Fashion 2.0: Blogging Your Way to The Front Row- The Insider's Guide to Turning Your Fashion Blog in

Fashion 2.0: Blogging Your Way to The Front Row- The Insider's Guide to Turning Your Fashion Blog into a Profitable Business and Launching a New Career, Vol. 1I just finished reading this book, which only took me a few shorts hours and I loved it. As a fashion blogger myself, I found it so helpful.

Get your highlighters and pens ready! Yuli gives great tactical advice for bloggers. I found myself marking up the pages with lots of notes. She provides her insider knowledge that she has gain after years of experience. I especially found the Fashion Week section helpful because she explained how to approach them if your registration gets declined at first. It is possible to get in!

She interviews success stories such as Gala Darling and What I Wore. I love how she pointed out that we (bloggers) are all in this together. When you work with brands or go to Fashion Week, remember you are still representing all bloggers. So if they have a bad experience with you, they'll assume all bloggers are unprofessional. And yes most still think we work in our pajamas.

If you are serious about blogging then this book should be your bible. Are you going to pick up this book? You better!

After reading several books in the blogging space, it was refreshing to read a book angled towards the business end of this rapidly developing space. This book reads like a blueprint on how to successfully monetize your blog, increase the value of your brand, and how to become the next big "influencer". The author breaks it down in a pragmatic yet engaging way.

I also liked the guest pieces at the end of each chapter. A must read for any blogger looking to take it to the next level.

If you are serious about blogging as a long term hobby or career and you want to know all the in's and out's then this is the book for you! I've bought and read over a dozen blogging books before and nothing was as informative and well written as this one. It is concise and to the point. Really, I could have skipped all those other books and just read this one. It thoroughly explains topics like credibility, legal jargon, connecting with brands, creating readership, managing social networks, building buzz about your blog, advertising, creating a rate card, getting into fashion week, what topics to write about, etc.

I think this book is far better than the others I've read because;

1. It is short and to the point which keeps your interest

2. It is arranged very well with a lot of helpful category headings so you can quickly reference sections

3. She covers monetary topics that no other book I have seen covers AND she covers them very well

4. She writes under the assumption that you already know how to use the internet and have some understanding of blogging and social networks, which if you are interested in blogging you probably do. So many other books are glorified tutorials on how to use the internet. It is as if they are written for people who have never even turned on a computer before. I don't need to read 100+ pages walking me through in painful detail how to create a blog on BlogSpot, it is self explanatory. Yuli knows her audience, accurately assumes most of their backgrounds with tech and the internet, and does not speak down to them.

5. It helps you create a blogging plan you can feel confident about and stick to it.

In short, if you are getting a book on blogging, want to spruce up your current blog, or make blogging a profitable use of your time get this book! You can skip the rest.

I purchased Yuli's Fashion 2.0 for research and ideas on how to support my creative coaching clients who use blogging and social media to promote their business. Her book is now my favorite blogging book of the year! Why? She provides a clear and concise blueprint for finding and following your passion as a blogger, entrepreneur, speaker, and writer; building relationships and communities of support; developing revenue streams; and pursuing business opportunities. When I started reading the book, I did not consider myself a fashion or lifestyle blogger. Midway through the book, I realized that I do have a passion for fashion, style, and lifestyle. I used Yuli's wisdom and written exercises to develop an outline of a lifestyle blog I plan to launch in 2013 (will do a soft launch in 2012). I highly recommend Fashion 2.0 for fashion and lifestyle bloggers, all bloggers, and entrepreneurs who want to use their blog to promote their business and build relationships. Fashion 2.0 is FABULOUS! Thanks Yuli for creating such an amazing book!

This book contains useful information for any blogger who wants to earn a living with a for-profit blog or website.

The most valuable information is about how to select and work with clients for your target niche. This includes definitions; for example, sponsored content versus paid ads. You will get good ideas about how to set prices and when your readership is large enough to seek out retailers with which you'd like to work.

There also is specific information about navigating the world of New York City fashion insiders.

There are some spelling and grammar errors, but not too many to be a problem.

The reason I have rated this four stars is the price. I suspect I could have ferreted out a good deal of this information for free, but I chose to get it in the effectively organized format of this book. You will have to judge for yourself whether my cavil over price is warranted.

Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills

Excitotoxins: The Taste That KillsIt's weird how fate sometimes thrusts a book into your hands at just the right moment.

I was in New York and visited a bookstore, and was almost about to walk out when the title Excitotoxins caught my eye. I actually picked the book up thinking it would be about mycotoxins, which are found in mushrooms, and which some WHO scientists have identified as potential carcinogens.

However, upon opening Russell Blaybock's excellent book, I was surprised to find that it was in fact a mystery book a book written by a neurosurgeon for the purpose of understanding how Parkinson's had struck down one of his parents.

