The Book of Massage: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Eastern and Western Technique

The Book of Massage: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Eastern and Western TechniqueI'm not interested in massage professionaly, just for my boyfriend and I to have a way to treat each other. And this was the perfect book for us to learn. It goes over the three main types of massage in a clear precise manner, describes each kind of stroke, the positions the massuesse should be in for each stage of massage, everything! This is a great book for trying at home. It would be a cool if they did it with a spiral bound though so that you could leave it open to a certain page....

As someone who is about to graduate to be a Massage Therapist, I find the techniques in this book to be good, and the massage sequences outlined in the Sweedish Massage quite similar to the sequences I learned in school. The pictures and diagrams are thorough, and the instruction on Shiatsu is good as well.

From a professional perspective, I had some problems with this book though. One big probelm is the book discounts knowledge of anatomy as unnessicary for massage, and I strongly disagree with that. Massage is applied anatomy, and the study of anatomy is essential for anyone who wishes to be a massage therapist, or even a good ameture. Without understanding what it is you are pressing, kneading, rubbing, and tapping you're not going to be able to be very theraputic.

I was dissapointed that the book hardly touched on contraindications(cautions, conditions in which massage can be harmfull) such as cancer, diabeties, AIDS, alcohol consumption and others. Where it does mention contraindications, it's more of a short sidenote than anything.

The book has full nudity in most of the books pictures. While this isn't a bad thing nessicarily, I didn't see any information about draping procedures and protecting client modesty. Also, most of the massage is done on the floor, rather than a massage table and there was little discussion of body mechanics of the therapist. I get the feeling the book was actually meant for 'sensual' couples massage, rather than a guide for someone who is out to become a good massage therapist. In that light, it is a decent book for couples sensual massage.

I wanted a basic book of massage techniques, this is it. I also bought another book with photos that I don't find nearly as good. This one has drawings with helpful diagrams as to direction etc. This book also covers the basics of shiatsu and reflexology but by far the most extensive section is on massage. I learned a lot just from scanning the text and studying the diagrams/drawings. This is a great book and worth the money.

As a fibromyalgia patient, I've found massage to be a great help in managing my disease. When my husband indicated he'd like to learn how to help me through painful moments, I began looking for a book to help teach him the basics. The combination of clear instructions, multiple suggestions for customizing massage experiences, and fantastic illustrations made this a winner (and I checked out about twenty or so different books). For someone who started with movements similar to what you'd use to pet a cat, the techniques absorbed from this book greatly increased not only his skills but his creativity in working knots out of sore muscles. I also found myself suddenly figuring out exactly how mysterious moves (from the client's perspective) were pulled off, such as using forearms or elbows instead of just palms or fingers. A few combinations of area-specific instructions intrigued me, and once suggested to a massage therapist, ended up being just the ticket for sore shoulders.

Althought you can learn incredible things from this book, it's not a substitute for actual training. Even my middle-ground position as having learned from several talented massage therapists and being able to replicate their results on friends and family members do not make me nearly as adept or knowledgeable as the professionals. It's a resource and perhaps a "Layman's Guide," but not nearly enough to open a business on or to claim expert status. It's not at all comprehensive of all the techniques out there, but it's a great place to start.

Although some of the illustrations are not youth-appropriate (I would not give this to a teen curious about massage), they are still handled tastefully and within context most of the time, especially considering when this was published. While my experiences in massage have always included being covered or semi-clothed, I can understand some of the rationale behind the body-baring photographs. Another note is that this book also features aromatherapy and cultural ideas of healing/massage, especially Eastern techniques. The authors don't seem to claim that these beliefs are absolute/completely necessary for massage, they do take them seriously and present them as concepts to consider and potentially include in a massage experience (personally, I don't buy into them).

Overall, if you're wanting a clear, concise guide that goes in-depth on massage techniques without being too complicated for beginners, I highly suggest getting this book.

Want The Book of Massage: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Eastern and Western Technique Discount?

As a connoisseur of massages and a practitioner I thought to get this book for a friend of mine who is beginning their own massage practice. Although the title promises alot, it really just gives you the following information:

-Basic Western Massage (Basic Body rub techniques)

-Shiatsu

-Reflexology

There are many of other disciplines I would have liked to see covered, but for fundamentals it is a good beginners book. It gives you the basics and some common sense advice on creating an environment and why human touch is so important. The illustrations are easy to understand, and the artist conveys the sensuality of touch very well. If you want an introductory book this is one to get, especially for the novice and beginning masseur/masseuse.

