Feeding the Hungry Ghost: Life, Faith, and What to Eat for Dinner - A Satisfying Diet for Unsatisfyi

Feeding the Hungry Ghost: Life, Faith, and What to Eat for Dinner - A Satisfying Diet for Unsatisfying TimesFeeding the Hungry Ghost by Ellen Kanner is about cooking great food, and savoring the experience of a good meal with family and friends. The recipes included are vegan, but that doesn't mean you have to be in order to enjoy them. Try the recipes, enjoy the stories, and have fun and truly enjoy food again.

Feeding the Hungry Ghost is a beautiful mixture of stories with recipes to feed your body and soul. This is a vegan book that reminds us that food is meant to be shared with family and friends, and enjoyed. Food is good and even better when it is bought locally when it is in season.

Although the author does stress going vegan, it is not something that is for everyone. However, everyone can enjoy the recipes and stories included in the book. Make some of the recipes for yourself and see if you like them, and want to incorporate them into your meals throughout the seasons.

Some of my favorite recipes included in the book:

* Lavender Tea

* Down and Dirty Rice

* Unconventional but Seductive Veggie Paella

* Moroccan Carrot Salad

I enjoyed reading this book and discovering some truly new and tasty recipes. If you like food (and honestly, who doesn't?), try this book and the recipes in it. I highly recommend it.

* Thank you to the publisher of Feeding the Hungry Ghost, New World Library, for providing me with a copy of this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

In all honesty, I tend to read recipes in a cookbook more than the book itself. That would be a mistake with this book. It really is a book about eating, the role that food plays in being happy and healthy (not self medicating with food, nurturing your soul with food and the process of creating serious food). A lot of the recipes feature ingredients that do not nurture my soul particularly well, but many do. I am not going to list the recipes I like because I really think you should read the book not jump to the food that speaks to me. This book is personal, comes across as authentic and encourages a healthy relationship with your food. It is also well written. What more can I say beyond "read this book."

What a great book! This is somewhat of a self-help recipe book. It's not your typical recipe book and it's not meant to be. Ellen Kanner provides the reader with the most wonderful stories that surround the recipes and they blend so well to feed not just your body but your very soul. It's a fun read. The recipes are easy and inspiring. Although I am a cook, I believe this book will inspire anyone who reads it to take time to cook delicious food. Bringing back the ritual of breaking bread with those you want to be with is really quite easy and this book shows you that you can do that for yourself and those you are with in a way that does not consume a lot of time at all.

Thanks to the book i am following the taking herbs, vitamins, better eating, have been feeling soo much better but not quite there yet. I read that it can take a long time to get there, but thanks to these books i am on my way

Somewhat repetitive with other books under the same author. But good as an "only" read and very much suited the purpose for which I bought it.

The Dry Eye Remedy: The Complete Guide to Restoring the Health and Beauty of Your Eyes

The Dry Eye Remedy: The Complete Guide to Restoring the Health and Beauty of Your EyesPros:

-It offers comprehensive and up-to-date info (as of the date of its publication) about the latest in dry eyes.

-It offers all-around practical advice to dry eye patients who may have otherwise lost hope.

-The depth in which the topics are covered seems just right for most patients.

Minor cons:

-Artificial tears (such as most Genteal brands) that contain special non-irritating or disappearing preservatives were not emphasized strongly enough. IMO, such drops are better than those that are entirely without preservatives, because preservatives after all do serve a useful and obvious function. Drops without preservatives often come in single-use vials and are therefore harder to deal with if you want to reuse them for cost effectiveness.

-Alleged homeopathic remedies are presented in a largely neutral or optimistic view, but the scientific fact is that homeopathic drugs are bogus and don't really have any medical effect beyond that of placebo. As such, the book was somewhat complacent towards homeopathy, and I feel that this takes away from proper scientifically or empirically sound remedies.

-There are a few minor typos that seem like they could have easily been caught prior to publication with a bit of extra effort.

-There is no hardcover version.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone experiencing the condition, although if you do read it, it's always better to let this not be the only book you read about the topic. There are other good recent books on the topic that you also may want to read afterwards, both to reinforce the important points and to learn other info.

Board-certified ophthalmologist and founder/director of the Dry Eye Clinic Robert Latkany presents The Dry Eye Remedy: The Complete Guide to Restoring the Health and Beauty of Your Eyes, a guide written especially to help the 77 million Americans (and millions of others worldwide) who suffer from "dry eye", also known as dysfunctional tear syndrome. Often beginning as a minor irritation, dry eye causes lines, wrinkles, bags, and redness, and traditional remedies such as eyelid surgery or eyedrops can potentially make the problem worse. Offering recommendations to improve eye health and appearance without resorting to surgery, The Dry Eye Remedy includes advice for improving one's home environment, proper nutrition, how to set up a "home eye spa", which over-the-counter remedies are harmful, the pros and cons of medical treatments such as hormone therapy or punctal plugs, and a guide to deciding upon the dry eye therapy that works best for the reader. A list of resources and an index round out this solid guide, accessible to readers of all backgrounds, and highly recommended for anyone who cherishes their eyes.

I am so glad I ordered this book. I was having a lot of pain and discomfort and had been to three different eye doctors with no success. After reading The Dry Eye Remedy I felt hopeful that my condition could be treated and managed successfully. Because of the suggestion to stay with the restasis treatment for several weeks, I am virtually symptom free and feel as if I have my life back.

I only wish Dr. Latkany had written this book 10 years ago when I first began noticing symptoms of dry eye related to a thyroid condition and excessive computer use. With his commonsense approach to healing, Dr. Latkany explains how lifestyle changes and medical treatments can work together to combat this modern day plague. Following the excellent suggestions in this book for only a few days, I've already noticed significant improvement.

My eyes have been watering for months. I tried over the counter remedies as well as a Restasis prescription from my doctor. The Restasis worked for a while but never really completely got rid of the problem.

I tried TheraTears mentioned in the book and although it said it would take 4-8 weeks to be effective, I noticed a lot of relief in just three weeks. It's a natural way to go, and I much prefer that to drugs.

I finally think I've found what I was looking for.

The Medical Advisor: The Complete Guide to Alternative & Conventional Treatments : Home Edition

The Medical Advisor: The Complete Guide to Alternative & Conventional Treatments : Home EditionI have several other medical books, but as far as diagnosing symptoms, this is the best. You can find an entire chart for arm pain or something like that, then you can check out possible diseases. With other books, you need to know what you have first. I also like how the book is set up. You read about the symptoms and which ones require medical attention, then you read about possible causes, and cure options -both traditional and alternative. I also use this book to check my medications, since there is an extensive list in the back. And I love the pictures of the body in the back -which aided me in realizing I probably had a swollen gland and not a cancerous lump. I wish they would do an updated version of this book. Colleagues at work are forever asking me to "bring in your book," to diagnosed their families. It's must-have home reference. (I need to add that I have the hardback version, and I am assuming the paperback is the same.)

I bought this book for my sister-in-law for Christmas 3 years ago and have been wanting one for myself ever since. This book is the most informational medical book for non-medical persons I have ever used.

I first came across this book from a friend. I thought it will be a good reference book, and that's what it actually is. It gives you a general idea of certain aches and pains that you encounter in your day to day life. This books helps you to take some initial remedial measures before wasting your time at the Doctors. I say this because some of the illness can be overcome without pumping a lot of pills into your system. This book is good to understand your body, its illness and take care of it.
