Toward Daylight: Becoming a writer, despite everything

Toward Daylight: Becoming a writer, despite everythingKarner's quiet wit and delicious writing style draw you into the story of her struggle with overcoming physical and emotional turmoil. The reader is thrown headfirst into the simple lifestyle chosen by the author and her husband, which causes you to take inventory of your own hectic life.

I was sad to reach the end of the story part of your well-written book and wanted to continue reading. Hurry, hurry, hurry with your next book! The travelogue section makes me feel like I am actually experiencing a place I will probably never have an opportunity to visit! It has inspired me to look for attractions right in my own area that I've never been to before!

Reading Toward Daylight by Tracy Karner was like entering into her world as she struggled and celebrated her journey through life.

It caused me to reflect on the people in my life and the journey we are on. I plan to visit many of the restaurants and inn's that she

refers to in her book. I highly recommend this book.

The Mold Survival Guide: For Your Home and for Your Health

The Mold Survival Guide: For Your Home and for Your HealthThis book written by long time professional home inspector Jeff May and his writer spouse Connie is a good introduction to mold problems in buildings, particularly homes. It combines an excellent narrative writing style, and unusual for a book that should appeal to many lay readers, a strong scientific understanding of mold, its growth requirements, its effects on human health, its detection in indoor spaces and ultimately its control. Jeff who I have known for over 20 years brings to this book many years (and of course many investigated buildings) of real-world experience with the scientific understanding to match. That is a rare combination. The book is a good read for the lay individual concerned about mold, the parent with a child with asthma, chronic sinusitis, or chronic non-seasonal allergy. It is also a good read for mold professionals of limited experience and those planning to enter the profession.

Thad Godish, Ph.D., C.I.H., Professor of Natural Resources/Environmental Management, Ball State University, Muncie, In. 47304 http://www.bsu.edu/IEN

Despite the name "survival guide" I found this a calm and informative guide to environmental mold issues. It explained in an understandable way the scientific issues around mold such as what mold is, how it can be a health hazard, and more importantly how mold is not some sort of invisible killer, but something that requires certain conditions to become a problem.

Mold growth is a wide-ranging problem only recently receiving recognition in the process: turn to the The Mold Survival Guide For Your Home And For Your Health for significantly more depth and advice than any ordinary newspaper article could offer. Indoor air quality professional teams join a writing specialist to describe different types of molds and how to eradicate them while maintaining health. Tips on prevention are particularly well done.

I am a Certified Microbial Consultant (mold inspector) and a board member of the American Indoor Air Quality Council. I have this book in my library as a reference. It's quite comprehensive.

Jeffrey has done a god job. It's written for the lay person but also contains a lot of technical information (and technically correct information). The publisher is John Hopkins University. So it's a good read for the academics.

A good, comprehensive book for those who need to know about mold.

This book provides clear and practical information to help you protect your health and your property from being damaged or destroyed by mold.

Mold is not just stinky and ugly. It has adversely affected the health of many people, especially those who are allergic to mold. Mold spores irritate the respiratory system and weaken the immune system's ability to remove particles from the lungs and to kill cancer cells.

Mold has made some buildings uninhabitable and uninsurable. Mortgage lenders avoid loaning money for the purchase of any building with significant mold infestations. Some families have already lost their home, including all of their equity, due to mold.

Jeffrey and Connie May have succeeded in providing practical wisdom gained from actually solving serious problems in homes and other buildings. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to solve and/or avoid mold problems.

The Spirited Walker: Fitness Walking For Clarity, Balance, and Spiritual Connection

The Spirited Walker: Fitness Walking For Clarity, Balance, and Spiritual ConnectionI enjoyed this books suggestions on using mantras to encourage yourself to go that extra distance. It is written with the beginner and beyond in mind to motivate you to bring more "sacredness" in to a simple act that we often take for granted. It isn't packed with alot of technical information about aerobic walking but does suggest reliable resources for the absolute beginner. It also includes the author and other's stories of "flagging motivation" and how they were able to overcome it by bringing more mindfulness to the situation. This is key not only in walking but in life in general (try the mantra exercise the next time you need motivation to get that laundry folded or wash those dishes!) If you're looking for something to motivate you to put more "pep in your step" this is one great book to do it.