The Insider's Guide to Dementia Care: What You Should Know About Assisted Living, Alzheimer's, and D

The Insider's Guide to Dementia Care: What You Should Know About Assisted Living, Alzheimer's, and Dementia CareFor anyone who's trying to figure out what's going on with a family member suffering from Alzheimer's, there are some great practical insights in this book. It should also be required reading for anyone who is caring for dementia patients in assisted living or any other facility. The case studies are very revealing about how misunderstanding of these conditions can lead to inappropriate handling of situations and unnecessary distress for both patients and caregivers.

I'm buying copies for my public library, church library, and for the operator of the wonderful personal care home where my mother now lives. Thank goodness her caregivers are interested in all they can learn about doing a better job.

I am a newcomer to dementia care in my household and was having serious trouble getting beyond the platitudes and shallow descriptions of the conditions that are called dementia. This book goes a very long way in getting behind the most casual behaviors by which we can recognize the condition and the stages in which our loved ones are found. It is a great help in deciding on proper care by others as well. Excellent source of information.

Your Best Face Without Surgery

Your Best Face Without SurgeryCan a book about your skin be elegant? I think this one is, not because of gorgeous or flashy graphics, but because it is easy to read and reference, thorough without being overly technical, and full of straightforward information about our skin. If you are looking for information about skin care that cuts through the sales pitches and pseudo-science we're bombarded with in magazines, on TV, and at the cosmetic counters, this is the book to get.

Is laser surgery the solution for you? Dr. Irwin will help answer that question and tell you what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. How can you shrink your pores? Despite what the label may say on that pricey potion you bought, Dr. Irwin will tell it like it is -you can't. But she'll let you down easy, telling you what you can do to at least make them look smaller.

I swear anyone following Dr. Irwin's advice will save money on their everyday skin care routines. For one thing, you'll probably learn you need about half as many separate lotions and potions as you currently use. Also, she'll tell you which drugstore cleansers and creams work just as well -and even better -than the expensive ones.

Written by a woman doctor who understands our desire to look our best, this book is warm, practical, and intersting to boot. (Did you know there is a gene for blushing?) Definitely a great buy.

I watched the Oprah show yesterday on "Look Younger, Live Longer" and was impressed with Dr. Irwin. I have read her book (Your Best Face) and recommend it to anyone looking to improve their skin without invasive cosmetic procedures. Lots of straight-up advice and current info on new cosmetic dermatology technologies.

The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the JobLast year I had a back injury that left me immobile for two months. During that time I read four back books to "empower" me with knowledge and tips for recovery. Dr. Homola's book (now with post-it-notes stuck in numerous chapters) was the most helpful. From helping to determine causes of pain, to outlining simple excercises you can do without buying expensive equipment, this book was the only one I really needed to read. It's a book I'll keep on hand as a helpful resource for years to come.

I found this book very informative and have reccomended it to several others. When my herniated disk was causing lots of pain, I was desperate to get some relief. I just happened to find a reference to the author somewhere on the internet and even actually called him. He was very gracious to talk to me, shared some advice and kept me from making a very expensive decision concerning chiropractic care for my entire family. His book is straightforward and understandable. I thank him for the words of advice and his expertice, if your back is giving you trouble in any way, you'll find this book to be quite an interesting read. Thanks Mr. Homola!

I found Dr. Homola's book to be very beneficial. His straight forward approach to problems and cures was refreshing. Having been in the care of many chiropractors over the years, its an eye opener to read some practical ways to lead one to better health. The only people that would have a harsh opinion about this book are those with an ulterior motive or who do not understand that a simple way of helping people to better health is the best way.

Aging Backwards: Secrets to Staying Young

Aging Backwards: Secrets to Staying YoungI was disappointed in this book. The material really isn't anything new.

The book's lay-out is poorly designed...huge quotes from professionals in the center of pages. I assume this is to make-up for lack of content. The author's personal stories and experiences are funny, but I wasn't expecting a mini-auto biography. If you absolutely know nothing about making healthy choices (don't smoke, avoid over-exposure to sun) and need the very basic tricks to look and remain feeling a bit younger, then this is the book for you. If you need something more substantial I think Christopher Hopkin's book, Staging Your Come Back, is far more "to the point" and better written. As for anti-aging health tips, you can easily find the ones listed in Aging Backwards on-line for free. Seriously, there are more informative books available.

I purchased this book because the topic interests me a lot and the reviews for it were so great. I was expecting to learn something but instead found a most pathetic book. In it it had so much information on the most boring topics. Things like road crash statistics, crossword puzzles and how she used to be obese and was on a 8 month icecream diet. I hated this book and found the info in it useless.

