Caring for the Diabetic Soul

Caring for the Diabetic SoulPeople with diabetes so often have to read and absorb dense information about their condition. This book, though, does not make those kinds of intense demands on the reader. It consists of a series of brief articles dealing with ways to support yourself or your child through stresses associated with diabetes.

Chapters include topics such as surviving the preteens, beating stress and dealing with negative thoughts. Each chapter is written by a different author.

I see this as a book you can keep in the bathroom, by the bed or in the car. One day you might want to spend five minutes reading about how to develop an exercise program. Another time, you might read about dealing with perfectionistic tendencies. Read the chapters in any order as you need them.

I must say I had higher expectations with this book. When I bought it I was -so to speakgoing under the ups and downs of the first few weeks after being diagnosed with Type 2, and upon reading comments and reviews I decided this book could help me through some of it.Well, it did in a sense, but after the first few chapters, it becomes incredibly repetitive and, at times, even contradictory. The problem is that it's all made of essays, all of which are written by different people. This results in a true mix that more than once brings back concepts that already have been discussed, more precisely perhaps, the anger that a diabetic experiences and how to deal with it. By the fourth time I read about this, I was almost angry to find the topic discussed again! :) (not so much, but you get the point). Otherwise, it has some great advice. I would say it's best for someone who's on his or her first few days after diagnosis or someone who -regardlesscontinues to be on an emotional rollercoaster due to diabetes, or for parents of diabetic children. Not really the best resource for spouses of diabetics.

The Principles of Unarmed Combat

The Principles of Unarmed CombatFirst off, I want to emphasize that this is the most detailed book I have ever read on the specific principles and factors which make up unarmed combat. It is also not a book you would want to read for recreation and pleasure. This is not a criticism of the book. This text was written like a college level text book. It has ten sections and over 50 chapters, as well as 351 pages in its 11 by 81/2 size format. In fact, it is impossible to intellectually absorb the amount of detail given in each section without studying this book with the same intensity you would give in a college physiology and kinesiology course. Though many life time students of the martial arts may be familiar with many of the concepts and principles, this book makes you think even more deeply on any preconceived ideas you may have on physical combat. This book also explodes some of the many myths concerning the value of certain martial art practices. In this respect, it deals with the reality of combat.

The ten sections in this tome include: The basic principles, body posture, movement and footwork, striking, defending against strikes, transitions, takedowns, ground fighting, miscellaneous topics and the psychology of combat. The illustrations are clear drawings showing the principles of a technique; however, in my opinion there should have been even more illustrations for this size text. However, this is the only real criticism I have of this amazing book.

If you truly desire to understand all the complex factors involved in unarmed combat, you will want to make this book part of your martial art and self-defense library. There is a store house of knowledge contained on the pages of this excellent book.

In conclusion, if you are a serious and dedicated student of any type of physical combat system you will want to study, and not just read this book.

Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Monadnock Defensive Tactics System)

Well I guess I should start off this review with a bit of my background so that you can fully understand and appreciate the depth of the review I am about to give on this book.

I have been a practicing martial artist for the past three decades and an instructor for 25 of those thirty years. I currently hold the rank of 4th degree black belt in the martial art of Taekwondo, not the sport version, as well as a 4th degree black belt in Karate. I have also spent a sizable portion of the past 15 years focusing more on self-defense and combatives techniques including; Krav Maga, knife combatives, firearms training, etc. During these past three decades I have worked in a variety of violence prone professions such as; eight years as a law enforcement officer, three years working at a state run mental hospital (and No, I wasn't a patient), worked various security jobs as a bouncer in various bars, nightclubs, concerts, and strip clubs. So in a nutshell, I have been around the block a few times and have seen more than my fair share of the dregs of society and the horrible things that people do to one another. And with that final thought, on with the review.

NOTE: This is a book that focuses on the more important aspect of principles and concepts over actual techniques, which as any knowledgeable proponent of the martial arts and self-defense will tell you is vastly more important than a particular punch, strike, kick, or joint technique.

This is one of the most thoroughly thought out and detailed books that I have ever seen concerning the various principles involved in various aspects of martial arts and unarmed combat. And while not perfect, I would have to say that it rates on a scale of 1 to 100 as probably 90% complete, and I would have rated it even higher had the author included a lot more illustrations and photographs to enhance the literary portion of this book instead of just having the few and sparsely placed computer images of a human body. So with that one small glitch in an otherwise outstanding book I feel that EVERYONE who is involved in the martial arts and self-defense field should own a copy of this book. It literally is that well done!

