The Miracle of Honey: Practical Tips for Health, Home & Beauty

The Miracle of Honey: Practical Tips for Health, Home & BeautyIf you're curious about honey and why preserving the honey bee population is important, this is a quick read you should flip through. The author certainly did their homework. Although I wish the book would have been written in a slightly less clinical manner, and that the author would have done a better job citing their sources, I found this book to be very interesting. It was full of all sorts of different honey facts. I was most impressed with the section that described the different classifications of honey.

The book also has some recipes for foods and beauty products I want to try out.

The 36-Hour Day: A Family Guide to Caring for Persons With Alzheimer's Disease, Related Dementing Il

The 36-Hour Day: A Family Guide to Caring for Persons With Alzheimer's Disease, Related Dementing Illnesses, and Memory Loss in Later LifeI have been screening these books for my caregiver father, and have found this to be the most useful, detailed and comprehensive. This book is a must! (Try "Your Name is Hughes Hannibal Shanks", by Lela Knox Shanks, along with this one, for a more personal insight, and I don't think you'll need any other books on the subject.)

The is an excellent book for any caregiver of an Alzheimer's patient. I have bought a number of these books and given them to friends/acquaintances who were caregivers. I purchased this one for a friend whose husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. It was of tremendous help to my family when my father was diagnosed a number of years ago.

Dumbbell Training for Strength And Fitness

Dumbbell Training for Strength And FitnessIn addition to listing an effective series of dumbbell exercises that work every muscle group, the authors provide important exercise guidelines. They discuss training frequency, how to perform a repetition properly, rest between sets, duration of training sessions and proper order of exercises. This not a generic, bland bookthe authors are willing to give their viewpoints on controversies in exercise.

The book includes exercise routines from strength coaches such as Dr. Ken Leistner, Jeff Friday (strength coach for the Baltimore Ravens) and several strength coaches for NCAA division 1 schools.

The book is totally essential for anyone training at home, but will be of a great help to those training in gyms. In fact, some who train at gyms will be tempted to purchase a set of Power block dummbbells (dumbbells that go from 10-130 lbs and take up about 4 square feet) and skip their gym fees. After reading this book, you will gain a greater appreciation of the usefulness and versatility of training with dumbbells.

Get this book! You will not be disappointed.

If your workout employs dumbbells (Powerblocks in my case), this book is a great resource.

Though Brzycki doesn't go into the depth of why HIT works as much as his other books (Maximize Your Training; A Practical Approach To Strength Training), the book does provide a reasonable background on training philosophy as well as rep, set and tempo recommendations.

The gem that sets this book aside from others are the thirty plus workouts from outstanding trainers at the high school, collegiate and professional level from all around the United States. Excellent stuff that will keep any training enthusiast happy for a long time to come.

Bottom line? Buy this book. It's well worth the investment in time, money and your health.

There are a couple of "cons" to this book: I agree with previous comments that the photos are too small and not always at the best angle for showing the proper positions. Also, some of the models are wearing oversized T-shirts and sweatshirts that make it hard to see how they are holding their arms, positioning the back, etc. I also agree with the previous reviewer who said the squat in this book is a Bulgarian Squat, not what people would normally do for a regular squat. And the lunge does look like a split squat, not a regular lunge. When a routine in the book calls for a squat, I do a regular squat, not the Bulgarian Squat from the book.

But overall this is a great book, with many great upper body routines, split routines, and specialization routines to choose from. Each routine was sumbitted by a different professional, and I'm enjoying sampling all the different training styles! The routines are short too, which makes it easy to stick with and find time to fit in a workout.

This book is valuable to anyone who wants to get the best results from his/her strength routine, whether training at home or training in a gym. Not only does this book describe how to train correctly (good form, proper intensity, recommended volume, etc.), it also provides many sample strength training routines that cover the whole body. This book can also teach one how to train with barbells and machines. It is not just limited to dumbells.

I keep a copy of this book on the shelf above my desk and use it as a quick reference when training my clients and/or athletes. I highly recommend this book to any trainee or strength coach/fitness trainer.

Dumbbell Training for Strength And Fitness is a well-written and illustrated guide to safe and effective dumbbell training. If, like me, you've been training with dumbbells for years and prefer it to other training methods, this book will expand your knowledge base on dumbbell training and provide a ton of tips on technique you would typically get only from a very knowledgeable personal trainer. If you are just getting started, most importantly, this book will walk you through the proper technique for dumbbell training. I cannot stress enough, especially with dumbbells, the need for "safe" training for longevity and "effective" training to achieve the results that motivate you to keep training. Great book worth the read if you train or want to start training on your own with dumbbells!

Shelter From The Storm: Caring For A Child With A Life-threatening Condition

Shelter From The Storm: Caring For A Child With A Life-threatening ConditionThis book is both a gift of profound compassion and a wise insurance policy. The entire pediatric health care team is always hopeful that a child can and will recover from a chronic illness. Despite this, physicians and nurses at times find discussion of a child's possible end of life and quality of life issues too uncomfortable to discuss for various reasons: they do not want families to lose hope, alsothe thought of considering the possible death of a child is the most devastating conversation that the healthcare team and family could ever have. Unfortuntately, the absence of this conversation can leave families of chronic and critically ill children unprepared for the peaceful, supportive, pain-free death that is possible with considerate mindfulness and preparation. Families of an ill child can sometimes unfortunately find themselves unexpectedly and suddenly saying good-bye in a crisis intensive care surrounding.

I am both an RN and the mother of a chronically ill/critically ill child...Dr. Hilden's book provides me with the compassion, possible reality, and issues that may lie ahead for my family. I am honored to receive Dr. Hilden's insight and will suggest Shelter from the Storm as recommended reading for parents of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Dr. Hildren and Dr. Tobin provide both exceptional caring and compassion as well as a guidebook to plan and consider the unthinkable: my child may not survive his chronic life-threatening disease. And now I walk on...

