Being over-weight most of my life and on every diet known to man I have struggled with knowing how to eat out, know what true portions look like and how to properly track what I'm eating. This is a must have! This book teaches you so much! I now have confidence in knowing how to order my food in a restaurant and be confident of not blowing my weight-loss plan. I also love the fact that this book shows the calories, fats, saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, sodium, carbs and fiber! You really know what you are getting when eating out! I am very disappointed in this book. It was hyped in our local newspaper and I immediately ordered it from the author's website. According to our paper and the website you can find out the fat content and fiber content of foods from many restaurants and it said it included Outback, Cheesecake Factory and Olive Garden to name a few. I got the book today and immediately turned to Outback to see how my favorite menu items fared as I am following Weight Watchers. I was sorely disappointed to find out that "No nutritional information is available." It suggests grilled shrimp, omit the butter, steamed vegetables; all of which I already knew. It lists "Limited nutritional info available" for Olive Garden and only lists a few lunch time items. As for Cheesecake Factory it states they offer "Weight Management Salads" each under 590 calories. That is already listed on the menu in the restaurant. Again, nothing new to learn here. It goes into detail for places like McDonalds and Burger King. Anyone who is a member of Weight Watchers has access to the fat and fiber content of their prepared foods already from materials available from Weight Watchers. This book was a waste of my hard earned money. It is definitely a case of "let the BUYER BEWARE"!

The most memorable tip is advising readers to just cut 10 calories a day if they want to lose a pound in a year! Granted, this isn't a lot of weight loss, but just the knowledge that if you ADD a simple 10 calories a day to your diet, you will have GAINED a pound in the next year might help you see how simple it is to cut out 10, 50, maybe even 100 calories and lose TEN pounds in a year!

Dr Jo then moves onto tips for meals, giving suggestions on how to order a healthy breakfast, then offers points to consider when eating American style dinners, and finally breaks down various ethnic cuisines, showing what to watch out for, what to order, and how to stick with your goals while eating at Middle Eastern, Asian, or Mexican restaurants, to name a few.

The final section of the book is a listing of about 5,000 specific menu items for nearly 70 different facilities.

What I like most about the book: Readers can actually see the size of ½ cup of pasta, or what the difference is between a one ounce and a four once bagel. I also like the `calorimeters', charts that show choices from lowest fat and calories to highest choices. Finally, the details for the ethnic restaurants are much better than I have ever seen in other books offering similar information. A great resource!