The author breaks the contents of this book down into ten major sections with numerous sub-sections under each section. Those ten sections are as follows:

1. The Basic Principles

2. Body Posture

3. Movement and Footwork

4. Striking

5. Defending Against Strikes

6. Transitions

7. Takedowns

8. Ground Fighting

9. Miscellaneous Topics

10. The Psychology of Combat

This book comes in at well over 300 pages and it is a full 300 plus pages of very sound information that can not be read in one sitting and it not intended to be read once and then put on the shelf to collect dust. The author fully intended to have the reader take this book and read one section at a time, numerous times, in order to slowly process the information and then incorporate it into your existing training regime. Like I stated earlier, I have been doing this for three decades and I learned a lot reading this book. Some of the information was new to me, while the vast majority was known, but not in as much detail as I previously thought I knew it. While there were some bits of information that I tended not to agree with completely, although that was far and few between.

The information provided in this book is applicable to anyone practicing any martial art or combative system anywhere in world. Granted some of the information may be more pertinent to your particular discipline than others, but it is all sound and all relevant even if it doesn't all directly address your particular style. For example; the sections on ground fighting and grappling may not be of rabid interest to a Taekwondo practitioner, but that doesn't mean that the information isn't relevant, especially if the Taekwondo practitioner suddenly found himself up against a wrestler or BJJ fighter.

I highly recommend this book without reservation or hesitation!

Classic Sourdoughs: A Home Baker's Handbook

Classic Sourdoughs: A Home Baker's HandbookThis book really is for the home baker who doesn't have the special ovens and tools of the artisans like Daniel Leader's Bread Alone or Nancy Singleton"s La Brea Bakery. Ed Wood's book gives instructions that can be used with any sourdough starter although I have produced far better sourdoughs with his starters than any I captured myself. There isn't a baker's yeast recipe in the entire book. If you're a novice baker or an old hand, you can learn a lot about sourdoughs from this book.

This is the only book I have found that really tells how to make sourdough bread the right way without having to use yeast. The book gives explicit instructions from the moment the starter comes from the refrigerator until the finished loaf leaves the pan. The step by step methods tell how to produce an active starter every time so the bread always rises well.

Each recipe gives different options for length of proofing cycles using different proofing temperatures. I was never able to control the temperature during proofing until I read the description for making an inexpensive proofing box described in the book. It made all the difference between success and failure.

I began following this author quite a while ago including reading ealier books because there wasn't that much information about baking sourdough bread. He has simplified the directions a little but I was never successful with his directions until I took a course at King Arthur and discovered that baking sourdoughs isn't all that complicated. Now I make naturally leavened bread almost every week. I finally trashed the silly "proof box" that Mr. Wood recommends. I occasionally dip into this book to try the recipes and I'm pretty sure some of them have significant errors (the SF sourdough turns out more like a ciabatta because either the flour or water measurments are wrong). If you want a really good book on bread baking check out "Bread A Baker's Book of Techniques and Recipes" by Jeffrey Hamelman. It has lots of good sourdough recipes based on solid baking formulas.

The thing I liked best about Dr. Wood's new book was the section on doing sourdoughs in bread machines. For the last 10 years I've been totally frustrated trying to get a decent sourdough out of a machine. Now, I'm turning out a perfect sourdough with the sourness I really like and the loaf comes out with that open texture with all the big holes of a real San Francisco sourdough.

I have used the recipes in this book and they work pretty well with the Sourdough starter from King Arthur Flour I then purchased some starters from Ed Wood and followed the instructions in the book. When they did not revive (they came dried) his basic reply was "tough" even though they claim you will get a refund. Since the book is an infomercial for his starters I would think they would be a little more friendly!!

Acupressure's Potent Points: A Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments

Acupressure's Potent Points: A Guide to Self-Care for Common AilmentsIn a nutshell, Acupressure's Potent Points: a Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments shows the reader how they can use acupressure on themselves to relieve stress related problems.

So what exactly is acupressure? Well, its an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press on key points on the surface of the skinwhich in turn stimulates the body's natural self-curing abilities. More specifically, when these points are pressed on for several minutes, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid healing. If at this point you're wondering how acupressure differs from ACUPUNCTURE, well, there's not much differencethe same points are used for both, its's just that one uses needles and the other uses your fingers.

