How I Gave Up My Low-Fat Diet and Lost 40 Pounds (Revised and Expanded Edition)

How I Gave Up My Low-Fat Diet and Lost 40 PoundsI'm Thai. I'm 25,male and i weight 110 kg.

I've tried to lose my weight for many years, but i can't! I'm a food addict!

I bought this book in Kindle version.

after I finish reading it, I decided to follow this method.

And it's work! I lost 5 kg in a month even I ate a lot of food more than you can imagine!!!

... but It's not the best news for me yet!

I also went to hospital to check up my health.

My sugar level back to normal! And I had a really really bad level of SGPT in the last time. Normal people should has it around 0 50. but me, 277 !!

(I don't drink any alcohol by the way, doctor said I had too much fat in my liver and should avoid fat)

After I followed this low-carb diet and then I re-check it again.. AMAZING! My SGPT level decreased from 277 to 70!

And I did eat FAT! A lot of fat (sorry doctor). It's so amazing

I want to say more about a lot of good things of this book and this method. But my english is not very well. -"

So for summary, I can say that ... "This book is one of the best things in my life" ^ ^

"KORB-KUN"

in thai it mean...

Thank you, really thank you.

UPDATE : 2/7/2012

I checked up my health again on 8/2/2012 and wanna share the result.

Sugar : 84 N : 70100

Uric Acid : 7.5 N : 2.6 7.2 ( I think I ate too much chicken -")

Cholesterol : 153 N : 150 200 (I eat 3-4 whole eggs everyday but It's still fine!)

Triglyceride : 48 N : 50 -150

HDL-C : 43 N : 32 68

LDL-C : 89 N : 0 -130

SGPT : 32 N : 0-40 (This is the one I used to have 277, and It's normal now ^^)

Before I tried this method, many people told me that LC is unnatural... how can we cut carb in every meal?! (and yes,in Thailand White rice is our main food)

But after everyone see my result. They all ask me how to do it now. lol

I bought this book after trying a few different diets to get off the weight I gained when I quit smoking. I really only wanted to lose about 30 lbs. and had accepted that after age 30 I would just be fatter than I was at 20. I was wrong. I lost 75 lbs. and have my high school body back at age 40. I could not be more ecstatic. My energy level has increased exponentially. I couldn't believe it. You can take information from the diets explained in this book and customize to your own needs. It is not difficult and I have never been starving on this diet like I have on every other diet. Giving up sugar is the hardest part for me, but I still indulge..just much less often. I started this diet about a year and half ago and have not gained any of the weight back.

I am a born sceptic. I also have been obsessed with food for my entire adult life. When I am going to eat, what I am going to eat, where I am going to eat, if there will be enough food left by the time I get to the front of the line... Not a very nice way to live. This book HAS CHANGED MY LIFE! So far, everything she has said has been true. Everything that she said would happen, has happened. And it's not hard to do at all! Sure, the initial adjustment to serving a meal with no potatoes or bread is a little odd, but you get over it pretty fast. Somehow, this diet just clicked with me. After reading her book, I have at least 6 more reasons to eat this way than just to lose weight. That's not even my focus any more! She explained all the different approaches of all these other authors and shows you how to pick and choose which aspects of which approaches will work best for you. It's remarkably easy to read, too!

I used this book along with Lauri's Lo-Carb Cookbook and the Greg Smithey "Easy Toning" tape, and I lost 10 pounds the first week and, I don't know if my initial measurement was wrong or what, but I lost and INCH off my waist! I have ordered the rest of Mr. Smithey's "Easy" videos now, and use Lauri's cookbook everyday. I have not yet found a recipe I or my husband didn't like.

I hope you find something that works for you. But for my money, this was the best that was out there for me.

Becoming a Personal Trainer For Dummies

Becoming a Personal Trainer For DummiesI have been a personal trainer for nearly two years and I thought I had a handle on everything. I was given this book as a gift and I was blown away with the comprehensive information that it provides. I learned the most from the True Stories sections as they provided extra tips and really expanded upon the knowledge contained in this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about becoming a personal trainer and encourage current personal trainers to read it as well. I only wish I would have read this book a lot sooner.

