The author tells how she changed the game by taking personal responsibility for research, experimentation and continuous learning, using what she "knew" as a starting point, but then listening to her heart and her gut -rolling up her sleeves and improvising, and trying things when the situation didn't respond. She didn't turn away from medicine, but reached out to all kinds of medicine and its practitioners all the way through. And she learned something useful from everyone she met along the way. The approach described here is a model of learning, resilience, persistence and courage from which everyone can benefit.Want Curing Courtney: Doctors Couldn't Save Her...So Her Mom Did Discount?

It's unfortunate that the book's title doesn't make this clear.Look up dementia in the dictionary: from the Latin; out from the mind, severe mental deficiency or impairment. This can include anything from alzheimer patients to manic-depressives even obsessive-compulsion disorders. There is alot of that going around lately.
This activity book attempts to help those in need of finding positive outlets for frustrated energies. A place for a person to remember the good things, let the little things go and strive to move foreward.
Lacking was an effective way to work with these type of people. Just listing an activity, such as making a photo album, or writing a journal, still does not cover the enormous amount of patience one must have to direct one of dementia. Most of them are disabled and or retired and need therapy. This workbook alone could not do the trick. It might be of some help to people who must live around the demented. Thus 3 stars, thanks--CDS

I'm an occupational therapist looking for specific ideas for activities that will interest dementia patients who can't participate in bingo and the other activities offered by a poorly run activities program in a typical nursing home. The dementia unit described in this book sounds wonderful, but not easily found in a long term care setting. Once again, I've found a book with great ideas that are impossible to carry out in the real world of long term care.Read Best Reviews of Keeping Busy: A Handbook of Activities for Persons with Dementia Here
Because of the many phrases, songs, games that refer to things anyone born from 1910 to 1950 might remember, it was exceedingly fun and appropriate to go through things with my TBI husband. We laughed and said, Have to sing that for our grandchildren" and reminded each other of the answers. I could see the author's view of older people not wanting to do, say, art, then speaking of their brother who painted, and gradually having a wonderful time. I had occasion to refer this book to someone whose mother was just diagnosed, and I did so enthusiastically. Makes me wonder what the dementia patients who were born past the 70s will have that's as much fun as these old songs and cliches. The trick is to play WITH the patients and listen to their resulting stories--don't just throw the book their direction.Want Keeping Busy: A Handbook of Activities for Persons with Dementia Discount?
I work in an assisted living residence for people with dementia and our goal is to engage our residents all day in meaningful activities. It is very challenging and has great rewards. This book's title, Keeping Busy, almost made me pass it by because we are focused on more than just keeping our residents 'busy'...we want them to enjoy themselves, and in fact to 'flourish' in our environment. I am glad that I purchased it because it has many delightful activities that in fact do much more than just keep people 'busy'.Healing Remedies: More Than 1,000 Natural Ways to Relieve Common Ailments, from Arthritis and Allerg
Wilden Sisters deserve a Nobel Prize for Common Sense. Oh, that's right they would prefer people rely on patent medications rather than use their brain.I absolutely love this book, and I consult it for any concerns I have for my family and friends. Great lead time. Happy with my purchase. Thanks. My next door neighbor could have written this book. I thought there'd be documentation or statistics backing up the claims here. Not so. I love books and usually find something useful but this is one book I should have flipped through first. I would have placed it back immediately.Nice tips but a bit limited with some too well known facts.Nothing bad to say about this book, contains some very nice tips .
Too limited for many subjects for example hypertension: no other tips? Are these not well known already?
Don't loose anything by purchasing this book but their are many more books in this field with more information.
Maybe the price should be lower because of this.
Useful if this is not your only, main book for "healing remedies"I enjoyed all the tidbits and helpful advice in this handy book. There is a trend toward holistic medicine and this book fits the bill. Glad to have all this information in an easy to access reference book.
Father's Home Birth Handbook
Joanna Ptolomey (a Health Information Analyst and Consultant in the UK) wrote, on Amazon.co.uk, "What makes this book so exciting is that not only is it written in a very accessible format, but the content relies on well researched high-quality evidence. The evidence it presents is from "gold standard" and well documented sources that health-information specialists and clinical staff use to make decisions on a day-to-day basis. You can be sure that this book is not just a collection of 'Googled information sources,' but from authoritative sources and with that comes peace of mind for any user of this text."
The reviewer in "Midwifery Today" noted that "Leah Hazard's exploration of what it's like for a father at a home birth is well-referenced and provides answers to many of the questions a man might have about the home birth choice. I love that she brings together the voices of men from all walks of life, and reveals how life changing the birth of their baby was for them, in the sanctity of their own home. Although primarily written for men, it's invaluable as a resource for birth professionals."
"Mother" magazine called this book "essential reading."
Every father-to-be should read this wonderful book, no matter whether his partner is planning to give birth at home or in hospital. Nothing beats the words, in this book, of the many fathers who describe, with admiration and love, how their partners delivered their babies. It is rare that fathers speak so openly about the intimate details of birth and the ways in which watching and helping their loved ones has brought them closer together. Leah Hazard, an experienced doula, writes with charm and authority (and citations!) about the joys and, also, the occasional unexpected problems of home birth. If your partner is pregnant or if you know a man whose partner is pregnant, buy this book so that you or he can learn from other men what they experienced when their partners gave birth.
Healing Painful Sex: A Woman's Guide to Confronting, Diagnosing, and Treating Sexual Pain

This book is a must read for anyone suffering from sexual/pelvic pain. Dr. Coady does a wonderful job explaining the medical components of the many conditions that can cause pain. She also explains the treatments available, without overwhelming the reader. She is an expert in her field and the depth of her knowledge is immeasurable. Nancy Fish does a great job reassuring the reader they are not alone. Her advice on how to cope is brilliant. This book validates the suffering that many women have experienced and provides hope. I highly recommend this book...I started reading this book and I had no idea that this medical condition even existed. I hope it gets the right exposure that it so deserves so that help can get through where it's needed most. For someone who is removed (thankfully) from this condition, I still find the book very informative in regards to the biology of things. The chapter on "Helping Your Doctor Get it Right" is good advice all around on how to deal with one's health issues and make the most use of doctor's appointments. Though vaguely aware, I did not know the extent of how much the US healthcare system has commoditized patient care that it's been rationed to minutes, until this book. Thanks both to Dr. Deborah Coady and Nancy Fish for this very helpful, insightful book.Wow! I got more info in the first 60 pages of this book than I got from my primary care doc or my OB.
Information is power, when it comes to understanding what a person is dealing with, and how to move forward in your own situation.

Dunbar's book is one of the best when it comes to repairing just about any antique tool. He patiently and thoroughly describes how to repair most any hand tools you'll come across. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how to restore antique hand tools. It should be noted that Dunbar now uses a different method to sharpen plane and chisel irons, etc. However, this is widely available in magazines. Highly recommended.Read Best Reviews of Restoring, Tuning & Using Classic Woodworking Tools Here
The tools being old, not necessarily the collectors. The vast preponderance of space is taken up with hand planes. While some attention is paid to other tools, if you do not have a plane collection, this is a costly book for topics that are covered in tons of books. The general info on sharpening and cleaning is not unique to this book. But the coverage on hand planes may not be equaled elsewhere.Want Restoring, Tuning & Using Classic Woodworking Tools Discount?
good and detailed, the major part talk about planes of every kind and type with ideas to evaluate it. Nice book
