Rainforest Remedies: 100 Healing Herbs of Belize

Rainforest Remedies: 100 Healing Herbs of BelizeBeing a student of rainforest medicinal plants myself, I found this book one of the best, published or unpublished, to-date. The drawings are excellent, making field identification easy. The presentation of both the common and scientific names of plants is invaluable. I found it interesting that the Carribean people of Belize and the Carribean people of Costa Rica (where I am) use the same names and uses for many of the medicinal plants. This book is a wealth of information for such a small price, not to mention, motivation for further inquiry. Thank You!

Not the best field-guide ever, but a very competent, useful, well-compiled book overall. Drawings are useful, though could use more detail or photos in some cases. Descriptions are useful in identification.

The shining point of this book is in the details after the plant information. Uses, both local and western are given with information that would point you in the direction of further inquiries. Common and binomial names are given, making it even more useful for cross-referencing these plants.

An excellent ethnobotanic book.

Beat Overeating Now!: Take Control of Your Hunger Hormones to Lose Weight Fast

Beat Overeating Now!: Take Control of Your Hunger Hormones to Lose Weight FastDr. Isaacs breaks down the complex world of hormones and their impact on weight to a language that we can all understand. I particularly like the action plans that are presented throughout the book and the very helpful and easy to implement solutions to beating overeating and obesity. I found the book easy to read, despite the complexity of the subject matter. And most importantly, Dr. Isaacs isn't hawking a quick fix or a magic bullet. His message is based in science and health. and Reality. Calories in Calories out. Just make sure to put the right Calories In based on those that will affect the pesky hormones. I have started to implement Dr. Isaacs suggestions and have already seen improvement. I feel great and am starting to lose weight.

Over my 73 years I must have read every book on diet, nutrition and weight loss so I must consider that I am somewhat of an "expert" on the subject. Dr. Isaacs's book has made me see the human body in a completely different way and the effects of the hormones on our weight seems to be really significant. I really enjoyed the information on the relationship of the different food groups to the hormone production and how we can manipulate our bodies to our advantage. He may be down on my one of my favorites (peanut butter) but I guess moderation is the key!! This book is a must read for anyone who really cares about the obesity epidemic and all the health issues that accompany this tremendous problem.

Reading this easy formatted book is like having a conversation with your doctor at your own pace. The science behind why eating breakfast and drinking water among all of the other tips just made everything click and make sense. It's not a "diet" book, it's a gentle guide to lifestyle choices in regards to fueling your body. The action plan bullet statements at the beginning of each chapter provide both a mindset and a review of the information for each. Plenty of room in the margins for your own notes and thoughts. After years of thinking of losing weight as deprivation and struggle, I now think of what foods will be best for balancing my hormones and allow the weight loss to be a secondary side effect of doing so. Thank you Dr. Isaacs for sharing your wisdom, knowledge and enjoyable writing style.

Grow It: How to Grow Afro-Textured Hair to Maximum Lengths in the Shortest Time

Grow It: How to Grow Afro-Textured Hair to Maximum Lengths in the Shortest TimeI purchased this book back in Jan/Feb 2009. I was skeptical. I've been on my natural hair journey for 6years now. I felt like nothing she could say could possibly prove me wrong..well Miss Chicoro sure did!

Not only did I complete the reading in 24hrs (awesome read btw) but I also started implementing the process the first night! I threw away my shampoo and started co-washing. I learned about cleansing my hair and scalp into sections, using smoothing techniques both before and after detangling.

It took me 6 months to sit down and actually write this review. Why, because I want YOU to know that the information in here is golden. My hair has retained at least 4 inches since I've started w/ Chicoro's methods!!! It's healthy and strong and I LOVE IT!

Anyone who is hesitating on purchasing this book, don't. This is some solid, valuable information that I wish I had learned 6 years prior to my hair journey! Chicoro is a beautiful woman inside and out, and I am so thankful that she was willing to share her knowledge with all of us!