Buy Aging Backwards: Secrets to Staying Young Now

Very disappointed in this book. Like the other reviewers said, it is so light on content that big pull-quotes from so-called experts are used on every page to take up space. Much of this content appears like cut-and-paste material from other sources. The arrangement of the content seems very disjointed. Hard to follow. Not logical. Not an easy read.

Osteoporosis: An Exercise Guide

Osteoporosis: An Exercise GuideMs. Bissinger's book, Osteoporosis: An Exercise Guide is a elegantly simple guide to help prevent and treat osteoporosis.

As a physician working with patients at risk for osteoporosis, I have found the book to be a great educational tool. The exercises are easy to perform thanks to its concisely written and well-illustrated format.

In addition to a complete exercise program, Ms. Bissinger has included a section on posture and body mechanics. This section is an important complement to any exercise regimen. The way one lives their daily life is crucial in preventing back and spinal injuries.

Thanks to Ms. Bissinger for her terrific book.

This book is only 27 pages long. It is more of a booklet than a book. However, it has great exercises (about 15 in all) with well-drawn illustrations and easy to understand text so there's no problem doing the excercises, and you can easily incorporate most of them into day-to-day living. There is valuable information for anyone dealing with low bone density. I learned quite a lot about which exercises are beneficial for a person with low bone density, and (even more importantly), which exercises could cause injury.

From the Heart Through the Hands: The Power of Touch in Caregiving

From the Heart Through the Hands: The Power of Touch in CaregivingThis beautiful book captures the soul of touch. In my work as a massage therapist with hospice and elderly patients, I return to it again and again. It's the book I show others who may be interested. But more than this; it deepens my practice with all clients; and in its resonance with

the very best of me, enriches all my relationships.

I bought this book to learn how to use TOUCH in the appropriate way for the elderly/sick. Though it spends some time doing that, the majority of the book--which is large--focuses mostly on emotional and caring issues instead. I must say that I found this information comforting, informative and heartwarming. It reiterates things we know, but focuses more on the "heart" and caring for a person. It reminds us how important it is to spend time with an individual. "Individual" is defined as the person's essence so that we focus on the real person instead of on their physical disabilities. Though this wasn't why I bought the book, it enhanced a lot of things for me.

This is a simply amazing book. It is wise and very inspiring. The main message I took away was that you don't have to be a licensed CMT to give healing through the touch: just connect with the person to whom you are giving touch, and keep your heart open. It addresses the ever increasing elderly population's needs for touch, and offers real solutions for healing and service. I felt like I imbibed Ms. Nelson's many years of spiritual practice through the pages, and as a result felt healed by proxy. I am more confident in my skills as a healer as a result of this book ( I am a yoga teacher). I will apply what I have learned about touching with presence and openness to my work as well as my life. Plus, my husband is really loving the benefits of my reading this book already, as I practice on him. Thanks to the author. A much-needed book.

Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way: Revised Edition

Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way: Revised EditionMy first child was born after we attended Lamaze classes. Nothing in that birth was as I 'planned' and everything I did not want to happen...happened. I was an observer of a process that did not feel related to me.

During my second pregnancy we bought this book and attended the Bradley classes. This birth was excellent and wonderful!! I delivered a 10lb 3oz. baby boy with absolutely NO interventions (IV, drugs, epesiotomy etc.) and LOVED every minute of it. It was MY birth!

This book and the associated classes made all the difference in the world!! This book is not meant for those looking for the 'middle ground'. Bradley childbirth is NOT the 'middle ground'. If you are looking for reassurrance, practical relaxation techniques and guidance for your coach AND you are planning for a natural, personal childbirth THEN this is the book for you!!

I found this book extremely informative on Bradley technique but kind of scary when talking about alternatives and hospitals. After having two babies using medications, I was desperate to find another option. The book is extremely good about detailing the feelings you have during pregnancy and childbirth. Working on the birthing techniques with my husband was priceless and helped create a special bond between us. After having our third child without medication I have got to tell everyone how much better a drug free birthing experience can be! I only paniced once. I had praticed the pushing visualization so well it only took three pushes for our daughter to be born! The scary part can be avoided by skipping the information on Lamaze, hospitals, and doctors. It is out-dated and frightening. Move on to the excercises and have a wonderful birth experience!

Buy Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way: Revised Edition Now

Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way is an excellent resource on the Bradley Method. Author, Susan McCutcheon introduces you to the Bradley Method, explains how it differs from Lamaze, discusses how to choose your childbirth educator and your doctor, explains the importance of nutrition and how to prepare yourself for this life transforming experience.

In addition to the general information she provides in helping you to prepare, she thoroughly walks you through the Bradley Method. Through exercise, illustration, nutrition, and practice, McCutcheon completely covers how you should prepare and deal with both First and Second Stage of Childbirth. Finally, she closes the text with a discussion of various childbirth controversies -episiotomies, caesarean sections and homebirth.

