Beautiful Black Hair: Real Solutions to Real Problems--A Step by Step Instructional Guide

Beautiful Black Hair: Real Solutions to Real Problems--A Step by Step Instructional GuideI was surfing the net for a hair care book that would help me with my hair problems. I read the reviews for Beautiful Black Hair and ordered it. My hair was dry, brittle, and thinning in spots. I read Shamboosie's book and was so impressed with the information that it provided, it was hard to put it down. I finished it in one day. I ran out and purchased the products he recommended that same night and he is absolutely correct, the right products make a world of difference. I followed the formula's he recommended and saw results after the second treatment. My hair looks and feels so much better. He knocks no-lye relaxers and that's okay because I don't use it anyway. However, I do know people with very beautiful healthy hair that does. As he points out, the key to a great head of hair is conditioner, conditioner, conditioner. Definitely one of the best hair care books on the market especially for women or men with flat cell (kinky) hair.

I read this book completely in one night. (which is very different for me.) The book jumps all over the place with the advise. Kind of repetitive at times, but I guess he just wants us to remember key points. I agree with some of the points, but some of his advise, I find a little questionable. He stresses use of lye relaxers which I agree with, but he only recommends one. He recommends a few expensive brand products and poos other brands. Outside of the model on the cover, the other pictures of his clients hair is not all that great. They look very average and they have thin whispy looking hair. I tried his method against my better judgement. [After spending a bit of money,] my hair doesn't look any better than it did before. I hope by the time I have used all this expensive stuff I will have noticed some difference. I had to buy the Dudley creme' online through the company. I couldn't find it locally. I gave it 3 stars because he does give some great info on how hair is broken down, relaxers and heat protection.

Shamboosie is the ONLY hairdresser on the planet that I allow to touch my hair. This is not an exaggeration. The man knows what he's talking about and what he's doing.

I loved this book. Before I read it, no matter how hard I tried, my hair would break off when it reached 4 inches in length. I asked myself if it could be true that most of the blame was in the "no-lye" relaxers and the wrong products.

You can take it from me...everything he says in this book is true. (And I wasn't totally convinced until my hair grew so long that it reached the middle of my back)

My hair looked GORGEOUS in the Mrs. America Pageant. (I was Mrs. New Jersey)

Do yourself a favor and buy this book for yourself and anyone you know and love who's tired of wasting money on weaves, curling irons, grease and the other tools of the trade. It'll be the best investment you've ever made in your appearance.

See my hair for yourself: Look at the back of the cover of my new book PRAYERS FOR THE WORKING MOM: 7 SECRETS TO PHENOMENAL SUCCESS.

That's really my hair!

No weaves.

Absolutely no "no-lye".

No inferior products in my house, let alone my hair.

And the hair grows and grows.

I ordered the Beautiful Black Hair book, as part of an free offer for enrolling in a book club. I was very doubtful about the promises of having longer, stronger, healthier hair with following Shamboosie's program. I purchased the suggested products and followed the conditioning program every four days. Within three weeks, I noticed a great difference in my hair. The first thing a I noticed, was my hair not shedding or falling out every time I combed it. My hair appeared softer and had a shine to it. I was so surprised!! I actually bought a product that does what it promises to do. I am sold. I have been following this program for three months. My hair is stronger, looks very healthy and is easier to manage. I receive positive comments from peers and family about the condition of my hair. Shamboosie's book is easy to read and follow. He gives real solutions, and a step by step guide towards achieving your goal. This book was very helpful and informative to me. It enlightened me on all the damage I had been doing to my hair all these years. I want to thank Shamboosie for this book, and making it available to all black women. GREAT BOOK!!

First, I have to point out Shamboosie's belief of no-lye relaxers. I know many of us can join the No-Lye Relaxer Club: "Hi my name is ____ and I have used a No-Lye Relaxer." I have used lye relaxers in the past, and before receiving this book I made the mistake of using the No-Lye Touch Up kit on the market. After reading Shamboosie's book, I now understand why I was experiencing dryness and itching that I wasn't prior to using the no-lye touch up., Like other reveiwers I was debating between Shamboosie's book or Ms. Howse's book. I think this book was a MUCH better buy. I read Ms. Howse's review of Shamboosie's book @ http://www.ubhpublications.com/PDFs/BBH.pdf and just quickly let me point out her negative flaws of this book and my opinion:

She mentioned that she didn't agree with Shamboosie reccommending Nexxus products because they are not for black hair. Maybe she sees Nexxus as a "non-ethnic" product However, as Shamboosie mentioned in his book. It's not whether the product is ethnic or not, it's the highquality ingredients that matters. I agree.

She focused intensely on the fact that we should use no-lye relaxers and it won't hurt us. However, on her site she says she uses Affirm Relaxers, I thought Affirm was a professional slaon relaxer containing lye??

I'm not saying that Ms. Howse is not correct in her findings and I'm not saying that Shamboosie is completely correct in everything he suggests. But his book is on point and has chapters on everything concerning our hair. He includes step by step instructions, product reccomendations, and a breakdown of each item that we put on our hair. I truly believe that with this book, you can grow the hair that you are losing or have lost due to improper care. I'm taking his suggestions to heart, and I'm sure that I will benefit from it.