Happy natural journey,

Cinammon/NasdaqDiva

I have been trying to grow my hair most of my life. But it wasn't until around 1994, that I took it seriously to try and grow long hair. In that time I've read several books about natural hair & hair care -books like Lonnice Brittenum Bonner's Good Hair, Pamela Farrell's Let's Talk Hair, & Aubrey Hampton's Aubrey Organics Natural Hair and Skin Care. Chicoro's Grow It! will be added to this list.

A true hair book about hair care Grow It! is the first to demystify and codify the mindset, processes & techniques of growing LONG afro-textured hair.

This book doesn't try to push products on you. Instead, it's all about the process. About you gaining the knowledge, making the decision, & taking the steps to achieve your goals -lessons that honestly, can be extracted to achieve any goal in life. Chicoro breaks down her process into 6 simple steps -showing that growing healthy, long, afro-textured hair is not some far-off, lofty goal. It is real & obtainable.

About the only criticism I have of the book -the reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars -is that we don't see enough pictures & diagrams throughout. Besides the cover & back cover, we don't get to see her hair. As a member of longhaircareforum.com, I've seen her lush, mane of hip length natural hair, & I've also seen evidence of the process she entails in her book working for her & others. She documents her journey here:

All of this is to say, the proof is in the pudding. It's one thing to talk about "growin' some hair". It's a "whole `nother thing" to have a head full of natural hair cascading down your back as evidence:). I'm glad she finally put down her words in book form. The world of hair care is better for it.

i've been natural almost 10 years but about 6 years in there i had locs. i wish i'd had this book when i first went natural. chicoro does an excellent job of dispelling a widely held myth that black hair can't grow long!! of course i had long hair when my hair was loc'd but even i thought it seemed impossible for my hair to get long in its loose state.

the book lays out a well thought out plan that, if followed, will help you retain your hair. this is the key since breakage is the biggest enemy to longer lengths. no this book doesn't present any rocket science but it did help me reconsider/rethink some things. namely for me the concept of detangling with my fingers on dry hair and only wetting the hair with water, conditioner or oil if needed to further detangle. i always thought i had to have my hair sopping wet with conditioner while standing in the shower when detangling. this often lead to utter frustration and no doubt some breakage. the dry detangling before cleansing takes a while (the first time) but i did feel like i had more "control" of getting tangles out of my hair and loss less hair.

the rest of the topics were things that were a good reminders and some new tidbits of information i'd learned along the way from experience or the internet or other natural haircare books.

i would highly recommend this book especially for someone who is newly natural but even veterans can get something out of this. for the price it's totally worth it to help you grow your hair. as someone else commented there are no pictures or diagrams in the book but that didn't bother me one bit because you can find a plethora of natural hair pics online and chicoro does have her blog for all to see. i have several pages marked for reference. good job chicoro!

I would have given this book 5 stars but I had to knock off 2 stars because:

There were no photographs inside the book. None. No drawing, no diagrams showing how to do some of the things the author recommended. Authors need to remember that for How to books, a picture is worth a thousand words.

There was no section on protective styles, that is, the kind of hairstyles that are best at protecting the ends of the hair. It would have been great to have pictures or drawing showing different types of protective styles and how to achieve them.

OMG! What a wakeup call! My eyes have been opened! I've been natural for almost five years, experiencing growth that I never had while relaxed! I thought that because my hair is naturally curly and since I was no longer killing my hair with heat, that I did not have to do anything extra to take care of it! Once my hair achieved a length that I had never had, it started to break off due to the permanent, lighter hair color, lack of moisture and basically not protecting my ends. I did not think that I could incorporate Chicoro's methods into my daily routine (moisturizing, washing hair while braided, tying hair down at night with a satin scarf, protecting ends daily, etc.) because I thought that it would be time consuming. Once I started to practice these methods, it was not all that time consuming at all! To my surprise, I have experienced one inch of growth in six weeks! I'm excited about continuing this journey! Thanks Chicoro for your research, testimony and this book!

