For anyone who's trying to figure out what's going on with a family member suffering from Alzheimer's, there are some great practical insights in this book. It should also be required reading for anyone who is caring for dementia patients in assisted living or any other facility. The case studies are very revealing about how misunderstanding of these conditions can lead to inappropriate handling of situations and unnecessary distress for both patients and caregivers.

I'm buying copies for my public library, church library, and for the operator of the wonderful personal care home where my mother now lives. Thank goodness her caregivers are interested in all they can learn about doing a better job.

I am a newcomer to dementia care in my household and was having serious trouble getting beyond the platitudes and shallow descriptions of the conditions that are called dementia. This book goes a very long way in getting behind the most casual behaviors by which we can recognize the condition and the stages in which our loved ones are found.