And just what makes these acupressure points or "potent points" so special? Well, as the book explains, they are places on the skin that are especially sensitive to bioelectrical impulses in the body and conduct these impulses readily. So, by stimulating these points with your fingers, you're triggering the release of endorphins (your body's natural pain killers) which blocks the pain. This in turn increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the affected area which promotes healing and causes the muscles to relax.

Neat huh? This kind of info is covered in Part I of the book. Part II, which is about 85% of the book, covers the acupressure points themselves and the techniques for the specific ailmentsand boy do they cover the ailments! Just about everything you can imagine is covered from acne to fainting to shoulder tension. Pictures are a plenty and show you the exact areas to press onit's a pretty easy process and the book makes it simple to do. Also of note is that there are two ways to use the book, you can look up a problem by system (i.e. digestive system, immune system, etc.) via a handy chart, or simply look a problem up by flipping around as the ailments are covered in alphabetical order.

The book ends with two appendices, one being a nice point location chart, and the other a summary of the potent points. All-in-all its a pretty clear and easy to use book that should help many put an end to their stress-related aches and pains. Other pain books that might be of interest include The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution for readers suffering from plantar fasciitis.

I was skeptical of acupressure and only bought the book because my massage therapist uses it along with trigger point massage. I took it with me on a recent vacation. On the plane, I found that there were guided procedures to use for sinus problems and another set for earaches. I am always sniffling and my ears always hurt when the plane lands. I followed the procedures and found I could breathe out of my left nostril easily for the first time in years (without any drugs). Also, my ears did not hurt when the plane landed and I could hear right away. These two things alone are worth the price of the book to me.

The book also provides detailed instructions and photos to help you get the proper position of the points. Very easy to use and understand.

BUY THIS BOOK!!! I can't say enough great things about this book! With it's easy-to-understand text and helpful pictures, it's amazing how quickly you can be on the road to better health. After just one session, my sciatic nerve was no longer causing me pain. It also helped my lower back, as well as my migraines and sinus problems. While it's true that this isn't meant as a substitute for medical treatment, acupressure does work, and in just a few minutes. Almost instant relief without doctor visits and/or medication!! This book truly covers many of the aches and pains we tend to "just live with" every day. It also has treatments for emotional issues, such as anxiety, stress, and depression, to name a few. It's well worth the price: you can't even see a doctor for $13.60. In fact, I bought this book because I needed an alternative approach to pain management, as I don't have medical insurance. I'm so impressed with this book, I've bought 3 more copies for friends, and will continue buying more until everyone I know who needs one, has a copy. If you've been suffering with chronic pain like I did for years, please do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Want Acupressure's Potent Points: A Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments Discount?

I needed a quick reference for the accupressure points that are relevant to various ailments, but this book drowns the essential usefulness of accupressure with entirely too many words. It tries to present theory and anecdotes in addition to a listing of accupressure points, and ends up being unbearably repetitive. While each treatment has a step-by-step accompanied by photos and lengthy descriptions, a better format would have been to present a short list of the most effective points followed by secondary points for each treatment. As it is, a person who is trying to perform the steps would be too busy reading, rather than concentrating on the points themselves.

A much more practical guide is the very brief but far more useful book by Carola Beresford Cooke. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a lengthy thesis, then this book would be to your taste.

Pretty: The NYLON Book of Beauty

Pretty: The NYLON Book of BeautyThe book is a good skim at products that are classics and good representatives of a certain time period so you can go for that 'look.' No how-to's except a few pages at the end, which is only probably helpful for people who are already pretty adept with make-up.

This book is very simple and easily to follow. It illustrates different styles from the 1920s to the early 90s and provides simple tips on how to acquire trendy looks. There're all sorts of products featured in the book, but the good part is that product descriptions are no more than a couple of paragraphs long while the remainder of the page contains good quality photographs that perfectly portray the product being described. This is not an encyclopedia of fashion and beauty, but perfect for that someone who doesn't want to be bothered with going to great lengths for a couple of beauty tips.

This is really more of a fun book. Good inspiration for party ideas. It contains examples of classic beauty icons from each decade. Very few women of color, which is disappointing because most of the decades could have easily featured an iconic example of one woman of color and one white. This makes it seem a bit limited in how it defines beauty...