Husband-Coached Childbirth (Fifth Edition): The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth

Husband-Coached Childbirth: The Bradley Method of Natural ChildbirthI read about the Bradley Method of Natural childbirth during my early months of pregnancy, was intrigued, and bought this book. I really found it helpful-I got my husband to read it too. While the book's complete lack of pictures tended to be frustrating at times, especially in the exercise section, I found that having to read the actual description made me pay more attention and helped me remember what to do. After I read and understood the description, I wasn't dependent on the picture to do it right. The breathing description Dr. Bradley gives is the best thing I did during my labor - before going into labor I found it also helps with headaches :) -and they did not teach it in my Bradley class. After finishing Husband Coached Childbirth, I ended up wanting a book with pictures, and bought Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way as well. Between these two books I had a very pleasant birth experience with no pain medications. And after reading them, the Bradley classes themselves were overkill.

I did like Husband Coached Childbirth quite a bit and got a lot of information from it, however, I do not think you need to own it. After reading it through once, I never felt compelled to go back and read it again. I would suggest checking this one out from your local library, reading it through, especially the breathing description, and purchasing Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way instead.

...who said that it's like taking your lower lip, stretching it over your head, and stapling it to the back of your neck, then you're thinking, like most women,

"Why on EARTH would I want a natural childbirth?"

Well, I've done it both ways now. After years of hearing horror stories from friends & Hollywood, but stubbornly deciding that since women had been doing it for eons, I could, too, I tried birth naturally with my first child, scared to death about it ... and failed miserably. I didn't know any alternative laboring positions, or to relax, or anything I just braced for each contraction for 36 hours until I hurt so much I asked my husband to kill me. The inevitable epidural left me hurting for a week.

Well, wasn't that fun?

Then I took a Bradley class. Instead of teaching fancy breathing techniques and how to be a convenient patient for the OB, they taught relaxation "You CAN do this; and fear only creates tension, which increases pain" and what a difference. Without me fighting the contractions (which tensed up the very muscle the contractions were trying to relax), the pain went from unbearable to manageable. Sure, it hurts to have a lineman stand on your foot, but who's going to take an epidural for it?

Bradley taught me that if you're thoroughly relaxed and labor feels excruciating, something needs to change position, environment, something. If it's still agonizing, something is dreadfully wrong but if I were under an epidural, I wouldn't know that. Bradley taught that if you've been doing everything great for hours and suddenly you feel you can't take it anymore that you're in transition and will soon be pushing and have a baby! (How true that has been!) The relaxation techniques I learned helped with the early labor (remember, you can't get an epidural before 4cm or after 10cm), the excruciating afterpains of a subsequent birth, and the discomfort of sitting on a sore bum, not to mention all of life's inevitable pains ever since.

Natural childbirth left me with so much more energy afterward that my 60-something in-laws are converts, too! They can't believe that the totally drained, beaten woman they saw after Birth #1 (who was afraid to use the bathroom and couldn't sit for a week) is the same who walked from the delivery room and immediately dressed and left at 24 hours for Births #2 and #3 (and suffered very little postpartum pain after the uterine-shrinking contractions ended).

Lastly, Bradley taught me better breathing (my trumpet-playing is vastly improved!), sitting, posture, and lifting techniques for the rest of my life. And gave me a few good laughs while he was at it. Love him!

I had a drug-free childbirth, thanks in part to the Bradley Method. To prepare, I took Bradley classes and read both "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" by Susan McCutcheon and this book. The thing that disturbed me most about this book is that Dr. Bradley insinuates repeatedly that childbirth doesn't really hurt as long as you follow his instructions. Believe me, it hurts. I think Dr. Bradley has since passed away, but if he were alive, I'd really like to ask him how many times HE gave birth. I prefer to get my information from a more reliable source -a woman who has given birth herself. If you're only going to read one book, read "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way." If you're an information junkie like myself, read this one too. There's certainly a lot of info and it makes for interesting reading.

Being the dutiful book-worm that I am, I thought I should go to the "source" to understand the Bradley method. I would say that only 10-20% of this book was useful. It is hopelessly outdated, despite being a "revised edition"; Bradley spends the majority of the time railing/advocating against "standard" birth practices (heavy use of anaesthesia, no dads in the delivery room, etc.) that may have been the norm when he first began developing his method, but are no longer. In short, he's preaching to the choir. I read the whole thing and promised I would pick out the salient parts for my husband...those parts would comprise maybe 10 pages. So, my advice is: skip this and get McCutcheon's book instead, which is more up to date and more practical.