This is a very fun and informative book to read if you're considering a career as a personal trainer. I've been in the industry for quite a while and still found it a worthwhile read. The actual experiences of different personal trainers portrayed in this book was probably my favorite part, but there was really not one chapter in this book that I didn't feel I benefited from reading. If you are new to the personal training industry or are considering fitness as a career, this is a great book to start with.

One aspect of training this book does not cover, which is fine because that's not what this book is for; is the selling side of personal training. That's right, your new personal training position has very much to do with sales. I still remember having to sell my first client personal training sessions, I had no idea what I was doing nor that I was doing sales when I signed up to be a trainer. It's not that bad once you get the hang of it, just remember that helping people is the name of the game. I would suggest looking into some type of book that teaches you how to sell, makes things much less stressful. Here are two good books on the subject:

1) The Personal Training Sales Education Textbook: A simple and effective sales system designed specifically for the personal trainer in the health club.

2) Selling Personal Training : How To Make the Most of Your Personal Training Business

The title of this book is remarkably misleading. The vast majority of the content is about starting your own personal training *business* not becoming a personal trainer. The sections on certification are fine but skimpy. The section on exercise prescription is, well, comical stick figure diagrams? Really?

If you read the reviews, even the most positive ones say things like, "not what I thought it would be," or "geared toward people who are already certified." If you're already a trainer, the detailed instructions on how to write a business plan and market yourself could be quite useful. Otherwise, those wanting to break into the field can go online and find everything you need from this book in about fifteen minutes. Good luck!

Staying Power: Age-Proof Your Home for Comfort, Safety and Style

Staying Power: Age-Proof Your Home for Comfort, Safety and StyleThis is a very valuable book for people like me, in my 70's and planning to continue to live at home. It's also valuable for the grown children of older people. It alerts them to signs that parents need help and tactfully suggests how to do some needed interventions. I like that each chapter discusses the impairments people may become subject to and then goes on to recommend ways to avoid or ameliorate problems. Since there are so many ideas (22 pages on falls alone) I appreciated that at the end of each chapter there are lists of things to do and resources, so one does not have to go back and skim through the chapter to get the desired information. In addition, there's a very fine list of resources such as government agencies, specialized books, and places to buy equipment at the end of the book The book has some of the information we've read about, but much much more. Who knew that fires are the second leading cause of injuries to older people? I've started to implement some of the suggestions for keeping to my medicine schedule, and will certainly implement other things as I go along. Definitely a book to buy and keep handy!!!!

This book was in my handbag on a cross country flight from San Francisco to New York--where I headed to visit my Dad, being treated for cancer and my Mom, who is caring for him.

Both of my parents are in their eighties and live independently in a two story colonial home--I am 55.

This book is written in a friendly, common sense tone. I knew that I had come to the right place when I read in the introduction that the book would focus on "things you can do relatively quickly without superior strength or elaborate tools."

And so it does. Upon arrival at my parent's home, I immediately took stock of Rachel's Top Tips for A Stable Home (page 65), investigating tripping hazards, talking to my folks about safer footwear, (I ordered socks with traction features on the bottom, a.k.a. hospital socks) and making sure that furniture that my Dad might hold on to for support on his way to the bathroom in the middle of the night was "strong and stable."

Mind you, not every suggestion that I made was met with delight, but author Adelson offers a list of books that can help adult kids communicate with their older parents who may be resistant to change.

The list of resources and recommended reading at the back of the book also helped to get me in touch with the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers--private health and human service specialists who help families care for older relatives.

The section, Bits and Pieces--Working Out Wherever--offered helpful exercise tips for the entire family.

I especially liked the encouraging tip, "if it is not possible to do what was done before, celebrate and develop what can be done now." That is a lesson for all of us over fifty!

You can read this book all at one time, as I did on my five hour flight. Or you can dip into it as needed for advice from Adelson, a journalist with graduate certificates in aging and public health, who offers personal anecdotes, as well.

Highly recommended--in print and Kindle editions--where you can adjust the type size for easier reading!

This is a great book for anyone who is aging, has a loved one who is aging, or expects some day to be aging him/herself! It is full of practical tips to help people stay in their homes comfortably for as long as possible. While there are tips in areas you might expect, such as accessibility and safety, you will also find information on less expected topics, for example, how to promote good nutrition in spite of a declining sense of taste. Best of all, the book is readable and even amusing at times. It is an invaluable handbook in this era of aging boomers. Highly recommended.