This book excels in preparing you for a Natural Childbirth, as defined by the American Academy of Husband Coached Childbirth -a birth that is without unnecessary medical intervention. However, some view her tone as "fear tactics" or "outdated" ideas. I disagree. Rather, she educates you on the principles of Bradley and provides you with the ability to recognize when the medical personnel are undertaking a procedure for their convenience or for your best interest. In short, she provides you with information and proven tools to make informed decisions and take responsibility for your birth.

Despite the strengths of this book, I highly recommend that, whenever physically possible, the reader enroll in a Bradley class to supplement the reading in this book. If you *really* desire a Natural Childbirth, the class will provide you with the knowledge, practice and support you need to achieve your goals. Though this book is excellent, your instructor is almost essential -she can guide you in recognizing when you need medical assistance and when you do not!

After having tried the Lamaze method and ending up with an epidural and feeling very "out of control" during my first delivery, I went in search of more information to help me through my second delivery. I happened upon this book at a garage sale and decided it was worth a gander.

While I agree with other reviewers that the book had some dated photos and information, this did not interfere with my personal purposes for buying the book.

Having gone through the process once, I was seeking a method which:

*informed me in detail about what my body was doing through the birthing process and how I could work "with it" (rather than "escape" from it)

*gave me natural alternatives for relaxation and bearing the pain (rather than "panting techniques," how to balance on a birthing ball, focusing on imaginary "special places," getting an epidural when I couldn't take it anymore, etc.)

*gave me exercises to prepare my body ahead of time for the physical demands of labor

*gave my husband information so he could be part of the process and feel confident in his ability to coach me through

Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way proved to be the book that would meet these needs. Putting this information to use during my second labor was amazing. I was able to use the relaxation techniques at home for as long as possible. My husband was able to correctly judge when to get me to the hospital. We were able to get through the transition stage, knowing what the signposts were and that I was "almost there." I was only at the hospital an hour before my son was born. I felt great afterwards without drugs and was more than ready to go home the next day.

Having read this book "with a grain of salt," overlooking the harsh opinions about the medical profession, my husband and I used it as a tool to educate ourselves about my body. It gave us the confidence that with God's help and with an understanding of the design for birth, we could make it through. I was personally also grateful to have a very capable doctor and nurses who were very willing to work with me, and actually stated that they were very refreshed to see my husband and I working together for a "natural" birth.

In conclusion, every birth is different, but I see this book as a great tool to be used with an open mind, not knowing exactly what your personal labor will be like. It is important, however, to invest time in learning and practicing the methods in the book if you really want to reap the benefits.

Want Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way: Revised Edition Discount?

For a book that was revised in 1996, the information about hospital practices is very dated, and the author is antagonistic towards hospital personnel. As a labor and delivery nurse I know of no hospital (in my area at least) that straps a woman to a delivery table or condones the "routine" use of episiotomies and assisted births (forceps or vacuum). Also, rooming in (mom and baby not being separated) is the norm, rather than the exception. The descriptions of what happens pysiologically during labor and delivery are good and I find the relaxation information helpful, not only for my next birth, but to help the mom's I'm working with relax. Get the book, skip the skewed views on hospitals and medical personnel or get the low down on the hospital you'll birth in from several people who have birthed in the same hospital

Homeopathy: An A to Z Home Handbook

Homeopathy: An A to Z Home HandbookI found this to be an excellent resource for basic homeopathy. It is written clearly, and is full of information, however, very easy to read. I read it in a weekend, and figured out some very beneficial remedies for myself. It includes a reference by illness, as well as a guide to some of the more common remedies. It covers common problems, as well as life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Also includes sections on newer, exotic and as-yet-undiscovered illnesses (such as antibiotic-resistant strains, anthrax, influenza, etc), as well as sections on simple way to make your own remedies. The history and success rate of homeopathy are very impressive... Homeopathy is also fast acting, and very inexpensive (averages around 8 cents per dose). I never knew the AMA was formed by physicians in reaction to the high success rates and low cost of homeopathy... not surprised. Anyway, I think it's an excellent book. If I were to buy one book about homeopathy, this would be a very sound choice.

This is such a well written book with lots of great information. Not only does Alan Schmukler give information for common illness, but he also goes into what to do in case there is and epidemic. As he mentions, these are strange times with diseases resisting antibiotics, terrorist attacks and so forth. I feel better prepared with this book and purchasing the remedies needed to have on hand in case something major happens and hospitals are too full or if I can't even get to a hospital... I'll know how to take care of me and my family from the simplest cold all the way to Anthrax. This is a must have book!