Though not a race walker, I'm well beyond fittness walking, walking faster than many others run. It's hard to find a book that takes you beyond fittness walking, but this one does. It has plenty of material for the beginning or average fittness walker, but also has lots of exercises for those who are ready to take thier practice to the upper levels.

I also love the fact that there are also plenty of exercises for those who would like to combine thier spiritual practices with thier fittness routine. This is very practical those of us who have many demands on our lives & little time to go around.

I love this book. It has helped me a lot not only with my walking but with jogging, hiking and biking. I was a shallow breather with a lot of stress. This book helped me to relax which in turn helped me to go faster and farther. I use the imagery and positive self talk all the time when I am trying to overcome all the complaints in my head about exercising. This book makes a great gift for all the stressed out people in your life.

This is a great book for anyone who would like to start meditating, but has trouble sitting still. I use the simple techniques when I'm hiking, and even biking. It gives my mind a break from all the unnecessary rehashing of problems or life stress. Now, after a workout, I feel much more refreshed from being in the moment and focusing on my breath and positive affirmations. I would recommend it to all levels of walkers and meditators.

The Best of Bill Wallace

The Best of Bill WallaceThis book contains 150 essays written over a 15 year period. It includes everything from training tips to his opinion of modern kickboxing. I recently had my copy signed by Bill Wallace at a seminar in Reidsville NC.He is a super nice guy!

What can I say that hasn't been said many times? Bill Wallace is a legend

in American Martial Arts...and a nice guy to boot. I have seen him fight

several times, trained at one of his all day seminars and got to hang with him for a few minutes that afternoon. He has been around almost from the beginning of the Martial Arts scene in this country and has many interesting opinions and insights as well as some cool personal stories to tell. I thorougly enjoyed this book and recommend it highly. If you have enjoyed any of his columns in Black Belt Magazine you will enjoy this book.

Bill "Superfoot" Wallace

is one of the all-time greats of American Karate. After damaging his right knee the former wrestler and Judo player decided to pick up the then almost unheard of art of Karate. Bill could only kick with his left leg, but kick he did! After earning his black belt after a mere nine months of training Superfoot (the nickname he had earned by that time) won just about every major Karate Championship in the US. Later Bill switched to the newly developing sport of full-contact Karate (a form of kickboxing in which all kicks must be placed above the belt) and became its first middleweight champion. He retired undefeated after 23 fights. Besides having acted in several movies, Bill is nowadays one of the most sought after Martial Arts teachers on the seminar circuit when he's not providing commentary at the UFC championships or playing golf.

The Best of Bill Wallace

consists of more than 150 short essays that he wrote over a period of 15 years for Black Belt Magazine, the first real Martial Arts Magazine in North America. Bill Wallace is a college graduate and writes like one. The book is well written with no typo's or grammar mistakes. Bill always manages to get his point across, either in competition or in writing. Moreover, his "happy go lucky" personality and typical brand of humour shine through on the 156 pages of this book. Bill provides information about switching from semi-contact to full-contact, the early days of American sports Karate, his youth, he debunks several Martial Arts myths along the way and, surprisingly for a noted competitor, provides a lot of information about avoiding street fights and how to do well in them if you can't avoid them. Bill's claim that a junk food diet lubricates your joints is good for a laugh and not much else, not all weight training coaches would agree with his advice depending on the goals of the student and his argument for allowing groin shots in UFC competitions doesn't sound very good to me for obvious reasons.

Conclusion

Any fan of Bill Wallace or Martial Arts enthusiast will enjoy this informative book. This is no "Authorized Biography" and I, personally, would have liked to read more about Bill's relationship with Elvis Presley (whom he worked out with). Despite this minor criticism I would like to thank Superfoot for writing (another) super book.