As the son of two parents with Parkinson's, I was entralled by the book's premise that common food additives could cause demonstrable health problems in sensitive individuals and shocked that because these effects did not involve the whole population, such additives were deemed to be safe by the FDA. I was also shocked that manufacturers were given the right to add them to food under the guise of "spices", "natural flavoring" and other non de plumes.

When my parents first became ill, I did a large amount of research into Parkinson's and related illnesses. One of the more interesting aspects I came across was the discovery by some researchers that sebhoric dermatitis and Parkinson's may have a link. Being a recent sufferer of this annoying skin condition, my heart sunk on hearing this news.

However, since reading Excitotoxins I have made an effort to rid myself of any intake of the toxic additives mentioned in the book. It should come as no surprise that my skin problem has gone. My energy level has doubled.

I recently visited my parents and gave them a copy of this book. My parents, who put their trust in general practitioners early in their diagnosis and saw themselves travel quickly down hill, have long since learned to look after themselves through greater knowledge, and careful use of supplements and alternative medicines. You should know that my parents are now far better than they were some years ago, and are on the slow road to stabilisation and recovery. Such things are possible if you dig deep enough and believe that things like Parkinson's do have a cause, and then work to get back your health.

I believe this is an exceptionally important book, but only for sensitive individuals. Most people will remain unaffected by neurological disorders for them, this is not an important book at all. For the rest of us, especially those of us with a genetic possibility of such sensitivity to additives, this book could well put years on our lives. I feel it has already done so for me.

Thank you, Dr. Blaylock.

It is almost a cliche in this day and age for someone to ask the waiter at a Chinese restaurant 'no MSG, please,' as is the waiter's knowing smirk in response. MonoSodium Glutamate (MSG), or 'The essence of taste' (as coined by the Japanese), is used as a 'taste-enhancer' in nearly every form of processed food on the market today, though 'taste addiction' may be a more correct term. But what exactly does it do? And how is it harmful?

Dr. Russell L. Blaylock answers these questions and poses some startling evidence as to the eventual consequences of a heavy MSG-diet in his book _Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills_. In basic terms, MSG (and other, similar agents) pierces the blood-brain barrier and over-stimulates the neurons of a brain to a deadly degree. Habitual intake among animal experiments has shown the development of tumors, memory loss, and a whole host of neurodegenerative diseases as the end result of excess excitotoxin intake, including Alzhiemer's, Parkenson's, Lou Gerhig's etc.

Walk into any gas station in the United States (or grocery store, for that matter) and, upon close investigation, you will find that 75%-90% of the available food has been 'enhanced' to some degree by excitotoxins. The chemical agents are often disguised by such ambiguous terms as 'spice' and 'natural flavors' or, my personal favorite, 'hydrolyzed vegetable protein.' A consumer society must have consumer slaves to keep it functioning; MSG is the crack cocaine of the food industry...and it is legally perpetuated by slush-fund advocates and a pork-glutted FDA. As proven again and again, money talks, ... [you can finish the maxim for me].

Blaylock's thesis is written in a technical style, but the use of repetition throughout each chapter hammer in his myriad points into the reader with precision and power. An important book for anyone concerned with the health of self and family. You are what you eat---but do you know _what_ it is you are eating, below the surface of taste/fulfillment?

Do you know what those words "NATURAL FLAVORS", or "CITRIC ACID" really mean on that item you keep serving your family.??? Of course not. And if you are like most they sound like pleasant, even healthy, items on the ingredient list. Great. That was the plan of Monsanto (msg) industry giant. If you knew, they'd be out of business, doctors would have free time, pharmaceutical companies would have surpluses of unused medications, and the government would be short some big money buddies.

I read this book, used the advice, and no longer need treatment for hives, migraines, sinusitis, chronic fatigue, anxiety attacks, chronic cough, acid stomach!! I am a nurse who works in the psychiatric field, I have used this to help myself, my family, friends, and numerous patients get off their medications and live a normal life!! I kept giving everyone vitamins and protein shakes hoping to straighten out our ailments only to find that the neurotoxins alarming Dr. Blaylock were in these supplements, and in large doses.. Stearic acid, magnesium stearate, chelated minerals with aspartate, asporotate, whey protein, yeast selenium, yeast B vitamins!!. No wonder I kept feeling worse the more money I spent. My poor son kept coming home sick from school (headache, stomach ache). Doctors advisedit is just emotions and "be firm". But once I read the book, eliminated the neurotoxins and took him off the liquid vitamins with "natural flavors" and benzoate he was fine... an honor roll student, playing basketball and happy. My son loves Dr. Blaylock for this. It is a big job but becomes easy to eliminate these when you use support from websites like nomsg.com and battlingthemsgmyth.com all of these people read Blaylock's book and expand on recipes and foods to make the change he recommends. Read the book. You owe it to your self and your family.