How to Choose a Nursing Home: A Guide to Quality Caring

How to Choose a Nursing Home: A Guide to Quality CaringThis comprehensive guide, written by a geriatric nurse with over fifteen years experience in long-term care, will help you select a home that will give your loved one both quality care and a place to live with dignity.

It will answer such questions as:

* What kind of care does your relative need?

* What is the cost of care and who will pay the bill?

* What are the qualities to look for in a good nursing home?

* How can you recognize a substandard facility?

* What are the qualifications for Medicaid and Medicare?

* Where can you get further information on financial assistance?

* What can you do if your relative is unwilling to go to a nursing home?

* What should you do if you find the care to be inadequate, uncaring, or in violation of state or federal law?

Excellent straight forward guide. It's not easy taking this difficult step for one or both of your parents nor will they necessarily agree with you. This specialist author has evidentally seen it all and knows of all those sensitivities in dealing with a parent while providing a helpful guide, from an "insiders" point of view, on what to look for and what to watch out for. All the homes are businesses first and foremost to make money. Care of an elderly "customer", so to speak, that may not be around to complain in a couple of years or worse doesn't even have the speech facility to complain, puts these homes in the driver's seat. I appreciated this "insiders" guide with how to see through all that and make the right choice.

The Low Dose Immunotherapy Handbook: Recipes and Lifestlye Advice for Patients on LDA and EPD TreatmentWhen I was taking the EPD/LDA treatments this book was a MUST HAVE to keep my diet interesting and tasty during the elimination period. Nickie shows the reader how to liven up the diet and make the food taste better by her recipes and helpful hints.

I am a big fan of Ms. Dumke's work, but there just was'nt much to this book. It was somewhat useful and it's the only book on the subject I could find, but I wish there was more info about the history, the science, real life experiences and how to cope, especially for a small child. A few more recipes for the shot time would have been helpful too, although I realize the ingredient list is pretty scanty.

Buy The Low Dose Immunotherapy Handbook: Recipes and Lifestlye Advice for Patients on LDA and EPD Treatm Now

I was really hoping this book would describe the process of preparing for the shot and describe the overall biological processes involved etc., but this book was rather simplistic and it predominately aimed at just recipes for meals around the shot time. I could have figured that out for myself. Wouldn't recommend this book.

This book includes all kinds of practical information about LDA/EPD and complying with its complex treatment protocol, including many recipes for both the LDA/EPD and Mixed Up Diets. I found that Nickie's book included many of the same strategies that have been successful for our family as we learned by trial and error through 13 years of treatment. For anyone trying to make the decision about whether or not to start LDA/EPD, I believe that the book provides a very realistic approach to evaluating whether this treatment is feasible if you are willing to make it a priority in your life.

Ten Keys to Helping Your Child Grow Up With Diabetes, The

Ten Keys to Helping Your Child Grow Up With Diabetes, TheDr. Wysocki, a child psychologist, draws from his wealth of experience dealing with children, teens and families affected by diabetes.

He conceptualizes the layers of diabetic management as a pyramid. Like the food pyramid, the first steps are the basic staples and other steps follow. Basic, factual knowledge serves as the basis. He discusses other common challenges faced by the family of a young person with diabetes. I particularly liked his sections on communication and on dealing with crises. He shows how certain common family conflicts might play themselves out in a family affected by diabetes.

He does a superb job of discussing the specific self-care steps a young person must master in order to move toward independent diabetes management. Some families and clinicians have set ideas about when a child should manage the diabetes independently. He takes a more moderate view. One must judge the developmental readiness of each individual child and adolescent.

In the section on dealing with the health care team, he talks about gradually allowing the child and then the adolescent to take a more central role in communicating with his care team.

This is a very informative book. It is a must-have for those families who have children with diabetes.

Condensing many of the possible things one could say about raising a child with diabetes into 10 key points makes it easy to apply the book to your life.

Fit Quickies: 5-Minute, Targeted Body-Shaping Workouts

Fit Quickies: 5-Minute, Targeted Body-Shaping WorkoutsI don't write review's often, but I had to jump in here and say I LOVED the Fit Quickies book! Lani is such an inspirational woman and her fun personality really shines through. I've learned I don't have to exercise like crazy lady to get the body I want. In fact, I'm working out my ab's while sitting here on the computer (7 seconds to a flat belly~Fit Quickie#1)! Plant based nutrition, the right mind set and proper exercise is all emphasized in this book. It's so easy to read and to follow, and I love all of her little helpful tips all the way through. I will NOT be loaning this one out. Sorry friends...It's my new bible...and It's a keeper!!!