My husband and I are now big believers in natural childbirth the Bradley way. My son is 8 months old, delivered completely naturally, and I am 4 weeks pregnant with our next child, who we also plan to deliver without drugs.

This book gave us confidence in our decision to deliver without drugs when all our friends were telling us, "You must be crazy!" Resting assured that for thousands of years, millions of women had gone before me and done the same thing, Dr. Bradley puts natural childbirth into perspective. Seriously, it does not take a super-woman to give birth without an epidural. If I can do it, any other woman can as well.

This book discusses WHY and SOME of the hows to giving birth naturally. YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE THE BRADLEY CLASSES ALONG WITH READING THIS BOOK. I did not know we would need to take a 13-week course on birth before I read it. "Husband-Coached Childbirth" is NOT a complete directive on how to give birth without drugs, it simply motivates you to do it. The class is designed to instruct you; the book is designed to motivate you. It really does have helpful information in it.

We encourage all our friends to read it and consider natural childbirth. It really did give us a "push" in the right direction. :)

The Thyroid Solution: A Revolutionary Mind-Body Program for Regaining Your Emotional and Physical He

The Thyroid Solution: A Revolutionary Mind-Body Program for Regaining Your Emotional and Physical HealthI have been living with hashimotos thyroiditis for 18 years. I have been complaining to my Dr.'s off and on for years that I felt like I had symptoms of hypothyroidism, but they kept telling me that the blood tests were normal. After recently having a baby, my thyroid went crazy, and I basically had to tell my Dr. what I thought I needed. This book helped me understand that I was right! He goes into great detail about the fact that you can have a "normal" lab value and yet still suffer from low level hypo or hyper thyroidism!! I found a new Dr and have gotten myself at the other end of the "normal" range.

In addition, those of us with thyroid disease have never been told before that high cholesterol or mild depression can be symptoms of thyroid disease! This book describes all of the bodily functions effected by the thyroid AND what other diseases those of us with thyroid disease may be at higher risk for.

I can't stress enough how much this book described my life for the past 5+ years and how much better it had made me feelI now understand so much better why I have felt the way I have and have a plan for working on the situation.

This is the best thyroid book I have ever purchased and strongly recommend it to anyone with thyroid disease!!

Buy this book as soon as you are diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and read it cover to cover while you are seeking treatment. Even if you are not sure whether you have the disease, it will explain the symptoms so that you can decide whether or not to seek medical diagnosis. Many doctors don't think to look for thyroid disorders, and so it is up to you, the patient, to suggest that they test you. Once they have diagnosed the disorder, they can give you medication, but may not tell you what to expect or how to deal with it.

When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I could hardly function from day to day. The doctor convinced me that by taking a pill I would fully recover in 4-6 weeks. WRONG. The imbalance sent me into a spiral of health problems, anxiety, depression, weight loss, and appetite changes. I almost dropped out of school. I withdrew from friends and family. Even after my blood levels had returned to normal, I lived in a fog of pain and stress and confusion. I was too tired to turn pages in a book. I'm a PhD candidate and I couldn't even complete a sentence!

This book helped me take control of my life from diagnosis to recovery. It listed both the physical AND emotional symptoms that the doctors hadn't bothered to discuss. It told me which blood tests to request, and how to interpret the results. It suggested treatments and allowed me to understand my dosage scale. And MOST IMPORTANTLY it informed me of the complexity of recovery. No one had bothered to tell me that my symptoms might not resolve simultaneously with my blood levels. No one told me that the imbalance may have additional effects for which I may need supplemental medication (for instance, I required anti-depressants). Dr. Arem not only suggests medicinal treatments for these effects but also physical and psychological treatments to help people cope with the disease and aid their improvement. This book told me EVERYTHING the doctors didn't and allowed me to take control of my recovery. Thyroid disorders affect your body AND your mind, and you need to treat yourself holistically. For the first time in almost five months, I am happy and healthy in both body and spirit. But the doctors could not have done it for me. I had to be informed and take control. THIS BOOK SAVED MY LIFE!