Health Hazards Manual for Artists, 6th Edition

Health Hazards Manual for Artists, 6th EditionMost artists, not to mention the hobby crafters, don't know or simply ignore the health risks related to the materials they are working with. They ignore the fact that rooms should be ventilated, or solvents, or even simple linseed oil on rags should be treated very carefully. Additionally, pouring waste solvents down the drain is criminal towards the whole neighbourhood, because it contaminates the water. Or, using turpentine excessively in one's home studio where the rest of the family is altered to the turpentine fumes, is ... what?

I think this part of art materials education has been neglected for too long and it's about time we start taking it seriously.

The current book covers different art fields and the health hazards/materials related to these. I found it rather helpful to find out about the hazardous materials that are used in scuplting, ceramic art, woodworking, etc. As not everybody is a chemist, it's a relief to have all this knowledge in a nutshell, ie. the chapters covering each art field are fairly short and it's easy to grasp the main idea. I warmly recommend it to the first year art students, as well as to hobby painters, etc. People should think about the fact that the materials that were banned in industry some umpteen years ago, but are still in common use by artists, should be taken seriously.

nice book, brand new. i brought this for my class, but never use it. however, the quality is good.

Unless one has a scientific/medical perspective, understanding fully the details of glucose in the blood can be intimidating. Dr. Brand-Miller approaches the topic from the perspective of the patient, not the doctor. A question and answer format narrows the focus of each topic. As a pre-diabetic, I found her explanations both clear and concise.

The glycemic index is an interesting concept, but for those with diabetes or prediabetes, glycemic index is not foolproof. The index was created using normal people. Those of us who have whacky systems, something that is has a low glycemic value may send out blood glucose through the roof. Interesting read, but somewhat misleading for that reason.

MAMA KNOWS FITNESS: Bells, Balance & Your Body: The Kettlebell Way to a Better You

MAMA KNOWS FITNESS: Bells, Balance & Your Body: The Kettlebell Way to a Better YouThis book is fantastic! So easy to fit Sheri's fitness "habits" into your life at any age. A must read to change your life! I learned so much from this easy to read book!

This book is easy to believe that your mother wrote it. Sheri Barnes gives the main reasons why you should exercise, advice on how to avoid the Freshman 15 (the college student weight gain), responds to your excuses on why you're avoiding exercise (especially the `lack of time' issue), how to form `good' habits, how to fix eating habits, explains the changes of the body as you age and the importance of exercise, then concentrates on the advantages of the kettlebell as your main exercise tool.

Sheri Barnes gives practical and useful advice. Some kettlebell authors suggest in the beginning that you see a certified trainer to ensure that you're doing the exercises correctly; this isn't practical for most of us. Ms. Barnes admits to using a DVD in the beginning. She recommends about what size kettlebell to use; it's ok to start light and go heavier. She said when the movement seems easy and you no longer break into a sweat, move up to a heavier kettlebell.

In her book, Sheri Barnes refers to her website, . The website has videos of her demonstrating some of exercises, and one showing her kettlebell mentor, Jeff Martone, using Sheri Barnes as a weight in an exercise. She has written descriptions and pictures of various exercises, both for abs and kettlebells. My complaint is the pictures are very small so it's difficult to impossible to exercise and refer to the book at the same time. The book is full of website addresses to explore and footnotes in case you want to check her accuracy.

I recommend this book, especially if you need to be reminded why you should and continue to exercise (Personally, I need constant nagging). I would suggest a supplement kettlebell book or two. Jeff Martone, wrote the book, Kettlebell Rx: The Complete Guide for Athletes and Coaches; this book has large, color step-by-step pictures of each exercise. Another book I would recommend as a supplement is Kettlebells For Dummies by Sarah Lurie. Sarah Lurie gives advice for specific groups (pregnant women, seniors, etc.). These three books cover the subject of kettlebells and exercise for everyone.

I got this, as an addition to my 'kettlebell' book library. She is a good writer, the book's section on changing habits (i.e. exercise, good eating, rest) are very good. The pictures showing the kettlebell moves are not...I would be hard pressed to learn kettlebell moves from the pictures in this book. There are other books which show the moves much more clear and easier to learn. I, myself, have had to lay off kettlebells for awhile. Issues with my lower back, requiring the expertise of chiropractic treatments to solve. I would recommend getting one on one training with a certified kettlebells instructor, as well as good books/dvds...your chances of injuries or overtraining would be much less.

When I picked up this book, I was looking for a new addition to my exercise routine. I wanted to do some strength training and needed something I could do at home instead of having to go to a gym. What I got was so much more.