I'm so glad to get my hands on Lani Muelrath's FIT QUICKIES! Throughout the book, it's clear that Lani is not in this for a quick fix, she's really on the journey with you, educating you about getting healthy for the long run. What I like about her approach is that it brings the whole picture together the importance of moving our bodies and "feeding" our souls. She introduces readers to healthful, plant-based eating tips along the way while she gives you her FIT QUICKIES that will give you the most bang for your buck! What sets this book really apart is that Lani shares of herself throughout, she lets you know that she's been there -right where you are, struggling to make sense out of exercise, weight control, and balanced eating. She's shares what worked and continues to work for her. I hope this book is as beneficial to others as it has been to me. Everyone in this country could benefit from Lani's wisdom, tips, and expertise.

Fit Quickies gets it right! Finally, a book with the trilogy of secrets as it's foundation to transform yourself and your health now and forever. NO fads or gimmicks here just the truth and expertise from a women who's been there and done that. Lani Muelrath did a phenomenal job showing just how easy it is to get fit and stay healthy by getting back to the basics. I thought working out meant having to spend hours in the gym to get any results. Boy, was I wrong! Lani lays out 14 simple, effective, and fast workouts that anyone can do in just a matter of minutes. From newbies to veterans of the exercise world, this book has a variety of challenges for everyone no matter where they're at in life. Each exercise is broken down for the reader so it can be performed in a safe, yet effective, manner. In addition, tips and modifications are provided with each Fit Quickie to meet each individuals needs based on their level of fitness. Fit Quickies fitness tips are perfect for anyone.

Lani also does an incredible job on her nutrition plan in this book as well. This is NOT a fad diet book, and Lani proves it having lost 50lbs herself by following her own advice. I found Lani's detailed, yet simple, outline of how to go about adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet very refreshing and exciting. Diets shouldn't be about sacrifice and starvation and this book lays it out in crystal clear format how easy it is to indulge in fresh, healthy foods without having to give up half your day's calories. This is eating style is surely one that can and will last for decades in my life as I pass the years reaping the rewards of a healthy body because of it.

The third secret of the trilogy is the mind makeover philosophy described in Fit Quickies. It's like icing on the cake! Lani beautifully describes practical and extremely useful techniques for others to get over the "mental hump" of making what many consider big changes in their life. This is always a challenge for me and others as change never comes easy in life. Breaking the old habits of eating unhealthy and being sedentary are not exactly overnight transformations for most. At least not for me. Something has to stick mentally to remain motivated and focused on the long term goal of achieving an ideal body weight and the health that comes with it. Lani's mindset mastery skills are perfect for accomplishing this.

Fit Quickies is definitely a must read book for anyone looking to get healthy AND stay healthy. You won't regret picking up your copy today. Have fun and here's to a brand new you thanks to Lani!

Fit Quickies is an amazing book! Its focus is not only exercise, but healthy living. It is easy to read, yet is packed with important information. Lani clearly illustrates how the body works, both physically and nutritionally, as this relates to strength and good health. She doesn't preach or seem too good to be true, someone we might find hard to live up to. She shows, with humor, that she understands the problems any of us have regulating our lifestyles to be healthy. She writes as a friend who has discovered answers for herself based on physiological facts and is offering them as examples to follow as much as the reader cares to. This is not a book with a rigid formula for success, but one that offers many suggestions to those who are looking for a way to incorporate exercise into their day and healthier ingredients into their menus. Most important is her emphasis on the integration of exercise, diet and mind-set as necessary to achieve a healthy balance in life. Fit Quickies offers much more than its title implies. It is a comprehensive guide to a healthier life!

The Body Sculpting Bible Express for Women: 21 Minutes a Day to Physical Perfection

The Body Sculpting Bible Express for Women: 21 Minutes a Day to Physical PerfectionThis book works well for me. I have also used his previous book Body Sculpting Bible for Women plus I have done weight training for many years. I'm not sure how this would be for a beginner as it is pretty fast paced, but if you're used to weight training and exercise in general and are looking to vary your routine, then this should work well for you.

I love this book. I'll be honest, what attracted me most was the fact you only need to do exercises for 21 minutes every day.

I enjoy activities like cycling and hill climbing, but exercises I do mostly to tone my body, not for fun.

I was looking for exercises that are easy to do, I can do preferably from the home, and don't take up too much time. I tried to combine exercises from various books I had, but as I did not really know if I made the right combinations I was soon discouraged.

The great thing about this book is that it has already done all that for me. The exercses are clearly explained and the photos are helpful too. But more, there is a whole exercise plan already made up.