I loved this book. I re-read it twice; made notes, and have informed many family members and friends with thyroid disease that this is a must read! As a patient, who had a hard time finding someone to diagnose my own hypothyroidism to begin with, it empowered me, to not give up. Even after my diagnosis fifteen years ago and subsequent Synthroid treatment, I have never felt "well". You start thinking that you must be crazy, if everyone says your hormone levels are fine...you must be fine! Finally, Dr. Arem explains why you may still not feel well after traditional Synthroid treatment, and he gives specific treatment options. Dr. Arem also addresses other diseases, that can occur in addition to thyroid disease, that are often overlooked by other physicians as "typical thyroid complaints". This book is good for people who have just been recently diagnosed with thyroid disease, as well as those of us who have been dealing with the disease for many years. And it will help to enlighten family members who live with thyroid patients.

It is evident from the glowing recommendations that there is not much to add to how valuable The Thyroid Solution has been to patients suffering from thyroid disease. Dr. Ridha is a doctor at Baylor Medical Center, and has plenty of background in treating those who have been undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with thyroid problems. It is recognized that many people suffer needlessly from hypoor hyperthyroidism because their internists or family practitioners are unfamiliar with endocrinology and the symptoms that present themselves. This book helps those who wonder whether they are being properly treated and supplies information in order that they can go to the right doctor. Many doctors don't like it when their patients become educated...tough. As shown by the other recommendations, obviously lives have been changed for the better. That is the yardstick by which we should measure what the medical truth is.

My family has a history of hypothyroidism. Both my grandmother and my older sister have had their thyroids removed. My younger sister was diagnosed with a cancerous bulge on her thyroid at age 3, and they were wrong, but the lump was removed along with part of her thyroid. She consequently had problems becoming pregnant. I've been hypothyroid for years. My internist was checking my peripheral neuropathy for things like MS and other neurodegenerative diseases of the muscles. Nothing came back positive. Yet, when I'd asked him to consider whether I was receiving adequate thyroid hormone, he refused to consider it. I've been lucky to have him test for changes in my thyroid once a year. The book says a known thyroid problem should be checked every 4-6 weeks, especially when the thyroid levels change. So I've been suffering with peripheral neuropathy and some other problems for over two years; I also have spent much of the last seven years anemic, in spite of removal of my uterus and subsequent iron supplementation. My sister led me to this book...she was positive I was not being treated right for hypothyroidism. After reading the book, I am inclined to believe the book and my sister. I have the familial background, the anemia, the deafness, the pins and needles, and too many other symptoms to count. So I have a referral to a known endocrinologist who is listed as a caring and listening doctor.

It's atrocious that physicians can dismiss the intelligence of women, and the ability of them to know their own body. I am tired of such patronizing attitudes, and hope that this doctor will assist me in restoring me to better health. I don't have time for this, and since I have an MS from med school in Neuroscience, I have more then enough background to know when my doctor is missing important signals.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects he or she may have a problem with their thyroid. If necessary, drag the book into the other doctors and force them to pay attention. If they don't, find another doctor.

As a person with hypothyroidism, I have read a dozen or more books specifically on thyroid disease over the last twenty years. In addition I have read approximately forty to fifty professional journal articles relating to hypothyroidism and depression. This was for me the best single source of information that I have found dealing with thyroid disease and depression; and it contains up to date information from a practitioner in the field.

Having read quite a bit about the subject, I am surprised by how many doctors I have spoken to, or read articles written by, that are very out of date in their knowledge of hypothyroidism. Many doctors don't seem to recognize the symptoms of hypothyroidism despite its prevalence in the US population. Most doctors still treat hypothyroidism with the "gold" standard" of levothyroxine (T4) alone, despite there being evidence that a combination of triiodthyronine (T3) and levothyroxine (T4) may work better in some specific cases. For depression, Dr Arem says that he often supplements antidepressant use with cytomel (T3) rather than levothyroxine because of the connection between the distribution of norepinephrine and T3 in the brain (chapter 6). This is in concurrence with what I have been able to find through my research efforts.