Mama Knows Fitness is a complete guide to a healthy lifestyle. Sheri took the time to break down how to incorporate fitness and healthy living into every stage of your life from college student through retirement. She offers examples (with pictures) of how to use kettlebells, smart advice about nutrition, and the benefits of keeping your body healthy over a lifetime.

I've read a lot of different things about fitness and healthy living, but I've had a block about healthy eating. Honestly, Sheri changed that. She said (paraphrasing here) a lot of people wonder about why healthy food is so expensive and say they can't afford to eat healthy. What we should be wondering is why unhealthy food is so cheap. Change your thinking and change your life.

Anyone who battles with any excuse not to get in better shape and just needs a little push, this book is for you. Sheri's conversational writing and practical approach made me feel like she was my own personal coach. She leaves you with no excuses and shows you exactly how you can fit in a great workout no matter how busy you are. For me her kettle bell workout turns out to be the perfect fill-in when I can't get to the gym or the weather isn't cooperating for a run. I never expected a fitness book to be an enjoyable read, but this one really is! I highly recommend this book!

Eating for IBS: 175 Delicious, Nutritious, Low-Fat, Low-Residue Recipes to Stabilize the Touchiest T

Eating for IBS: 175 Delicious, Nutritious, Low-Fat, Low-Residue Recipes to Stabilize the Touchiest TummyIf you have IBS, you MUST get this book. I have had IBS for 15 of my 31 years. I have spent time and effort reading about IBS, making food diaries charting how different foods make me feel. Most of the conclusions that have taken me years to find out on my own are in this book. I wish it had been given to me when I was 16. Most books give vague suggestions that don't help. IBS is treatable, but only with diet. Nothing else I've tried has worked. And I've tried everything. I always felt like I had some psychological problem that made me have these reactions to food, but it's clear I don't. I still experience stress, but nothing gives me an attack quicker than a glass of milk or a large plate of fried food. All of the suggestions that she makes are right in line with what it took me years to find out. I knew that I couldn't drink orange juice on an empty stomach, but I thought that was only relevant to me! To think, there are millions of others who could have benefitted from this same bit of knowledge. The diet is perfect for me. There are only a few other things that are different for me. First, I am able to eat yogurt (except not frozen yogurt) without added fruit without any problems. Second, I am very allergic to MSG ..., which means I have lots of trouble with soups (because of the MSG in the broth), frozen foods, salad dressings, many veggie burgers, and the like. Lastly, caffeine causes me no trouble in small quantities. Through the use of this book as a starting off point, a person with IBS can quickly find a new way of eating that will change their life for the better. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this book. I am so happy it's been written. Hooray!

Anyone who has IBS knows that controlling your diet can be very difficult. This book helps address the issue of diet and foods for those with IBS. Eating for IBS is written in a simple and easy to understand way that makes it a pleasure to read. Also, the information in the book is not from a doctor it is from someone WHO HAS SUFFERED FROM IBS...this is what helps makes this book so good and honest.

The book itself has two main sections. The first is an overview of what IBS is and what foods work with and against your colon. Some of the great parts of this section are a list of trigger foods (and why they are trigger foods), an explanation of the different types of fiber and fiber foods, IBS kitchen essentials, and many other great tips.

The other part of the book is recipes. These are low residue recipes that work with a sensitive stomach. The categories of recipes listed are wide and include: beverages, appetizers and snacks, breakfasts, breads, side dishes and salads, soups and sanwiches, main dishes and desserts. The recipe section also contains a menu at-a-glance feature. The recipes in this book are great. They include flavor, great taste, and variety. The author of the book, Heather Van Vorous, uses many substitutes to make recipes that were normally unthinkable great for people with IBS. Also, the recipes included generally are easy to make. Another great feature is that each recipe has a very detailed nutrient analysis directly under it on the page.

The one downfall of this book is that many of the recipes require ingredients that aren't normally found on your local grocery store shelves. However, Vorous does respond to this problem by having a directory of resources in the back that includes phone numbers and web address of places where these items may be purchased. Another downfall of the book is that some of the recipes just seem to elaborate for an everyday meal--a few of them just seem so fancy they should be served at a dinner party.

Overall, this book is really fantastic. Although it has a few problems, as noted above, this book is well worth the cost. It can help people who suffer from both mild and severe IBS. The advice and recipes contained within the book help people with IBS realize that they don't have to give up great tasting food. This is a really good buy for anyone who suffers with IBS.

