I have a few fashion books but lingerie usually is not covered or just barely mentioned even though it's just as important as the clothes we are wearing on the outside.
A well chosen bra, panty makes garments fit better, look nicer on us. Now, this book covers how to choose the right fitting undergarments, what you have to watch out for when buying, mentiones the many kinds of lingerie you can ever come accross and how to use it.
For instance, there are full slips and half slips which I've heard of and remember my grandma' used to use but it has never occured that I could use it. I just thought it's for old ladies. Well, it isn't. As it turnes out, full slips are for under see-through or/and clinging, static dresses.
The book is written in a funny, engaging, understanding way. The author understands what it's like to go underwear/swimsuit shopping (you know when you standing infront of the mirror and the terrible shop-lighting shows every bump on your body. Even the ones which are not there.. ;)
Otherwise, you'll find lots of nice photos and all the topics covered with all the right information.
I paid the full price+tax for this book at my local bookstore but no regrets (even though Amazon is cheaper, no tax and free shipping) because this book is worth buying!I stumbled upon this book while looking for something else, and couldn't help but pick it up. This book covers everything, including bras (how a good-fitting one can make you look so much better), panties, slips, hose, teddies, camisoles, you name it. The author explains what to get, how many, how to care for it, and what to wear it with. She covers the practical everyday needs as well as "special" lingerie. The book is beautifully photographed and is a pleasure to look at.
And most importantly, the author, a lingerie shop owner, provides a lot of insight into why women shop for lingerie (and why many do not). She makes a strong case for how what we wear under our clothes is just as important as our clothing, and that it's important for women to treat themselves well. This book totally changed my view on lingerie and gave me permission to buy those nice things I've always wanted!I was impressed by The Lingerie Handbook because of practicality. The information in this book assisted me in selecting bras that do their job. Finally I have guidance for selecting the right style and size for fit and lift because Apsan reveals the mysteries of selecting style, and cup size selection relative to the band size. I am pleased with the greater comfort and improved appearance of garments purchased following the book's tips. The book pays for itself with information that if followed will eliminate the future purchase of poor fitting bra. The information was a great time saver as I was able to pick out bras to try on that were more likely to fit so I didn't have to try on so many.

I saw a review of the book on the Internet and added it onto my wish list on Amazon.com. I put it there kind as a joke. Leave it to my mother in law to purchase the book that was added on to my wish list as a joke.I didn't really mind because I was interested in the book so I read it. The author of the book is the owner of the store La Petite Croquette a lingerie store in New York City.
Although the book is really meant for women it was interesting for me as a guy to read. Most of the book is put together in a no nonsense "This is what you need to know when it comes to lingerie"
The first two chapters of the book talk about why owning high quality lingerie is important. It focuses on how lingerie makes a woman feel sexy and attractive.
The nitty gritty portion of the book really starts out with chapter 3 when it starts talking about bras. This is easily the largest single chapter in the book and it simply states what most women should really know. There is a lot of information about finding the right cup size and band size. It also has a short section on important dates in bra history. It includes a little bit about different styles of bras and what different bra types are good for.
The next section is on panties. It talks about VPL visible panty lines. Different styles of panties are listed and once again a list of what type of outfits each is good for.
The next few sections talk about sleep ware, shape ware, stockings and pantyhose and tights. Each section is organized like the section on bras.
The next section is one of the best section its called tips for women. It basically covers the same topics as the first two chapters but organized in a different way. It even talks about the very racy Perl Thong which sounds like a very interesting outfit to me.
There is also a nicely written section just for men. I think the major two point listed for men was be prepared for sticker shock. (lingerie is expensive) The other hint know the size of the woman that you are trying to buy for.
There are two other section one on caring for lingerie. The author advises washing all lingerie by hand. If you don't have time to wash by had use the gentle cycle. However she advises never drying you lingerie in the dryer always air dry. The heat of the dryer will destroy the elasticity of any lingerie.
The last section talks about the different types of fabric and how a person can build up there own lingerie collection.
This is a really good no nonsense book about what a woman should know about lingerie. I wish that my wife would sit down and read it. I think that women often forget how much simple lingerie can do to flame up passion in a man.
I would advise this book to any woman. I think this book has something most women have not thought of. The section on bras would make this book good for almost any woman. I think the simple fact that 9 out of 10 women are using a bra that does not fit proper is shocking. As a nutritionist specializing in eating disorders, I found this book to be a wonderful body image booster. The author re-affirms throughout this beautiful sensual book, it's what's inside that counts, everyone has something special about themselves. The positive energy, the beautiful modelsof all sizesecho love yourself and treat yourself well from the inside out! I loved this book and will enjoy recommending it to others.