The mind-body connection in hypothyroidism is a complicated one, and I thought that Dr. Arem's handling of the subject was done admirably. There is evidence that depression and hypothyroidism can in some people have genetic origins. In some instances hypothyroidism might be caused by infectious agents (viruses). Hypothyroidism might also be induced by stressful events in a person life (chapter 1). All of these are covered at a level that can be understood with perhaps some work required for persons with a light science background.

There are many other areas covered in this book that I won't mention due to lack of space. These subjects include testing procedures (TSH, TRH, T3/T4, etc), and what they mean, finding and talking with your doctor, discussing your illness with your spouse, and infertility. Additionally there is a section on nutrition, diet, and exercise, which can help in hypothyroidism.

I would recommend this book whole-heartedly to anyone with hypothyroidism, depression, or who suspects that they may have thyroid disease.

The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets

The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty SecretsAlright, I have never written a review before but I just had to after receiving this book. I read it cover to cover in one day and it was redundant. They mentioned about five different "secrets" throughout the book more than once. Let me save you the fourteen bucks and give you the skinny on the "secrets"

1) Egg White Mask :Tightens pores

2) Baking soda :Gentle microdermabrasion

3) Strawberry Jello :Lip and nipple stain...I kid you not!

4) Wine in the Bath :Good for skin

5) Ice Cube in Mouth :Press it to the roof to reduce puffiness in face.

These "secrets" were mentioned numerous times. The "authors" talked to stars and make-up people and they either said they used Creme De La Mer or were trying to push their own products. It seemed like one big ad. All in all, I'm really disappointed...95% filler...5% meat!

I thought this book would be entertaining with a lot of tips and tricks for making beauty fun and easy. I love makeup and skincare. People's go-to "I didnt know what to get" gift for me is usually a sephora gift card, so you can tell this type of book should be straight up my alley. I'm overjoyed to be poking around Sephora or Ulta, but I can also be happy wandering the makeup/skin care aisles of Target or Walmart.

When this book is not spitting out designer labels left and right, they really don't have super secrets. Most is stuff you can find online about home treatments that you can mix together yourself. It also asked a lot of "professionals" and beauty gurus their "must haves" and what would they buy if they ONLY had 100 dollars. These people are spoiled brats in my opinion. 100 bucks could buy a heck of a lot of beauty stuff. One woman's answer when asked what she would do if she only had the 100 dollars was "first, I would cry...". This really just put the stamp of stupidity on this book. Don't waste your money!

Not that fond of the book. It's basically an extended tabloid. A few good tips but most is about celebs and the tools and resources they have. I would not have bought it had I been able to read a few pages in a book store.

Coach Yourself to Success : 101 Tips from a Personal Coach for Reaching Your Goals at Work and in Li

Coach Yourself to Success : 101 Tips from a Personal Coach for Reaching Your Goals at Work and in LifeI have read many, many self help books over the past decade. Some of these books are classics, others are not. This book (for me at least) falls in the "not classic" category: just too much fluff for me.

Normally I would have just donated this book to a local charity and moved on to another book. However, I feel that I must add my comments about this book, to add more balance to the other reviews found here.

Many of Talane's tips are common sense, and would be helpful to someone just starting out on the road to self improvement. Some of the tips are just plain wacky. For example, in tip 20: Feng Shui Your Home and Office, we are invited to make sure the front entrance door of our house never opens to face a bathroom. If it does, we are advised to keep the door closed. Great tip, for modesty reasons as well as for Feng Shui. We also learn that we should "never design or buy a house with a bathroom in the center of the house; it will drain out all the energy." She doesn't know why she does these things, she does just does these things because they "work".

One of the other tips that struck me as strange was the advice to identify our needs. As an example, she mentiones that some people are compulsive shoppers because they want to feel needed. If this is our need, we are invited to ask people to let us know how cherished we are for 4 to 6 weeks... that should be enough to stop the compulsive shopping. Much of the book seemed a bit too simplistic for me.

One other personal issue: each tip is prefaced with a quote from some great thinkers... however, some are dialog clips from TV episodes like Rossanne and Mamma's Family. Those types of quotes are not untelling of the level of content you will find in this book.

