small, handy and complete reference with useful information that includes: essential physiology, flexibility stretches, and essential techniques.

Probably you wont get ripped in just six weeks, but from my experience I can tell you that the program really works, so in six weeks you will increase your abdominal strength and resistance, and of course you will certainly loss belly fat and get a better definition.

If you are interested in a more comprehensive coverage of ABS exercises and workouts, you may want to check "The Complete ABS" by the same author.

Having already achieved the first four chapters of the book may make my opinion biased. That written, it's a great guide, with lots of photos, a well-directed course toward progressively more advanced workouts, and tips on whether you are doing the exercises correctly and how to make adjustments if you are missing the mark. Having been through a serious back injury and a very seriously fractured foot (AND NEITHER WERE FUN!), I read LOTS of rehab and exercise materials. Essential Abs is definitely the best excercise pub I've read. And, as a lanky female, it's been a stitch to read a book written for men. A gentleman at my health club recommended it to me -and, he definitely looks in great shape. So, you just received a book review and a woman's view on whether Essential Abs is worth putting your money where your stomach is!

Want Essential Abs: An Intense 6-Week Program (Men's Health Peak Conditioning Guides) Discount?

I was a Teaching Fellow in Physiology in graduate school, did additional graduate study in biochemistry and at one time worked as a personal trainer. I am also someone who has had my share of injuries, including a herniated disk. When I reviewed this book, I did so through this lens and as one who has some direct knowledge of the area being explored.

In my opinion, this book is a REAL jewel. It is short, but it covers a progressive, logical and safe routine for building outstanding abs. In addition, it includes good information about combining abdominal training with aerobics, weight lifting and reasonable diet tips.

In addition to the above, the book is written in an easy to follow, upbeat manner. It is encouraging and provides enough detail on how to do exercises properly. This is probably the only abs book you will ever need.

Two other books that may be of interest are: Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back and Neck Pain Relief and Build Muscle Lose Fat Look Great: Everything You Need to Know to Transform Your Body. I recommend the former for people with back issues and the latter for people who want more in-depth coverage of weight training.

Overall... this book is a GREAT place to start a fitness program that is easy to impliment, stick to and get good results. In my opinion, it's all you need to get started and it will take you fairly far by itself. There isn't any hype here, just good information packed into a small package.