You start with 21 mins of exercise every day for a period of 21 days. On the days when you do abs exercises, you only do 8 mins of exercises, the rest of the 21 mins you can fill with the cardio activity of your choice. This is perfect for someone like me who has had little training of abs.

After 21 days, you get a more flexible training plan and you don't have to exercise every day although it is recommended. There is a lot of variety in the exercises and if you follow the routine your whole body gets toned. I am thinking of getting another book in this series to throw even more exercises in the mix.

I gave this book five stars because the essential part of the book are the exercises and the exercise routines, and I love these very much.

However, the book as a whole is not perfect. The section of nutrition is too hard to follow and also rather fussy for someone who is just trying to get fit. This does not matter much to me because I got the book for the exercises and I follow my own nutrition rules (which is basically just trying to eat healthy)

Also, I think it is wrong to assume that this book is suitable for absolute beginners.

I recommend this book to everyone who has had a bit of exercise before and is looking for an effective way to tone the whole body in little time.

I wonder how much trial and effort is behind this book? From what I read in this well-illustrated, plainly-written guide I think this is not a bodily-improvement manual for the average woman and is more suited to someone who is already a fitness and health fanatic. I'm trying to incorporate a few exercises here into my morning yoga but I don't think I'd embrace the entire program. That's just me, though. I don't think anything presented here will harm anyone but it's also not going to be easy enough that anyone can pick up this book, read a few chapters and get going to where she'd see immediate benefit. I guess what I'm saying is the jury is still out on this since I've only had it six days and it's too severe and intimidating for just anyone to get major use from it. But, again, that's just my opinion and the important thing about any exercise or body enhancement project is to simply GET MOVING. If this helps with that then it's done what it's supposed to do. Best of luck on your road to betterment!

For my background, I have done weight training off and on for many years. While I agree with the others that this book is written for a women with some weight training experience, a person in reasonable shape who took it slow could also benefit from this book.

I used this book in my second trimester of my pregnancy to get back into shape after being sick for 3 months and was not able to exercise much. I got back into shape fast much to the help of using exercises from the book.

I love how it combined workouts and had many great pictures to illustrate to exercises. A must have for busy women who want to be in good shape but don't have a lot of time to spend in the gym.

The New Bottoming Book

The New Bottoming BookWho would think that being tied up and beaten could be the most pleasurable and empowering experience of one's life? Easton and Hardy's persuasive enthusiasm convinced me.

Concise chapters map out a sensible and intuitive path to bring a novice from fantasy to reality. The warm, personal style is unmistakably the hallmark of Greenery Press as is the focus on ethics and infinite possiblities. I was especially moved by the underlying message that rather than recklessly throwing yourself at someone's feet to be an informed and thoughtful submissive is a rare and valuable gift to a lucky dominant.

For anyone who has nervously surpressed their fantasies of being swept away by a Powerful Creature or used mercilessly by a Stern Master, this book simultaneously reassures, encourages and inspires.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the bottoming part of BDSM. It encourages, informs, and empowers bottoms. The authors make it plain that: No, you are not crazy. No, bottoming does not mean that you are powerless or weak. No, you are not alone. Yes, it is ok to want this!

This is not a book on how to play, per se, but rather a book on how to be a strong, powerful bottom who can enjoy exploring that part of themselves. I recommend reading this book along with a book that explains how to get started, such as SM 101, by Jay Wiseman.

Buy The New Bottoming Book Now

The original Bottoming book gave a lot of good information and advice to "bottoms" everywhere. This "new version" contains much of the original "advice," like "connecting" and negotiation, but also has new and much-needed information, such as a big section on meeting someone online via chat rooms, mailing lists and/or Internet newsgroups and how to convert from "cyber" to "real-time," and dealing with the fact that their "reality" may not match yours.

There are also chapters describing different "scenes" (and their 'rewards' and also tips on beginning and ending them)and role play, with short subsections about bondage and submission.

I've always enjoyed Ms Hardy's (formerly under the "Lady Green" pseudonym) and Easton's writing style: informative and at the same time informal enough that you sense they've been through virtually all of the same questions a bottom might ask of themselves or their partners. This truly is an excellent update to a classic SM instructional book.

This book reads like a reassuring letter from a close friend. Oh dearest reader, what you've been fantasizing about isn't as weird as you think. In fact, my love, I think it's wonderful and I'm so proud you're finally admitting it to yourself!

This book doesn't have much to offer someone who is already comfortable with the thought that his/her sexual desires involve submission.