Like I said, if this is the first self improvement book you purchase, you will find a fairly shallow treatment of many wide ranging topics... most of which should help you begin your self improvement path. Personally, I could not force myself to finish the book: I only made it to page 174.

If you do purchase this book, don't stop with this one, keep going on to deeper, more comprehensive works.

I wish I could give more than five stars. I have a library of over 2,000 self help books, and this is by far one of the best I have read AND taken action on. Usually I read a book and put it on the shelf. This book prompts you to take action. The author walks you through getting rid of energy drains in your life, setting up personal boundaries that may have slipped, and getting your health, finances, relationships your entire life back in order and in balance. Even if you just read the book and take one action, you will change your life for the better. Give it a try. There is no filler or fluff here just concise, constructive actions to take to improve your life.

What can I say? Except that this book is the hands down best thing I have bought for myself...ever! The advice is extremely pragmatic and you'll find yourself doing things to improve your life before you even finish the first chapter. The seemingly small tasks you'll undertake usuing this book will yield BIG results -everything from getting out of debt to communicating more effectively to looking better. She does a great job of explaining how you can do some elements of the program that seem expensive and indulgent in low-cost ways. **NOTE: The majority of the tips do not require any money at all.

I am living proof that using Talane's methods work. Before this book, I was hopelessly in debt, making less than I deserved, looking and feeling downtrodden and depressed. Six months later, my credit is great, debts manageable, I make more money, enjoy my job more, I have hired an image consultant, I get manicures every week, and things just keep getting better.

You don't have to do every step in order or do all 101 at once. And you don't have to be rich. Talane helps you build a strong foundation and then take steps to reach your potential. I can't explain it, but you will find yourself taking better care of yourself than you ever thought possible...and getting out of debt, making more money, with more confidence, looking better, in a cleaner home, more relaxed, and enjoying your life more than ever before.

If you can't afford to hire Talane herself to coach you, get this book. She has been very generous with sharing her coaching techniques in this wonderful book.

I picked up the book because I was interested in life coaching as a career as well as in useful self-help/life improvement tips. Well, taking the author's words and advice to heart, I also got a better, happier life!

The book is divided into chapters of steps to take in order to move towards your ideal life personal organization, self-care, career, relationships, money management, etc. Although you are supposed to do the actions as you read them, I read the book through cover to cover first (which I recommend). Knowing all of the steps from the outset really helped to get started on the right foot when I went back the second time and started doing the steps. Plus it's exciting to see all that you will be working on and how it will change your life!

Besides an overall excellent program, the author's writing is conversational and very easy to read; the success stories are motivational and really hit home the points the author conveys.

Beware the life changes don't happen overnight. It takes belief in the system, hard work, and consistency. But my life has not been the same since reading this book. I've become a lot healthier physically and mentally, improved on all of my relationships including my marriage, moved to where I really want to live, and am pursuing the career of my dreams. I don't think I would have had the tools and the courage to do all of it without this book, and I can't imagine where I'd be now without it.

This is a book to keep in your library, to return to time and again, to reference, and to give to your family and friends. Read it, believe it, do it, and change your life!

I tried to read this book three years ago, and at the time, I would have heartily agreed with some of the other critiques. I stumbled through a few of the chapters and tossed it on my bookshelf without another thought. It did not seem to apply to my life at the time and I thought it was too much fluff for me. Oh, how little did I know back then! Fortunately, I didn't give the book away and today I'm glad that I gave it a second chance. I have learned that sometimes we are not prepared to read certain books at certain times in our lives. Just because it may not compliment our current mindset, we tend to blame the book. That is exactly what I did three years ago.

Now, three years later, with my life plate so full that it is overflowing, I saw this book as if it was beckoning me to read it. This book is exactly what I need to read at this point of my overcrowded life. The author gives point after point so applicable to me, it feels as if she has read my personal life story. The instructions are delivered in a delicate manner, yet they are dead on accurate. Some of the advice hits me to the core. I can really relate to each chapter. Sometimes with a nod, and most of the time with an "ouch".

