Striped Shirts and Flowered Pants: A Story about Alzheimer's Disease for Young Children

Striped Shirts and Flowered Pants: A Story about Alzheimer's Disease for Young ChildrenThis was a very well done book, a must for anyone with a child that needs help explaining what is happening with grandma/grandpa and Alzheimer's. Well presented and beautifully illustrated. Well done, Ms. Schnurbush.

This little book showed that being different is okay. The acceptance by the granddaughter was so touching. The book was well written and illustrated.

Natural Beauty at Home: More Than 250 Easy-to-Use Recipes for Body, Bath, and Hair

Natural Beauty at Home: More Than 250 Easy-to-Use Recipes for Body, Bath, and HairI bought this book because of a friend who developed an allergy to the aluminum used in anti-perspirants/deodorants and wanted to know if I could come up with some hand made creation to help her out. I have my own soap and toiletries business so I am constantly playing around with recipes for soaps and beauty treatments and this book sounded very interesting.

And it is. Janice Cox is an amazingly clever and inventive person whose pleasant personality comes through in the pages of this book. I was happy to find four different recipes for deodorants, but there was SO much more.

I have stopped spending major dollars for a small tube of a certain famous brand's hair dressing creme -I now just make my own, slathering mayonnaise and honey and mashed avocado and egg yolk on my hair, which has never looked better. The recipes for facial creams and masques and potions and powders are endlessly fascinating, if you like this sort of thing.

If you are weary of paying top dollar for boutique or spa beauty treatments that you have already halfway suspected could be made at home (better and more cheaply), then this is definitely the book for you. Have fun with it and take note of how these simple, down-home beauty recipes actually WORK.

I was VERY disappointed in this book for several reasons:

1). The author mentions the use of mineral oil and petrolatum as a moisturizer (for those of you that don't know these are byproducts of gasoline and are AWFUL for your skin, the cosmetic/beauty industry only use it because it is dirt cheap and never goes bad).

2). It is not practical to put your time and effort into making something for one application (will we really see results after just one use?). I suppose you can multiply the recipes but most of the recipes need to be used ASAP or they spoil. Needless to say I have not found a happy medium!

3). I have coarse curly hairI tried one of the "hair packs" and needless to say it was a MESS! It took several shampoos to get all of the stuff out of my hair.

In conclusion, I would reccommend you research what products are actually good for you and not just convienient for the makers!

I was looking for a book that had items I already have in my kitchen and that is what I found. The recipes are easy. This is an excellent book if you are interested in making your own beauty products for yourself or as gifts. I love it!

I love this book. I always have a few extra strawberries or some yogurt or mayonnaise in my fridge. Simple, nontoxic, often edible ingredients that make great beauty recipes. I have tried quite a few selections from the book thus far and have been very pleased with the way my hair and face feel after using these simple beauty recipes. A far better buy than running to the department store and paying extortionary prices for products that don't work any better. P.S. I worked for Lancome for 7 yrs., so I feel confident making that claim!

This book is great for a beginner like me. The ingredients that are required are either already in the home or easy to find. It asks for things like olive oil, baking soda, liquid soap, rose water, glycerine, pine needles, lavendar flowers, etc. The recipes for beauty treatments are usually small in quantity. You can learn to make cold creams, night creams, facial masks, bath salts, lip balms, massage oils, plus other things. You can add essential oils or fragrances or make frangrance-free potions for sensitive skins. Some of the recipes are said to be very old. Lye soap recipes are included, if you want to go that route. I am anxious to make gift baskets of personalized beauty and bath potions for my friends and family. It is so simple.

Buff Moms: The Complete Guide to Fitness for All Mothers

Buff Moms: The Complete Guide to Fitness for All MothersA friend of mine recommended this book, Buff Moms, because she has the Buff Brides book and LOVES it! This is a great book if you are wanting to get your body back into pre-baby shape. It has numerous exercises, some using weights or an exercise ball, as well as stretches. The book is broken down into weeks postpartum with appropriate exercises for each week. Get this book before you deliver so you can use it right away! (My little one is 13 months and I am currently using all the exercises and stretches in the book from weeks 3-6 postpartum in addition to my daily cardio) She also has a section on c-section deliveries and what exercises you can and can't do. She also covers nutrition as well as FAQs on postpartum physical changes and definitons. Great book, I highly recommend it!

I only wish I would have started this program right after my daughter was borninstead of 7 months later!

This had some good information and the toning exercises were pretty easy to follow but I can't say that it helped me get back into shape. I wish I would have checked it out from the library first. I probably wouldn't have purchased then.

The Power of Breath: The Art of Breathing Well for Harmony, Happiness, and Health

The Power of Breath: The Art of Breathing Well for Harmony, Happiness, and HealthI am a yoga teacher myself, have taught yoga worldwide in English, Spanish and German. I am based in New York City where I reside. Swami Saradananda's book is so beautifully written that I keep recommending it in my yoga classes. The students who buy it just love this book. I can recommend it to yoga students and yoga teachers alike. Swami Saradananda gives the most inspiring seminars and yoga courses all over the world. The first time I took her inspirational classes is about 20 years ago and was in London. Then I took one of her classes in New York a few years ago. I suggest you get a group together and have her teach one of her most amazing seminars or listen to her speak but if you can't do that right now get at least get her amazing book 'The Power of Breath'. It is for beginners, intermediate and advance levels alike.

I have read many books on prana and studied with many different teachers and this book reads very easily and I have been able to use the parables in the classes that I lead as well as many of the visual tecniques. I love this book

As a Yoga Teacher this book was very inspiring! and really helpful for me and greatly improved my teaching of Pranayama yogic breathing exercises.Even though I had been practising yoga for quite a while I still had got into bad breathing habits myself and of course being a yoga teacher also noticed quite a few people were the same. I started to work on my swimming technique too on changing from breast stroke to the crawl style .. which Ive always found extremely difficult and so gave up but now enjoy swimming a whole lot more!