"Excitotoxins" should be mandatory reading for all medical students, allopathic and naturopathic alike. Disturbing in its implications, this book is an unbiased overview of data ignored by the FDA and the health consequences the American public faces. The book explains in easy to understand detail what happens to our brains when we consume foods laced with MSG or Aspartame. Fortunately, several possible remedies under research are also identified.

The undeniable connection between chronic excitotoxin ingestion and neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, ALS, and Alzheimer's disease is backed by years of scientific documentation. The author shows how the FDA relies heavily on flawed, biased studies, purchased by powerful corporations, to justify poisoning the American public. These industries, slowly disabling and dementing us and our children, pocket billions of dollars at our expense easily buying them scientists and scientific data to "prove" their safety. They even lobbied, and won, the ability to utilize these poisons hidden in foods under disguised names (truth in labeling?). Our best interest is not at the FDA.

Protect yourself! Consume processed (boxed, frozen, canned) foods, spices and drinks at your own risk. Read this book!

They hide it in the foods you eat. It is now in over 50,000 products. They used to be required to put 'Diet' or 'Sugar-Free' on the label; but now if it is used in conjunction with another sweetener, that is no longer the case. You know the product of which I speak it is aspartame, NutraSweet, Equal, or whatever it is called this week. Aspartame breaks down in beverages in temperatures over 86 degrees Fahrenheit, into aspartic acid, an excitotoxin and formaldehyde, a deadly neurotoxin. This in fact occurred in the Gulf War, as pallets of Diet Coke were left sitting for days in the hot desert sun, and the temperatures reached 125 degrees Fahrenheit. I know, I was there. And when you are thirsty, you drink whatever is handy. Now I am a 100% disabled Gulf War Veteran. Do I blame aspartame? Partly but not all. But I'll tell you what it does now if I happen it grab one of those 50,000 products and don't read the label (or perhaps they've slipped it into something new)....It triggers Migraine attacks that last as long as 4 days and causes the rhuematoid arthritis that it gave me in the first place to act up. This is a very informative book. If you care at ALL about your health and what you might be eating, this is a MUST READ!!!

I think this is also a great book for women wanting to get back into makeup trends after a hiatus. I won't feel like such a moron now when I go to the makeup counter of a department store and investigate a clear mascara as if it were some futuristic robot or something. I also like how the author suggests using one's own natural beauty and enhancing it with minimal makeup.

The After-Death Room: Journey Into Spiritual Activism

The After-Death Room: Journey Into Spiritual ActivismHIV-positive journalist Michael McColly travels through South Africa, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Chicago, and Senegal to document the lives of activists, sex workers, and people living with the AIDS. He also tells his own story, humanizing the disease and making it accessible in an intimate and compassionate way.

McColly's careful crafting blends scene and internal observations in a way that moves the vantage point from a feeling in the body to the exterior world, then out to a global perspective, taking the reader with him. Imagery and perception combine to make this not only an important sociological study of multiple struggles (sexuality, AIDS, poverty, healing), but also a literary work. He incorporates facts so that they become a part of the story without losing momentum, allowing the reader to step away from this book with a greater understanding of the scope of the AIDS pandemic.

Posing poignant and at times painful questions throughout his memoir, McColly challenges the reader to confront complex issues.

The book is both disheartening and inspiring as McColly's journey deepens. In Chennai, India, he interviews a man heading AIDS education for sex workers who says, "We are trying to make the young men ... into a cohesive, self-sustaining community. It's the only way they are going to survive not only this disease but this life." This becomes a subtle theme through the book: those who become active in helping others find that reaching out gives them a way to cope with the disease. At times, the story is devastating. Multiple viewpoints and approaches toward the treatment of AIDS help to put the struggles of various countries into a very real perspective.

The After-Death Room is a modern portrait of the diverse spectrum of the AIDS landscape. But the ultimate message does not just apply to AIDS. It is universal: the importance of connecting, understanding, loving, and helping others--which, in this world, is harder than ever to realize, is certainly a thing worth living for.

McColly's writing is elegant and urgent. I rarely find books that combine political relevance and artistry as deeply as this book does. I couldn't put it down.

McColly's 2006 memoir of his personal fact-finding mission about the worldwide AIDS epidemic remains inspiring, enlightening, and eminently readable. It's a book about the practice of journalism--a lesson in how to tell the truth.

We are privileged to be working on publicity on this amazing book. Michael doesn't hold back and is brutally honest in his latest book. We highly recommend it.

Michael is also creating a Prostrations for Peace on July l5th that is spreading throughout the country. It's a demonstration against the continued war in Iraq and the continued suffering and killing of our own and Iraqi people.