To reap the most of this book, I kept a notebook handy because Talane gives a lot of impromptu exercises. This is great for getting the creative juices flowing on the spot and for reflecting back on my thoughts at a later date.

There is a famous quote about self development: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I am glad that I was ready when I took that second look at this valuable book. I have gained a lot from it and would recommend it to anyone who is READY to take life to the next level.

What Your Doctor Can't Tell You About Cosmetic Surgery

What Your Doctor Can't Tell You About Cosmetic SurgeryYeah, yeah, everyone's perspective is unique. Trite concept.

Except this book has something very valuable. It contains the perspective of a clinical psychologist who elected to obtain fairly extensive cosmetic surgery (for its own sake, not in order to write this book!) and observed herself go through all the emotional turmoil that this produces, which was much greater than she anticipated. She researched the existing literature on the subject, interviewed many patients herself, and then wrote a guide for laypeople to the psychology of the process of obtaining cosmetic surgery--making the decision and dealing with the outcome, good or bad.

Don't look to this book for technical information about procedures. That can change from month to month, from doctor to doctor. Together with _Survival of the Prettiest_, this is essential reading for those considering or scheduling cosmetic surgery.

The Cellulite Solution: A Doctor's Program for Losing Lumps, Bumps, Dimples, and Stretch Marks

The Cellulite Solution: A Doctor's Program for Losing Lumps, Bumps, Dimples, and Stretch MarksI thought 'Why Not Try it?" and I picked up the book at a book store. I followed the program for 8 weeks as recommended, took the supplements, followed the diet as best as I could, and did the dry brushing...I have to say, my cellulite seems to have diminished. I am now a believer.

The Cellulite Solution not only helped me to understand the cause of my cellulite but also explains how to repair and correct this condition. Dr. Murad helps to debunk the idea that you get cellulite because you are overweight and shows how cells become damaged through water loss, offering internal and external modifications, as well as dietary modifications to control and correct cellulite. I am very happy that I found this book before swim suit season, so far I am very pleased with my results.

I've always been a skeptic when it comes to beauty products and books, but The Cellulite Solution has made me a believer. I'm a 29 year old female in fairly good shape with a small build, but I have battled cellulite for years. I have tried various creams and spa treatments, but nothing has worked. That is until I read the solutions Dr. Murad provides in his book. In one week, my energy level increased dramatically and my skin looks so hydrated and fresh. It's absolutely amazing! I purchased a bottle of multivitamins (Prevention Magazine brand for women) plus three bottles of supplements that I take twice a day. I've also incorporated a lot of the fresh fruits and vegetables (listed in the book) into my daily meals. I even made the chicken and vegetable soup recipe mentioned in the book. It was delicious. The hardest thing to do has been giving up caffeine (which I'm still working on). I'm only drinking one to two caffeinated drinks a day as opposed to my previous five or more. I highly recommend this book and continue to be impressed with the simplicity of the program and especially the results. Despite what we've all been told, we don't have to live with our cellulite. Thanks to Dr. Murad, there is a solution.

The Cellulite Solution was such a wonderful, insightful book on not only educating readers on what produces cellulite, but a solution! I've always thought my cellulite was due to my 9-5 desk job and hours of sitting! I followed the regimen, which includes supplements, a diet, a serum, and dry brushing and began to notice visible changes with in the first 2 weeks, but after 8 weeks I COULDN'T believe my eyes. My skin not only feels smooth, it LOOKS better! I'm glad I gave it a shot!

This book made a lot of sense and Dr. Murad explains everything logically and in simple terms. I thought that if it doesn't work, adding more vitamins and supplements to my diet is still a good thing. Since starting this program, I have noticed areas of my body becoming more firm and overall I have more energy. Yes, I still have my cellulite, but it appears to be not as prominent. The supplements were not hard to find --and it is cheaper to find them on your own than to get Dr. Murad's supplement packets. I appreciated that Dr. Murad does not mention his products excessively in the book. There are several vitamin websites that offer great deals, and local drugstores are always having buy one, get one free sales every week. Plus shopping clubs sell a lot of the needed supplements and vitamins too.

This is a good book and I am glad I added this regimen to my lifestyle.