I understand the concept of this book. Want to know why I understand it? Because they spend more than HALF of the book saying,"The purpose of this book is to.." It takes too long to get to the point. It has great information about medical procedures in simple language, and some advice about what to expect with a dying child. Overall, this book could have been more. The authors get too wrapped up in themselves and fail to deliver to parents what they keep promising to give. It's a nice book for supplemental reading, but there are better titles out there that will offer true counsel and detail about disease and the effects thereof (On Death and Dying, etc). Also, if you are a parent that is truly struggling with these issues, take full advantage of the Child Life Educator/Specialist staff at your hospital. If there isn't a program like that, then recommend one because those people are true healers.

Assisted Living Administration: The Knowledge Base, Second Edition

Assisted Living Administration: The Knowledge Base, Second EditionJ. Allen is very knowledgeable on the subject and I would suggest a person or company to get this book if thinking about asisted living in any way.

Compared to his utterly dreadful "Nursing Home Administration" textbook, this book is like a fun summer vacation. Good information for aspiring A.L. Directors.

What She Always Wanted: A True Story of Marriage, Greed, and Murder

What She Always Wanted: A True Story of Marriage, Greed, and MurderThe book had arrived...I went to the first page and started reading from the beginning.... (keep in mind I really don't like reading long stories). I read and I read, turning each page faster as I went... chapter after chapter ... till finally at about 3 something AM, my eyes could not stay clear, the salt in my tears was making my eyes burn...I was so exhausted. I put it down, just as the Judge was about to begin the sentencing phase.... at about 7:30 I awoke , grabbed the book with the page marked with an envelope, and started reading.... I finished it about 8 something.... I will not bore you with my "how many times I cried" or "how many times I was disgusted, fearful she could get off" ... I can tell you, this was "one heck of a book!" I highly recommend this book, just keep in mind, its a TRUE STORY. Sad, very cold, heartless, selfish woman who had it ALL, is now where she belongs. As someone who knew Marjorie many years ago, I will say she finally got what she deserved. This book was very well written by a talented writer, who had me glued from page 1... that says alot! Enjoy!

Jay Orbin was a good man. Loved by family, friends, customers, colleagues, he was not someone who could go missing for long without stirring up questions.

When suddenly in September 2004 Jay wasn't making his usual meetings with his clients, the alarms were sounded. While everyone, including Jay's brother and parents, were disturbed by the unanswered calls to Jay's cell phone, his wife, Marjorie, was strangely dismissive of the uncharacterist behavior.

In October 2004, a tub bearing a man's torso was found in the desert. It didn't take investigators long to learn the corpse's identity: Jay Orbin.

Through her own unbelievable actions and words, Phoenix housewife Marjorie Orbin would be charged with the first degree murder of her husband.

Would a jury believe that she was framed by her lover who killed Jay out of jealousy? Would the case against Marjorie crumble amid the criminal wrongdoings of a lead detective?

Emmy-winning investigative reporter turned true crime writer Camille Kimball outlines the case of State of Arizona vs. Marjorie Orbin in her new book What She Always Wanted: A True Story of Marriage, Greed, and Murder.

Some of you may recall the 48 Hours Mystery episode that aired in November 2009 about this case. If, put it out of your mind because this book isn't slanted in Marjorie's favor no matter how much she tried to convince Kimball otherwise during personal interviews.

I found these 289 pages to be a fast-paced, very emotion-provoking read that was well-written (not copied from a Court transcript); providing the best details without becoming bogged down in the boring "stuff."

If you haven't already, put What She Always Wanted by Camille Kimball on your reading list. It's a must read in true crime for 2010!

Jay Orbin was held in high regard by many. He was a successful businessman based in Phoenix. His business, distributing jewelry and souvenirs in several states, grew because he worked hard and treated his customers well. He was also the doting father of a young son. But, tragically, he met a violent death in 2004. All that was found of his body was the headless, limbless, torso. Charged with the murder was Marjorie Orbin, who lived with Jay as his wife, although the two had secretly been divorced years before Jay's murder.

I had not heard of this case before stumbling on the book, though it was featured in a 2009 48 Hours episode. The suspense of not knowing the verdict kept me turning the pages. So, I don't want to spoil it.

There are some gruesome details here regarding Jay's corpse. I nearly hurled all over my Kindle a couple of times. It seems to me that human behavior cannot get much lower than some of the acts described during the trial.

A big plus was author Camille Kimball's statement that as she wrote the book she kept in mind the likelihood that Jay's son would someday read it. I thought this was most commendable. It seems to me that many authors do not care about the sentiments of any one reader.

Read it in one sitting. Very well written. Exciting even though you kinda know who-done-it from the start. One negative: as with many Kindle books, THE PICTURES ARE OMITTED. Why?????

This is a wonderfully written book! I couldn't put it down. It was written with as much detail and facts that the case involved. Unlike the 48 Hours show that focused on Marjorie's lies and not the truth of the case, this book follows the true details, case facts, and the family and friends' anguish. Sad but true story in a very well written book. Well worth the money and time!

Kelly Reising has a knack for conveying quick and interesting beauty tips in a fun and effortless way. Many of the tips in this book are things that make you go, "Oh, yeah. That's a good idea!" I think this is also a great book for women wanting to get back into makeup trends after a hiatus. I won't feel like such a moron now when I go to the makeup counter of a department store and investigate a clear mascara as if it were some futuristic robot or something. I also like how the author suggests using one's own natural beauty and enhancing it with minimal makeup.