Getting To The Core Of Apple Cider Vinegar:The Ultimate Guide Book To Apple Cider Vinegar Health Ben

Getting To The Core Of Apple Cider Vinegar:The Ultimate Guide Book To Apple Cider Vinegar Health Benefits, Home Remedies & MoreMy wife suffers from acid reflux and I had read where red apples can help cure or at least stop the misery. When she eats the apple she does not suffer and now I have read where apple cider vinegar can do the same. We will surely give it a try and maybe it will lower my cholesterol as well. This a good read, easy to understand, well organized in the content. One thing for sure I don't think any harm can come by trying vinegar, like anything use common sense and use this book for a great reference.

Ok, so it seems that I may have been living under a rock! I was not aware of this liquid and its health benefits! As I am right 'into' cleaning up my act and improving my health at the moment, I decided to check this book out and I am glad that I did! The reason I am seeking health information is that I need to get my diabetes under control, and other things that have been impacted by, and are impacting this disease, are high cholestrol and being overweight.

Imagine my delight when I read that these are some of the health issues that using Apple Cider Vinegar can address, among others that I suffer with! What I found particularly useful was that the author didn't just say 'oh it's good for this', he gave guidance on specific amounts to be used and pointed out what to look for in a good vinegar so that you get a mix that is beneficial.

The author is also responsible in his delivery of the information, any scientific evidence that exists, when there is only anecdotal evidence, and any caution that should be taken in relation to medication etc. A well researched and written book with a balanced approach. Thankyou for this information Mr Stiles.

Whilst there are few proven scientific facts, this book certainly helps to distinguish between myth and truth. A very interesting read.

Kitchen Cures: Homemade Remedies for Your Health

Kitchen Cures: Homemade Remedies for Your HealthIf your grandmother or some other all-knowing friend or relative has ever advised you on how to heal some malady you will probably find it in here; although one of our family remedies, using loose tobacco for bee stings (which really works) is missing but maybe tobacco isn't supposed to be in the kitchen. Otherwise there are over a thousand remedies that Reader's Digest says they have found that have passed the test of time and have ingredients commonly found in the kitchen pantry. These also had to be simple, not complicated or risky. There are cautions in the beginning that really should be emphasized more often throughout the book on; if you are pregnant, taking prescription medicine, have a serious heath condition, etc.

There are frequent warnings about when to call a doctor, which is good, since these are not substitutes for seeking medical help for malingering problems...but many certainly help in the short run.

The book contains four sections; onegiving an A-Z guide on natural medicines on your kitchen shelves, twousing your kitchen pantry to help your health and appearance, part three lists ailments in alphabetical order from acne to yeast infections and various ways to cure the problem, part four gives tips on practical home healing. There is an excellent index which gives ingredients and health problems.

I have used some that have worked and some that haven't, but yet have had others swear by them. Using dried cherries for gout has been successful for several members of my family, honey for hiccups, tonic water with quinine for leg cramps; apples for nausea are some of the time proven ones that have worked for us. Others like vinegar for a sore throat have been less successful, but each malady has several "cures" and the salt water gargle is a success.

This is a good book, especially for those who like to use natural remedies rather than reaching for chemicals which aren't as good for you and are more expensive. It's not an excuse to not go to doctors, but it can be a first step to use and much of a preventive guide too.

I was at a bookstore looking for an aromatherapy guide when I found this book. On a much broader level, it takes your basic spices/herbs that you have at home, plus some added recipes using essential oils, and you have a guide to help you through life's little sicknesses (and possibly prevent them from becoming serious illnesses).

Beautifully laid out, attractive photos, with easy to follow sections, it gives documented facts from studies at universities and hospitals on why a treatment helps. Another section talks about specific illnesses (arthritis, back pain allergies, blisters etc) with more than one treatment to try. Little asides, such as "good to know" tips on how to maximize results, minimize overdoing it, plus "when to call the doctor" suggestions make it seem like a seasoned health care professional is always at your side.

Bought this book at the bookstore, and now am ordering 2 copies on Amazon for friends. Confused by complicated aromatherapy; this book is much more practical.