If you have IBS, you already know how frustrating and debilitating this disorder can be. It affects and often controls your whole life, and consumes time and money as you go from doctor to doctor, medication to medication, explore alternative healing modalities. Heather Von Vorous's book is the best $17 you will ever spend in an effort to learn to control your IBS symptoms. This is the only book on IBS written by a fellow IBS sufferer. Ms. Von Vorous is a sympathetic and understanding writer. Personally, I suffered from severe IBS and found no relief until I found Ms. Von Vorous's website..., which she has turned into her book, Eating for IBS. I followed her reccomendations and recipes to the letter for two months, and began to see my IBS in a whole new light. Not only did I greatly improve my IBS symptoms, but I discovered through this book a healthy, wholesome way to eat and enjoy food again. Ms. Von Vorous strongly believes that having IBS should not mean deprivation as far as food is concerned, but simply substitution. And her recipes deliver. Did you ever think you would be able to enjoy wonderful cakes and sweet breads without paying for it later with stomach pain and discomfort? Or eat gelato or Thai stir-fry without any consequences? Well, believe it! This book literally saved my life. Before I found this book, I weighed 87 pounds, could not tolerate any foods, and had IBS symptoms so severe I had to quit my job. Now I am gaining back my lost weight, can enjoy a tremendous variety of foods, and can live a normal, full live again. If you are ready to start managing your IBS and can open your mind to the suggestions and diet modifications that Ms. Von Vorous presents, you will be amazed at the results. As an IBS sufferer, I have infinite sympathy for others like myself who suffer from this awful condition for which there is no medical cure. This book does not propose a miracle "cure" for IBS, but it will aid you tremendously in managing it, so you can be in control of your life again! Heather Von Vorous' thorough, detailed and compassionate information and recipes are better than any pills, potions, or doctor's advice on this disease that I have come across.

In these days of low-carb mania, it's a real mind-bender to consider that red meat, butter, whole eggs, raw veggies and whole wheat bread might be bad for you -and that white rice, white bread, and white pasta might actually be good. But for IBS sufferers (at least those like me, with diarrhea-predominant symptoms and lots of gas/bloating) this can indeed be the case. Following Heather's basic strategies has provided wonderful relief in a matter of days -after months of invasive tests, ineffective medications, and futile advice from docs. Her explanation of the differing effects of soluble and insoluble fiber on IBS sufferers is the key to this diet, and many will find that they can add back "forbidden" foods to some degree after getting their gut stabilized. Who would have thought that eating things in a specific order (like eating the starch before the salad!) could actually have an effect on gut spasms? But for me, that's exactly the case.

The author's sage advice about various fiber supplements and their individual characteristics would be worth the purchase price. (Reviewers who complained that her diet doesn't work for IBS with constipation must not be following her advice about incorporating fiber supplements; I don't see how they could possibly remain blocked up under the regime she outlines.) On top of that, the recipes are great. I love food and cooking and had despaired of ever having fun in the kitchen again -always worried that what I was putting in my mouth was going to cause great suffering an hour or two later. Playing around with Heather's recipes has brought back the old thrill, and it's stuff the whole family can eat without suspecting it's some kind of special diet. The book is also packed with many interesting and tasty items you'd enjoy serving to guests.

If you're wondering about whether all these reviews can possibly be "for real," or if this is just some stupid and possibly dangerous fad diet -take the chance and buy this book. The recommendations are healthful, the diet's not going to hurt you, and you have nothing to lose except the hours of suffering currently caused by your IBS.

I am in tears and actually doing the happy dance at the same time as I write this. My IBS was so bad before finding Eating for IBS that I was up all night with cramps and throughout the day. I begged my doctor for some relief because the spasm medication no longer worked. He had no advice but to live with it and take more meds. What? No way! I searched the internet again. Then I found Eating for IBS and ordered it right away hoping it wasn't just another thing that wouldn't work but the price was very easy on my pocketbook and I thought it worth giving a try. The very first day I got relief and by the second day I had no symptoms at all. I can not say enough about this book. Everything I say seems pale to the results it gave me. The diet is so easy and fun to follow and the recipes are delicious! This is a diet? Not for me. For me it is a miracle and I stay free of symptoms and enjoy every bite of delicious food from the recipes that are so full of flavor you actually ENJOY eating instead of dreading it for obvious reasons.