The authors describe what goes on in the minds of bottoms (like to submit) and tops (like to control). They offer a lot of commonsensey stuff about negotiating your limits before a scene (the authors suggest using email, for instance) or negotiating, more carefully, when you're in-role together. The authors discuss some of the decisions you'll have to make as a bottom (like to what extent you'll want to maintain your role out of the bedroom) but the authors tend to throw out a cursory list of possible options, offering little depth and experience.

Even as someone with little experience, I was still disappointed with this read. It was too superficial, too "supportive" (I am not ashamed!), too obvious (i.e., communication is very important).

I think this book is best suited for people who've fantasized about bottoming but aren't sure whether it's what they really want or how they can get started doing it carefully. If you don't fit this description, and you've found a better book, please post is a comment here so that we can all read that one instead! Sorry, authors.

Every now and then, over the course of the year and a quarter that I've been exploring BDSM, I've stumbled across a perfect gem: an author who voices my own unspoken thoughts more clearly than I ever thought possible. Having spent over two decades ashamed of my own need and ultimately isolated from my sexuality, I cannot overstate the value of these little glimpses into other minds that think like mine. Polly Peachum's lovely essay "The Fragrant Dust" leaves me exhilarated and stunned with recognition. Miria Hunter and Yaldah Tovah have written some of the finest essays you'll ever read on the dynamics of consensual Master/slave relationships and the psychology of submission.

Perhaps it was a mistake to pick up "The New Bottoming Book" looking for more of the same. After all, such a perfect meeting of the minds is a rare thing. I've learned from and enjoyed plenty of articles that weren't entirely on my wavelength. But here was a whole book on the experience of bottoming, a book that professes on page 1 to be "a celebration of sensational submissives and marvelous masochists . . . of those who love to struggle and serve and scream and submit . . . of bottoms, submissives, captives, slaves, pets and all the beautiful recipients who ever peopled a kinky imagination." I hoped that here was a book that would help me understand my own sometimes mystifying needs and desires.

And there were some passages in the book that did exactly that. There's a list in Chapter 2 of emotions that a person might wish to experience in-scene, and along with such expected items as "helplessness," "lust," "humiliation," and "being nurtured," I was pleasantly astonished to discover "martyrdom," "pathos," "resentment," "sadness." Rarely, if ever, had I seen such emotions treated as potentially normal and desirable parts of the BDSM experience, and yet they figured often in my fantasies as part of an essentially cathartic psychodrama. Obviously, seeing as how Easton and Hardy saw fit to include them in the list, there are other people who have the same needs I do to venture into the realm of quiet, dark emotions.

Unfortunately, such moments of joyous connection were rare. Through most of the book I had the disconcerting feeling that I was waiting for something that was just out of reach, promised and even sampled, but never actually attained. I wanted to read about the psychology of submission, while the authors seemed more focused on the erotic thrills of play. Easton and Hardy seem to expect their readers to engage in scenes of limited duration, with a variety of partners, for the purpose of mutual erotic gratification. If you're involved in, or looking for, a relationship based on total power exchange, internal enslavement, and/or consensual nonconsent, you won't find much of use in these pages beyond what you'd get in any general-interest BDSM book (there are a handful of references to 24/7 D/s in these pages, but ultimately nothing of substance). If you enjoy playing at being a slave, you'll love this book. If you really want to BE a slave, the constant focus on YOUR rights, YOUR power, YOUR gratification, may be more than a little disconcerting.

I could easily have given this book four stars, in spite of its flaws. After all, it is presented, according to the title at least, as a guide to bottoming, not to submission or enslavement. There are far more play bottoms or part-timers out there than there are dedicated 24/7 lifestylers, and Easton and Hardy might well be commended for sticking to what they know rather than trying to tackle a topic with which neither has any particular experience (both authors are switches, and Hardy actually leans more to the "top" end of the spectrum). However, since one of the purposes of this book is to help novice bottoms accept themselves, I couldn't quite forgive a couple of brief passages that actually seem to disparage 24/7 relationships. On page 30, Easton and Hardy tell us that "[t]he desire you may have to be utterly bottom, to be operated by and operated on by another, to be very small, to be owned . . . is not reasonable." I found this very disturbing, as did several of my friends. After struggling for years with this strange and shameful desire to be truly and profoundly owned, the last thing we need is to be told by our fellow BDSM'ers that we're irrational and unreasonable. I read this sentence with only a twinge of uncertainty and a great deal of annoyance, but if I had picked up this book a year earlier, I likely would have come away from it in despair that I was disturbingly deviant even by the standards of folks who like to wear leather and hang out in dungeons.

If you are a play bottom, this might be the most useful book you'll ever read. If you're a slave at heart, however, although you may find a few valuable nuggets scattered among these pages, I definitely recommend that you begin your literary explorations elsewhere.
